baggy_trough··on Chartreuse, a case study in how scarcity and authenticity can drive desirability
It's definitely strong and has an intense herbal flavor. There are far viler spirits, though (try Suze). Personally I find it an enjoyable sipper!
baggy_trough··on 92 percent of US adults are not going to the doctor – too expensive
So essentially the stat claim is meaningless?
baggy_trough··on Why Paris Is Obsessed with a Niche Spirit Made by Monks
Bad title I guess.
baggy_trough··on Chartreuse, a case study in how scarcity and authenticity can drive desirability
How can they call Chartreuse 'niche'? It's one of the most popular cocktail ingredients in recent times.
baggy_trough··on 5th Heat Dome Expands Across Europe: 40°C+ Target Western and Central Europe
If you increase the amount of wood in existence, that is not carbon neutral, if you can maintain the increased level.
baggy_trough··on U of Michigan drops first-semester grades to ‘curb mental health crisis’
They pretend to learn, and we pretend to grade them.
baggy_trough··on Woman pulled over twice after Flock-linked software connected her to homicide
Because I'm just relaying my personal experience rather than writing a scholarly article?
baggy_trough··on Woman pulled over twice after Flock-linked software connected her to homicide
They certainly do in my area! Which is why I appreciate the cameras.
baggy_trough··on I made tinnitus my friend, then it disappeared [video]
I have the same problem. Some good mitigations are dark mode on the computer and using very dark, yellow/brown alpine sunglasses in bright sun.
baggy_trough··on Nashville uses eminent domain to block data center near zoo
What do you mean, evil? Is there something evil about a datacenter, or a strip mall? I struggle to think what that could be.
baggy_trough··on Americans are rallying against data centers. Surprisingly few are getting built
It's of course entirely believable that they would do this. Why wouldn't they?
baggy_trough··on Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is set today (2026-08-04)
Where do you see there that 25% of the U.S. population cheered for nuclear annihilation?
baggy_trough··on Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is set today (2026-08-04)
I do not disagree that there are some, but 25% is a massive overstatement, not merely "perhaps" high.
baggy_trough··on Ruby Central's Destructive Legacy
Whatever you call it, I'm against writing being a crime.
baggy_trough··on Ruby Central's Destructive Legacy
That is a deeply illiberal notion.
baggy_trough··on Ruby Central's Destructive Legacy
It is itself uncivilized for writing to be a hate crime.
baggy_trough··on Ruby Central's Destructive Legacy
There are a lot of bug fixes and changes happening. Even a very useful feature (cooldowns). See https://blog.rubygems.org

As a user, I have no complaints. Quite the opposite; I've been impressed by how well he is doing with it.

baggy_trough··on Ruby Central's Destructive Legacy
Meanwhile, bundler and rubygems are being maintained ably, if not better, by hsbt.
baggy_trough··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
Where is the supposed austerity?
baggy_trough··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
It is quite different indeed. There are many ways to use an LLM. Blunderbuss approaches like this are wrongheaded and ignorant.
baggy_trough··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
They are unenforceable and the motivation looks to be political in nature. I will simply ignore them, but it does reduce the credibility of Debian if the more AI-hostile variants of these pass.
baggy_trough··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
I simply don't accept that this type of project rule has any validity. It's like telling me what editor I can use, or that I can't use Google to search for programming tips, or that I can only use an electric car to drive to the office.
baggy_trough··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
The unhinged Background paragraph is disqualifying.
baggy_trough··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
Proposals like these are arrogant and obnoxious. You aren’t going to tell me what tools I can use.
baggy_trough··on Amid Increased Scrutiny, ICE Detention and Deportation Data Goes Dark
That is weak evidence that the administration is "focused on removing" memes, jokes, voting, public meetings, etc. The SAVE act can arguably be seen as increasing confidence in our elections by adopting standard practices from developed democracies worldwide.
baggy_trough··on Tell HN: Old Reddit Now Requires Login
I sadly lost the old reddit cookie on my iPad and now I can't get it back :(
baggy_trough··on Amid Increased Scrutiny, ICE Detention and Deportation Data Goes Dark
Which of those has the administration been focused on removing? I can't think of any.
baggy_trough··on New US homeownership measure puts people first
> Well guess who has to pay for that in a house that is rented? It's the renter!

On average, over time, in a free market, yes. But not necessarily in any specific case. The rent is a cap during the lease period, no matter what the landlord has to pay for maintenance.

baggy_trough··on 'We used acid to sabotage Microsoft hyperscale data centre construction'
Astonishing reply. It would also be in their interests for Nazis to eat three meals a day, tip their hat to old ladies in the street, and get a good night's rest.
baggy_trough··on 'We used acid to sabotage Microsoft hyperscale data centre construction'
It would have been in the interests of the Nazis to do so!
