baggy_trough··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
Stochastic parrot truthers in shambles.
baggy_trough··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
I won't be impressed until it identifies the proof he wrote in the margin. /s
baggy_trough··on 1Password Replied to My Disappointment
> he's advocated for removing anyone who isn't white from the UK.

Can you provide a quote that demonstrates this?

baggy_trough··on New York Times and The Athletic workers demand company scrap Kalshi deal
I appreciate the libertarian take on this, which works well for high IQ people and people with good self control. It doesn't work for many without those attributes. Unrestrained gambling can ruin lives and families.
baggy_trough··on EFF to Governor Newsom: Veto California's AB 1709
I'll thank you to keep your filthy hands off my kids' access.
baggy_trough··on Urban Congestion Pricing and the Response Times of Emergency Medical Services
If they do not want to cover their externalities, then it is in fact a very good solution.
baggy_trough··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
You still have to have some subjective number to decide how round something has to be, and it admits too many small objects.
baggy_trough··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
It's just a nice round number to use as a clear boundary.
baggy_trough··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
The correct planet criteria are, IMHO:

- not a star

- not orbiting a planet

- roundish

- greater than 1000km radius

That would restore Pluto to its rightful place and add Eris.

baggy_trough··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
Bring back Pluto!
baggy_trough··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
How can we use this coding tool amidst the general rising tide of fascism?? /s
baggy_trough··on Debian votes to allow "responsible use of generative AI"
I followed the discussion on debian-vote with interest. I'm glad that the hysterical objections lost, as they seemed quasi-religiously motivated.
baggy_trough··on Results for LLM Usage in Debian
Option 5 "Responsible Use of Generative AI" wins.
baggy_trough··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
Ethnic cleansing is when immigrants have to return to their home countries after the lawful suspension of a temporary program? That, frankly, is preposterous.
baggy_trough··on Trump signs order to rename Lake Ontario as 'Lake America'
This is really the dumbest shit imaginable and just makes Trump into more of a laughingstock than he was before, if possible.
baggy_trough··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
Then use one of the other options. It's not really that difficult.
baggy_trough··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
I think you can, if you install their app.
baggy_trough··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
Create an account then? Not sure why that's an issue.
baggy_trough··on AI Can Now Design Functional Viruses. Should We Worry?
See the phrase in parentheses.
baggy_trough··on A Citation to Asimov
Chimps do a kind of ethnic cleansing.
baggy_trough··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
What do personal blogs and tweets have to do with Omarchy? I guess DHH is just bad and tainted from a far left point of view. I regard that kind of thinking as totalitarian.
baggy_trough··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
No, the antisocial.
baggy_trough··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Another example of completely counterproductive interference in the free market, this time eliminating public toilets more or less entirely because you can't make money from them and the state is too incompetent to provide them.
baggy_trough··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
They were lost due to the tender ministrations of the bottom quintile.
baggy_trough··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
Yes, we are surprised to find out how foolish and counterproductive some legislation can be.
baggy_trough··on Kino: A high-performance Ractor web server for Ruby 4.0
Excited to see the recent momentum for Ractor in Rails as well as base Ruby!
baggy_trough··on AI Can Now Design Functional Viruses. Should We Worry?
That's really not the case at all. It is much more likely that some would be immune due to individual variation.
baggy_trough··on AI Can Now Design Functional Viruses. Should We Worry?
I suppose it's not guaranteed, but a counterexample has never been demonstrated (across species, AFAIK).
baggy_trough··on AI Can Now Design Functional Viruses. Should We Worry?
The good news is that bioweapons can’t kill everyone. A handful of percent will remain to repopulate the Earth.
baggy_trough··on 92 percent of US adults are not going to the doctor – too expensive
We should be concerned because somebody values the health care received less than a $30 copay?
