badrequest··on The past is not true
Reminds me of The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant: https://americanliterature.com/author/guy-de-maupassant/shor...
badrequest··on Ask HN: How are you improving your use of LLMs in production?
We've built effectively a proxy between us and ChatGPT so that we can observe what value users are getting out of it, and to take advantage of more advanced features later. A lot of this work has been speculative, like, we think/hope the information we're collecting will be of use to us, but nobody can articulate precisely how or has a plan for where to start.

For instance, we keep track of edits that users make to generated summaries so that we can later manage fine-tunings specific to users that we might pass along to the model, but I couldn't describe a plan for making use of them today.

badrequest··on Coroutines for Go
There are plenty of complicated things in Go, IMHO where it shines best is judiciously providing incredibly nice interfaces atop the complicated things.
badrequest··on Ash HN: How can I make my idle CPU time useful to others?
You could reduce your idle CPU time by turning off the computer when you're not using it.
badrequest··on Show HN: Workout.lol – a web app to easily create a workout routine
I quite like this, and hadn't considered the accessibility angle due to my privilege, thank you for sharing. :)
badrequest··on Podman Desktop 1.2 Released: Compose and Kubernetes Support
I've never understood using K8s in local dev over docker-compose, but I can absolutely see why someone would use it production.
badrequest··on Passkeys will come at a cost
All of that is for naught if it's too much of a pain in the ass for normal folks to use.
badrequest··on Darwin: A framework for evolving decentralized web apps
Bot-to-bot wash trades as evidence of legitimacy, classic web3.
badrequest··on Show HN: Workout.lol – a web app to easily create a workout routine
IMHO "body weight" should be preselected in the "equipment I have available" input. Not sure of a situation where I would be capable of working out, but not have access to my own body weight.
badrequest··on How the new Threads app is made
I discovered I didn't have to take anything you've written seriously when you used the term "coombait."
badrequest··on How the new Threads app is made
I think it's more that the HN crowd cannot stand to think, much less utter the phrase "you've gotta hand it to Mark Zuckerberg and crew." That's at least the feeling I have to get over when I praise Threads.
badrequest··on OpenWorm – A computational model of C. elegans worm
shhhhh, you're giving them ideas!
badrequest··on DigitalOcean acquires Paperspace (YC W15) for $111M in cash
ATI was acquired by AMD in 2006. :)
badrequest··on PlanetScale Scaler Pro
This is the only real thing stopping me from trying PlanetScale as well, glad to see in the comments that it's coming.
badrequest··on Why do Ivy League students self-sabotage?
Not the GP, but emphatically and obviously yes. There's the "reads a new book once per week" type of discipline that the average ivy leaguer tends to have, and there's the "wakes up at 4AM to go to the job they don't like despite how much their back hurts" discipline that the working class are obligated to develop.
badrequest··on Tell HN: Twitter switched temporarily to rate limited mode
Does doing mental gymnastics like this strengthen your brain?
badrequest··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
seems like a great reason not to use Kagi
badrequest··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
Sounds like you live in a bubble where nobody needs immigration sponsorship.
badrequest··on JavaScript macros in Bun
Is bun actively participating in these discussions, or are they just implementing whatever they wish and not participating in the chicken-and-egg process?
badrequest··on The Rise of the AI Engineer
> Do most "AI Engineers" actually understand what's going on in that function, beyond what they learned in the "LLM 101" videos and articles that have been flooding the web over the past year?

Do they need to, to be effective at their jobs?

badrequest··on US Supreme Court rules website designer can refuse to serve same-sex couples
Cool, now try to articulate how someone else's lifestyle infringes upon another's faith without revealing your own hurt feelings.
badrequest··on Modern language models refute Chomsky’s approach to language
This sentence made me despise my own literacy.
badrequest··on Executable Examples in Go
Dave I've been a heavy user of Jennifer for quite some time, thank you for making such an awesome library.
badrequest··on The Rust I wanted had no future
Steve, your comments are always a welcome surprise, I hope all is well with you and yours. :)
badrequest··on The Rust I wanted had no future
I'm interested in more on this. What can I do in C++ that I can't do in Rust?
badrequest··on I went down the rabbit hole of buying GitHub Stars, so you won't have to
I issued a PR to correct a typo in a popular ML library just two weeks ago, I am not a bot, this strategy seems flawed.
badrequest··on Tesla Confirms Automated Driving Systems Were Engaged During Fatal Crash
Those are bad, almost as bad as being killed by a computer program pushed into the mainstream prematurely by a coke-addled lunatic.
badrequest··on San Francisco: An Elitist Bubble Ignoring a Crime Epidemic?
This article doesn't make much sense to me. How are people who respond to your anecdote about being robbed with powerless indifference "ignoring" the problem? Are they supposed to suit up and go out on a caper to find your stolen item? They literally acknowledge that it happened to you and it's chalked up to ignorance, how?
badrequest··on Google Photorealistic 3D Tiles and Unreal Engine
I really appreciate this disclaimer. :)
badrequest··on Zig now has built-in HTTP server and client in std
Go doesn't provide standard library implementations of database drivers, only standard library interfaces for driver implementations to adhere to.
