IIRC Roblox was using Consul
badrequest··on 'Stupid,' 'shameful:' Tech workers on Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan's rant
> Tan, for his part, apologized over the weekend, noting that his post was a reference to a Tupac Shakur lyric

Ah, so if it's a quote, it doesn't matter, because even though you've decided when to use them, they're not "your words"

Thanks, going to publish press releases with Cannibal Corpse lyrics going forward.

badrequest··on Apple reports first quarter results
Even if they use in-house counsel? I would assume having salaried lawyers lowers the cost of registering that many patents at least a little, but I suppose it could also end up still being $1B.

"Why are people making new tools instead of using the antiquated ones I'm familiar with?"

Pages predates Microsoft's acquisition, and I can use Copilot on the repos I commit to any other source control system.
badrequest··on Google Announces Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2023 Results [pdf]
Those posts are an HN staple, this place wouldn't be the same without it. I think I've been using GCP longer than most people's projections of how long it would last.
badrequest··on New GitHub Copilot research finds 'downward pressure on code quality'
"This tech will only make people dumber over time" was also claimed about the Internet.
badrequest··on X Purges Prominent Journalists, Leftists with No Explanation
what a great platform for free speech when you can get banned for angering a billionaire
badrequest··on Ask HN: Any felons successfully found IT work post-release?
This basically doesn't happen, mostly an urban legend.

Protected from what, end-to-end encryption?
badrequest··on Biscuit authorization
I remember seeing a talk[1] at Gophercon a while back on how nightmarish macaroons were to implement.

badrequest··on Llamafile lets you distribute and run LLMs with a single file
`docker system prune --force --all --volumes` and they're gone.
badrequest··on Andreessen Horowitz Invests in Civitai, Which Profits from Nonconsensual AI Porn
"What if I had significantly increased barriers to doing this very inappropriate and deeply weird thing?"
badrequest··on Andreessen Horowitz Invests in Civitai, Which Profits from Nonconsensual AI Porn
It should, obviously, be necessary to do this.
badrequest··on Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Is it a race between those three when the public can only use two of them?
badrequest··on I think GCP is better than AWS (2020)
I've been watching folks here on HN speculate that Google will kill GCP "any minute now" for at least the last 4 years, so ya'll can keep holding your breath, I will be having fun deploying things for 1/10th the price of AWS.
badrequest··on I think GCP is better than AWS (2020)
If it doesn't scale down to zero, then it doesn't compete with Cloud Run.
badrequest··on Was Rust Worth It?
Recently tried writing some async Rust to compare the error handling when nested async calls are made to how errors are handled in Go, and it seemed like the trivial example I was trying to write up simply couldn't be done without involving Tokio. That barrier simply doesn't exist in Go, or C#, or Typescript.

For instance, you apparently cannot `await` in the main function without a decorator you import from, you guessed it: Tokio.

badrequest··on Banging errors in Go
It also prevents adding relevant context to the errors, meaning you get all the joy of hunting through call stacks to figure out what went wrong in a sufficiently complex program.
badrequest··on Ask HN: Where to Host a FastAPI App
Coincidences can happen. :)
badrequest··on Better HTTP server routing in Go 1.22
I genuinely have no idea what you're referring to by "stringly-typing all over stdlib". I've written Go every day for the better part of a decade and used the standard library the whole time. What standard library functions require passing in the string of a type?
badrequest··on Better HTTP server routing in Go 1.22
This pattern already works and would work with this change, you'd just need to define `/foo/bar` first.
badrequest··on Better HTTP server routing in Go 1.22
> Only if you don't know C# or asp.net (or bootstrap). In which case: why would you be working for an organization which does?

You've never taken a job working in a language you don't know yet? Anecdotally this is a common thing. In fact, my most recent job hired me to write C# with nothing but prior Go/Python experience.

> This kind of structured approach has fallen out of favor because it's become more popular to hire javascript and react developers straight out of boot camp who have only been taught how to code one or two things.

This comes across to me as needlessly bitter to folks with less experience than you.

badrequest··on Better HTTP server routing in Go 1.22
It adheres to the Go 1 compatibility promise.
badrequest··on Better HTTP server routing in Go 1.22
Go is type safe.
badrequest··on Better HTTP server routing in Go 1.22
What common use-cases does it not support?
badrequest··on ChromeOS is Linux with Google’s desktop environment
The matte-black laptop they shipped out to beta testers for ChromeOS is still the best laptop I've ever owned. Maybe not processing speed-wise, but the size and everything else was perfection.
badrequest··on Rust vs Go: A Hands-On Comparison
If those calls can cause errors, then yes, it's necessary to handle them. Maybe you're content to have a contextless stack trace printed whenever things fail, but I like a little order.
badrequest··on Rust vs Go: A Hands-On Comparison
It's absolutely idiomatic to use panic in main. In fact, that's basically the only place it's allowed in "Go programming standards."
badrequest··on $8B Sam Bankman-Fried criminal trial starts today
He bamboozled as much money from rich people as he did from poors, they're throwing the book at him.
