badpenny··on Microsoft now demands to know why you won't use Edge when you download Chrome
> If users don't speak app soon Windows will turn into an ad-infested user abusefest.

It already has.

badpenny··on Game Development Post-Unity
AFAIK Casey Muratori isn't working on Jai, that's (entirely?) Jonathan Blow.
badpenny··on John Carmack on shorter work weeks (2016)
Didn't that book mention how, at the time, he used to live on pizza and cola?
badpenny··on Ask HN: Has anyone here turned around their life in their 40s?
I did it in my mid-to-late 30s. At that point, I had very little going for me. Now, I'm married, have a happy kid, have a decent job, and have just bought a house.

It can definitely be done; you just need to be patient, love yourself, and to want it enough to put in the work.

badpenny··on Lessons learned from 15 years of SumatraPDF, an open source Windows app
VS Code is neither fast nor efficient. I'm not hating on it as I like it more than most Electron apps, but I use it on a laptop with a Core 2 Duo P8600 CPU (among other things) and it's pretty sluggish.
badpenny··on Open Insulin Foundation
Did they mention in what way it's not as good?
badpenny··on Google sunsets the APK format for new Android apps
Not having the APK available anywhere has an even more drastic impact.
badpenny··on The solution of the Zodiac killer’s 340-character cipher
I think that was, at least partly, his intent. He even stated in the letter accompanying his first cipher that it would contain his identity, then when it was deciphered it said "I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY NAME BECAUSE YOU WILL TRY TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP MY COLLECTING OF SLAV(E)S FOR MY AFTER LIFE".
badpenny··on A distributed key value store in under 1000 lines
Also that the code is indecipherable because one of the ways they got the code size down is by playing code golf.

I wouldn't call it jaded, I'd call it experienced.

badpenny··on The Clean Network – United States Department of State
The Clean Network being the same network that Edward Snowden spoke out about?
badpenny··on KeePassXC 2.6.0 Released
Why does CPU usage matter? Just buy a faster CPU. Why does memory usage matter? Just buy more memory. Why does network bandwidth usage matter? Just get a faster Internet connection. Why does stability matter? If it crashes, just restart it.

badpenny··on Kotlin becomes second most popular language on the JVM
*unreliable ;-)
badpenny··on Video Game Preservation – An archive of commercial video game source code
Good idea. I should probably knock up some kind of website for that kind of thing.
badpenny··on Video Game Preservation – An archive of commercial video game source code
That's me. Thanks for the credit. I've had some help with people pointing me to some things that I don't already have archived so if anybody's aware of anything that I'm not, please tell.
badpenny··on Google Takes Down Artstation Android App for Explicit Content
Every third-party Reddit and Facebook app I've tried has seemed as if it was throttled or blocked.
badpenny··on OCaml for the Masses (2011)
Do you mean "encourages immutability as a default"?
badpenny··on Credit card thieves using free-to-play apps to launder their ill-gotten gains
I thought it was don't point it at anything you don't want dead i.e always assume there's a round in the chamber.
badpenny··on Vaporwave’s Mini-Boom of Floppy Disk Releases
That's Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1.
badpenny··on Linus Torvalds on aliasing
Kind of sad that a person as intelligent as him can get to his age and still not realise that talking to people that way is at best highly ineffective and at worst will make them actively hostile towards you. That's not to mention rude and mean-spirited.
badpenny··on Why Go is skyrocketing in popularity
Java saves me time and tends to make more correct programs, compared to C.
badpenny··on Iodine: A full superset of Java with enhancements
I don't know what it is about programmers that we seem to love reinventing the wheel.
badpenny··on Text Editor Performance Comparison (2016)
I've always had problems with IntelliJ IDEA feeling extremely slow and have never been able to figure out why. The mouse cursor even skips when it's doing anything intensive. This is on a machine with 4 cores @ 3.2GHz and 16GB of RAM. VSCode seems much faster.
badpenny··on Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?
You seem to be criticising them for doing the exact same thing that you ended up doing.
badpenny··on Why I Choose Delphi
Hell, just optimising would be a start.
badpenny··on Ask HN: How do you find clients when you have no network and can only do remote?
I think they probably mean the social kind.
badpenny··on Ask HN: How do you find clients when you have no network and can only do remote?
If you don't mind me asking, what do you do now? Are you still freelancing?
badpenny··on Firefox marketshare revisited
Now and again I'll try switching to Firefox but it's just incredibly sluggish compared to Chrome so I end up switching back.
badpenny··on Ask HN: What is your password management solution?
LastPass is the only commercial password manager I recommend. I really think you should avoid 1Password.

I'm not going to go into details, sorry.

badpenny··on Michael K. Williams Is More Than Omar from ‘The Wire’
> so hammy and unrealistic

That's what I liked about it.
