I do agree that the number of tools and solutions out there for creating web applications is overwhelming at times. I just don't know if this a valid approach, especially when people keep churning out tech to replace old tech instead of improving on said old tech.
2. I understand that sublime is closed source and respect that, but would sublime ever release or talk about how they develop their GUI? What libraries and techniques they use?
1. Code Browsing is an initial, one time cost when learning the code base. After you learn the code base, I've needed this ability much less.
2. Adding plugins like NERDTree and fzf/ripgrep have helped make code browsing much easier in Vim. The downside to this is that if you're new to Vim, you need to learn how to use these plugins on top of learning how to Vim. So it's just more to learn. But you can also think of this as another one time cost in general.
Also learn how to ask questions, you know your project inside and out, try to go to someones position of not knowing anything. I always find stuff that seems so simple at first but then later realize that most people wouldn't know it or connect the dots because they don't know the project.
Here are some resources I've looked at.
