azmodeus··on Ask HN: Why do companies not list your weaknesses in rejection emails?
As an employer you are shooting yourself in the foot with a poor job description. Describing it as a complicated puzzle is not an amazing sign.
azmodeus··on African kings on medieval and Renaissance maps
In Hungary there's no history of such slavery. Peasants liberties were limited but it was not slavery. I feel your perspective is very Anglo American. There are European countries with very little or no culture of slavery.
azmodeus··on Cold Showers
I think you underestimate European taxes as an employer. In general it costs 2x to employ people in my experience. Taxes and social security contributions are massive
azmodeus··on The bait-and-switch hidden in today’s cookie announcement
You sound knowledge about using logfiles for analytics.Could you recommenda good stack to do this?

I am assuming you need to do client side tracking for static pages though or you need to self host your static page.

azmodeus··on Any self made millionaires here? Was it worth it?
Current Nuremberg resident here nice to see Nuremberg on HN :)

Could you share a bit more about your businesses? Would love to learn more

azmodeus··on Why is American administrative capacity in decline?
At the point of the UK joining Italy had a higher GDP per capita than the UK.
azmodeus··on Why is American administrative capacity in decline?
Britain was wealthy when it left. When it joined the EU it was the poorest member joining.
azmodeus··on My startup is broken
Could you share what parts of corporate planning would work well in a start-up environment?

I find year long plans in a start-up environment difficult mainly as the plan needs to adapt more than in a corporate environment.

azmodeus··on The Gov.uk Design System is now live
Would love to see how some prototypes look with it if you want to share any :)
azmodeus··on Tell HN: I let my 6-year-old daughter design my website
The website looks great. Did she do the drawings with an e-ink pen or do you have a process to make these images from a paper drawing?
azmodeus··on Nvidia prepares to abandon $40B Arm bid
With all due respect to the USA, never been a requirement for United States state-sponsored intellectual property theft either.
azmodeus··on Nearly two-thirds of Gen Z think they’ll become crypto millionaires
Don't write off gen z, write off their parents and educators who haven't shown them another way.

We have created a harsh economic climate, surely we are more responsible than the next generation.

Tech has built a brand of meteoric magic, it's not surprising snake oil can be sold in such an environment.

azmodeus··on Google's infamous internal 2010 “I just want to serve 5TB” video now public
The question is also what's the cost of troubleshooting the lambda service going down 3 times. 10x more expensive and reliable can be a good trade.
azmodeus··on AMA: I make $100K+ ARR from my microstartups
Publicly answering people's questions and DMing them pitching your solution can help if you do it tastefully many places don't mind you saying I am working on this here's my solution
azmodeus··on American parents are sending their kids to 'Russian math' (2017)
I disagree with algebra being too difficult for a 7 year old. You can learn geometric algebra at 7 with plastic blocks. It's a common way to teach math in Eastern Europe to young children afaik.

Excellent maths teachers can really bring a lot to the table with geometrical approach throughout the years.

azmodeus··on Yet another background music for developer, if you missed working at cafe
Hard of hearing
azmodeus··on Is Google’s AI research about to implode?
I think it is important to shift AI ethics to become more of an investment but that requires more tooling to evaluate AI ethics problems and the business risks.
azmodeus··on Uber discovered they’d been defrauded out of 2/3 of their ad spend
academia != education

The education system incentives students to be teachable to conserve teacher resources.

Transparent calculations are more important to help folks with low numerical skills.

I think this is actually a really hard challenge to communicate simple calculations easily to a wide audience.

azmodeus··on Experiments on a $50 DIY air purifier that takes 30s to assemble
Would be happy to pay USD 80 for it as well
azmodeus··on Experiments on a $50 DIY air purifier that takes 30s to assemble
It would be nice if preassembled kits could be purchased from you. I would be happy to pay USD 40 for a good preassembled kit.
azmodeus··on AWS is not offering Austria's TLD .at for registration

My impression is housing is good for tenants in Berlin. What isn't so good about it?
azmodeus··on Twitter, Reddit support challenge of visa applicant social media requirement
I think comparing the US to China is misleading. Compared to the US in the past I can't tell if it's more totalitarian. Looking from the outside it looks more totalitarian.

Freedom of speech and privacy have been eroding in the US. I don't know if police brutality is constant at this level though I think the large amount of military grade equipment the police have has increased.

From my perspective it seems like a good idea for the US to reflect on where it is going compared to its past.

azmodeus··on Ask HN: When do you think we will be able to regenerate teeth?
I found your link was broken for me here is an alternative that worked for me https://europepmc.org/article/pmc/pmc4252862
azmodeus··on Why are Soviet math textbooks so hardcore in comparison to US textbooks? (2017)
Rather than straw man the Prussian system you could iron man it.

Corporal punishment was common when the Prussian system was founded (1800s) across the world.

The system provided free education for the lowest rungs of society for the first time in Europe, that's a mighty achievement!

Pedagogically it is a hierarchical system with a strong focus on authority. It doesn't encourage questioning authority outside of the sciences which is a feature for the authoritarian societies deploying this educational model.

azmodeus··on The Webpage, an online RSS reader and news aggregator, styled like a newspaper
Feels great not having the usual information overload that websites have. Lovely project well done!
azmodeus··on How H-E-B planned for the pandemic
Comparing a large multicultural richer country does seem weird.

Indeed a tiny 126 million soul tiny country can not be compared with a country of 330 million souls. Also the USA having 1.5x the GDP / Capita does make Japan the richer country.

These countries unlike the USA have more economically and socially interventionist governments. I do wonder if the culture of Germany is closer to Japan or USA. To tackle a pandemic do you need more leadership or culture?

I mean beyond national security where is USA leadership?

azmodeus··on Global oil use heads for steepest annual contraction
Even slow trains are a good means of transport. I much prefer a train to buses and cars.

I think high speed rail could be potentially a game changer for the job market. In the UK if you could easily commute in from Birmingham or Newcastle then London salaries would be more accessible outside London.

azmodeus··on Ask HN: Is UK government insane or genius?
Singapore and HK are ultraconnected city states. If they can do it larger sparser countries should be able to do it.

Both of them have more than 5 million people so they aren't tiny either.

azmodeus··on What are your options for cognitive enhancement?
Do you follow intermittent fasting or do you fast for longer times? I find if I fast for a longer period my focus decreases.
