azmenak··on Show HN: Download Spotify Playlist
You can create a username and password for "devices" under Account > Edit Profile, which works the same way an email/password login would.

Spotify will create a numbered user ID and send you an email with a verification link to create a password.

azmenak··on Thepiratebay.se is back online
I find it interesting that there doesn't seem to be any more banner ads, or any tracking libraries. I wonder if TPB will continue like this.
azmenak··on Isomorphic JavaScript is not the Answer
I've been using isomorphic rendering with ReactJS for some websites that are primarily static (static enough for me to build .html files using React as kind of template-language which get rendered on deploy) and I've found that it's been the best in terms of performance and SEO benefit.

I'm enjoying being able to write my react render function once and everything just working.

azmenak··on Advancing the realtime web
Article also points out that you can't get a "realtime incremental feed", but the example they provide is quite easy and similar in Firebase by using orderBy() and limit() to return an updating query.

As someone who has built lots of apps using Firebase, I can appreciate the first point about limited querying capabilities; this has been my number 1 painpoint from Firebase. I'd imagine the second point can be somewhat validated by changes() allowing for much more complex queries than are currently possible with sync services.

azmenak··on WhatsApp doesn't understand the web
This reminds me of how weChat/weixing implements their web client, minus the ridiculousness of chrome only `requestFileSystem()`.

Scan a QR code from the client on your phone, and re-authentiate every time the connection is interrupted.

If you don't use a supported platform, like a Blackberry, you pretty much have no way of communicating with anyone in China, since you can't login to the web client.

azmenak··on Gmail blocked in China
I've been living in China for over 4 months now, using a simple VPN I setup on Digital Ocean has been the most stable (tunnel stays open for as long as the internet connection is available)

Tor is semi-blocked here, you won't be able to establish a connection to the network without a tunnel.
