So this is why my papers are cited so little!

azhenley··on Principled Procedural Parsing (2019) [pdf]
Takes a bit before there is any mention of the thesis's contributions. Jump to section 1.3 on page 10 for a list of goals, then section 1.4 on page 13 for the approach to achieve them.

azhenley··on Why are modern 50mm lenses so damned complicated?
Rokinon and Samyang are the same company. For some of their lenses, you can actually buy the same lens with either branding.

azhenley··on Why are modern 50mm lenses so damned complicated?
Definitely. I recommend grabbing a Helios-44 58mm off eBay and a cheap adapter from Amazon.

Great camera. Don't discount the 3rd party E-mount lens makers, such as Samyang.

If you are unsure what to get next, I suggest looking at this list of every E-mount full-frame lens:

azhenley··on Why are modern 50mm lenses so damned complicated?
I have a collection of 50mm lenses (from the 1950s to 2018). Most of my favorite shots are actually taken with the older, imperfect ones. Some people call these "character lenses", which have flaws that can actually be quite appealing. Most of them are sharp enough and the flaws disappear if stopped down a bit.

Examples of flaws include swirly bokeh in the background, a glow around high-contrast edges, and flares from lights.

azhenley··on Show HN: Lovetris – Tetris which always gives you the best piece
I'd never heard of this either. It really is interesting!

I can't other articles on it other than that readme. Does anyone else know where I can learn more about it? Someone needs to make a Wikipedia page!

azhenley··on Show HN: Minimal 3D creative coding tool – control 8×8×8 dots with JavaScript
Inspired by tixy.land, I recently made a simple game engine with 16x16 animated “pixels”. We used it as an in-class activity during the last week of the semester.

azhenley··on Examples of RISC-V Assembly Programs
They’re for teaching sophomores, so I don’t think optimizations would help.
azhenley··on Ask HN: Have You Made a Game?
Yes! They were Flash games that can still be found around the web with a bit of effort.

I wrote a little bit about what I learned from them though: The 8 lessons I learned from releasing 8 video games (https://web.eecs.utk.edu/~azh/blog/8lessons8games.html)

azhenley··on Investigating why McDonald's ice cream machines are often broken [video]
I used mcbroken three times. Each time it said the machine was working but the workers told me otherwise. The site continued saying it was working until they closed. :(
azhenley··on Has UML died without anyone noticing?
I think it was made big by Rational and some bigger name consultants.
azhenley··on Has UML died without anyone noticing?
That’s how I think of it too. It’s more like pseudo code for throwaway diagrams, not living documentation.
azhenley··on Tesla admits its Full Self-Driving technology is a Level 2 system
Ok, I’ll rephrase: I can’t use any of those self-driving competitors, so it doesn’t seem to matter.
azhenley··on Tesla admits its Full Self-Driving technology is a Level 2 system
But I can't buy a car from any of those self-driving competitors, so it doesn't seem to matter.
azhenley··on Get better at Googling
I agree! In fact, I recently wrote a blog post titled, "Can you make a basic web app without Googling? I can't". It got a bunch of discussion here too.
