ayoisaiah··on Ask HN: What linux desktop tools/apps boosted your productivity?
Off the top of my head, I'd suggest the following:

- Flameshot for screenshots and annotation [1] - Albert Launcher [2] - Jumpapp for quickly launching or switching between windows [3]

They are all desktop agnostic.

ayoisaiah··on Neither PWA nor AMP are needed to make a website load fast
AMP on the desktop? Don't think I've seen that before. I've only seen AMP links on mobile and I don't think it's returned in desktop search results
ayoisaiah··on Google Container for Firefox – Prevent Google from tracking you around the web
This is cool but I don't think I will be using it. I already use Searchonymous[1] to prevent Google from tracking my web searches while also browsing YouTube in a separate container where I'm not signed in.

I really on Google's sign-in mechanism for many websites and this would probably interfere with that.

ayoisaiah··on I still miss my headphone jack, and I want it back
The problem is many Android manufacturers are also following suit for no apparent reason.
ayoisaiah··on I still miss my headphone jack, and I want it back
> It's ridiculous to suggest that everything apple does is just a cheap cash grab.

What's so ridiculous about it? Have you not seen the rate at which Apple are increasing the prices across all their products?

And petty practices like not including the lightening to 3.5mm adapter or fast charger on a $1000+ phone e.t.c.

ayoisaiah··on I still miss my headphone jack, and I want it back
I don't think it's wrong. How has removing the headphone jack made anyone's life better? I can't think of one way.

It's not as if you couldn't use wireless headphones before the headphone jack was removed. Now that the jack is removed, you're forced to use a USB-C dongle (which has its disadvantages) or purchase expensive Bluetooth headphones if you want a decent enough quality / battery life.

ayoisaiah··on Ditching the MacBook Pro for a MacBook Air
I agree. I use an XPS 13 9360, and everything works well with Ubuntu 18.04. There are a few quirks here and there with the way some applications scale on the QHD+ screen (which looks amazing by the way), but other than that, not much to complain about.

Battery life is 5-7 hours depending on what you're doing which I think is fair enough.

ayoisaiah··on Elementary OS – Fast, open, privacy-respecting replacement for Windows and macOS
How is resizing windows on Linux far away from Mac or Windows? I think you're exaggerating
ayoisaiah··on Elementary OS – Fast, open, privacy-respecting replacement for Windows and macOS
I don't have a Mac, but I've used one for non-trivial amounts of time. I don't think it's significantly prettier than my Ubuntu + Gnome setup, but I'd agree there's a more consistent feel in the UI.
ayoisaiah··on Elementary OS – Fast, open, privacy-respecting replacement for Windows and macOS
It does everytime on my XPS 13

ayoisaiah··on Medium is a poor choice for blogging
Medium comments are up there with the worst comment implementation I've ever seen
ayoisaiah··on iPad Pro
Less than 14mb is low? I don't see why that page should be more than 1mb or just around that
ayoisaiah··on Vivaldi 2.0 – includes sync, resizable tab tiling, floating web panels and more
You're not wrong, but what I meant is that they were conflicts, and the browser's shortcuts took precedence. Like Ctrl+b to bold text and others. Many threads were open on this problem on the Vivaldi forum. I was not used to this with Chrome and Firefox, so it surprised me.
ayoisaiah··on Vivaldi 2.0 – includes sync, resizable tab tiling, floating web panels and more
Last time I tried Vivaldi (over a year ago), the browser shortcuts were taking precedence over website shortcuts. I noticed this in Google Sheets and others. I hope that's fixed now

Firefox is likely to remain my default browser, but there's a lot to like about Vivaldi.

ayoisaiah··on Image optimization decreased website's page weight by 62%
Another GitHub bot[0] was shared earlier. This one looks similar. Thanks for sharing!

That's a nice one, thanks for sharing! Makes sense for those who already use Webpack
ayoisaiah··on Image optimization decreased website's page weight by 62%
Author here. Thanks for the feedback. I agree that what I've done is nothing revolutionary, but the vast majority of websites out there don't have these sort of thing. That's one of the reasons why the average page weight continues to grow every year [0].

Moreover, this solution is good enough for people with small blogs just like mine. Anyone who needs something more involved can use your service or other alternatives.

As for responsive images, I implemented that on my site too although I didn't mention it in the article. I plan to write a follow up article on that topic soon.

On a side note, you might want to bump up the font size of the navigation links on your site. They're too faint.

ayoisaiah··on Typora – A cross platform markdown editor
There's an AppImage available which you can use to install it on any Linux Platform. I'm not sure how updates work for that though
