ayoisaiah··on Go Developer Survey 2019 Results
Suprised to see Vim usage decreasing every year. Presumably most are defecting to Goland
ayoisaiah··on Private client-side-only PWAs are hard, but now Apple made them impossible
It makes it a lot harder for solo developers or small companies to develop apps that work on all platforms
ayoisaiah··on Using Firefox for a faster, calmer and distraction-free internet
My experience with Firefox in the last few months have not been good. I encounter so much input lag when typing in the address bar, usually after opening a few tabs. In general, the UI is not responsive as I'd like so I'm using Brave right now where those issues are non-existent
ayoisaiah··on The iPhone 11 Camera, Part 1: A Completely New Camera
They do add value. You cannot, for example, shoot RAW or manually control the camera with the built-in app.

Didn't the Samsung galaxy S4 have this?
ayoisaiah··on Germans Grow Frustrated with Their Slow-Poke Internet
Let me tell you about slow internet.

In Ilorin, Nigeria, I can get 500kbps on good days. Most times, the speeds hover around 100kbps. I can hardly watch YouTube at anything more than 360p. Even that resolution buffers too much sometimes.

ayoisaiah··on Foliate – A simple and modern GTK eBook viewer
Oh alright, I didn't realise that
ayoisaiah··on Foliate – A simple and modern GTK eBook viewer
This scheme of naming binaries is popular amongst Elementary os apps. Maybe that's were the Dev took the idea from.

I don't mind it, and if it bothers you, you can easily alias it to something else

ayoisaiah··on Foliate – A simple and modern GTK eBook viewer
Bookworm definitely has a two-page view. I'm using it on Elementary OS
ayoisaiah··on How to Remove Bixby from Samsung Phones
I find it hard to believe that a single button would cause you to jump ship. Especially since you claimed to love the Samsung flagships you had. Perhaps there were other frustrations the Huawei solved for you?
ayoisaiah··on How to Remove Bixby from Samsung Phones
I'm pretty sure you can sync your contacts to a Samsung account pretty much the same way as you do with Google? I don't use it, but I see the option there on my S10+.
ayoisaiah··on How to Remove Bixby from Samsung Phones
I'm curious about the problems did you encounter when on Samsung devices? Personally, I've thoroughly enjoyed the two Samsung phones I've owned so far: S7 Edge and S10+.

Briefly considered the OnePlus 7 Pro before purchasing my S10+, but the below par camera, lack of a headphone jack and other compromises was a deal breaker for me. They seemed to have improved the Camera performance since launch though.

ayoisaiah··on How to Remove Bixby from Samsung Phones
I tried using Bixby when I first got my S10+, but it wasn't a good experience. So I've largely ignored it and remapped the button to open the camera instead.

That being said, I still use Bixby routines to automate a bunch of stuff on my phone.

ayoisaiah··on How to Remove Bixby from Samsung Phones
You got that right. You can use it to disable any pre-installed app
ayoisaiah··on Freeing My Phone from Google
Can confirm that NewPipe has this feature
ayoisaiah··on What's new in Ubuntu 19.04
I no longer bother with Alt-Tab, I just use jumpapp[1] to switch between windows quickly.

ayoisaiah··on What's new in Ubuntu 19.04
I upgraded on a 9360 this afternoon, and I haven't noticed any problems thus far.

I would also like to mention Surfing Keys which is what I use in Chrome and Firefox: https://github.com/brookhong/Surfingkeys
ayoisaiah··on Tasks That Can Be Done with Pure HTML and CSS
Such terrible UX on that site. I had to switch to reader mode on Firefox before I could read comfortably
ayoisaiah··on Show HN: Make your site’s pages instant in one minute
Wow this looks really great. Just tried it on my website[0], and page loads are pretty much instantaneous. However, it doesn't seem to work in Firefox 67 (Nightly). Does that mean it only works in Chrome?

ayoisaiah··on Apple restores Google’s internal iOS apps after certificate misuse punishment
Most people surely would be affected by this. Especially with Facebook apps as WhatsApp and Instagram usage is huge in many places.

The appeal of iPhone will go down significantly.

ayoisaiah··on New Dell XPS 13 developer edition now available
My XPS 13 9360 QHD has shown no signs of letting up since I purchased it in the middle of last year. It's been a fantastic machine for me.
ayoisaiah··on Programming Fonts – Test Drive
I've been using IBM Plex Mono¹ for the last couple of weeks. Switched from Source Code Pro, and I love it!

ayoisaiah··on Samsung Phone Users Perturbed to Find They Can't Delete Facebook
I don't think all Samsung apps are "crappy". I quite enjoy using some of them like Samsung Health and Secure Folder. What needs to end is preloading so many duplicate apps and then preventing the user from removing them easily.

Personally, I can live with this situation since I can always remove what I don't like with adb, and I quite enjoy a lot of the features and changes that Samsung added on top of stock Android.

ayoisaiah··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of your creative thoughts?
I need good support for images and that's under the paywall
ayoisaiah··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of your creative thoughts?
I use Notion.so. I have a page where I put all my thoughts no matter what they may be. Then I review it weekly to see what can be tackled next.

Unfortunately, Notion does not have a browser extension yet so you always have to open the website or app to jot down something, but I hope this will come soon.

If you want to add notes without opening an app, you can try Google Keep. It has a Chrome extension that works really well.

ayoisaiah··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of your creative thoughts?
It's fine but too expensive. I moved over to Notion.so recently
ayoisaiah··on Start with a Website, Not a Mobile App
Sub $100 phones rule the streets here in Nigeria. In those cases storage is very precious and limited.
ayoisaiah··on Start with a Website, Not a Mobile App
I think it's more of an added benefit to building a website first. Especially when trying to validate new ideas which is where the better tracking / UX analysis comes into play.
