axitanull··on Kenya is using the earth's heat to power the country
I'm not educated enough to speculate, but how is this different from the scale of global warming? As in, the earth is big, but we still manage to change our environment in such a short timescale. Will this another underestimation of our ability to screw ourselves?
axitanull··on You’re an Adult. Your Brain, Not So Much
What if they only vote in their best interest, putting burden on their young?
axitanull··on Weebly hacked, 43M credentials stolen
Simple really, joke that is not adding anything to the discussion is not appreciated here.
axitanull··on Why did Borland fail?
I think that would not happen, with all the difference and mess in implementation under multiple browsers (even with webkit based Safari and Chrome), and file watcher+auto reload is less of a headache.
axitanull··on How Much do you Need to Earn to Afford a Modest Apartment in Your State?
Worst yet, this is happening worldwide as investors realizes this is a not heavily regulated investment methods.

- Single-parent families, with a parent living on minimum wage.

- Students.

- People are expected to leave their parents house at age 18. But without a proper trade skills, they can only earn minimum wage.

- etc.

But we may be missing the point here. Since this article doesn't seem to take into the consideration of other living expenses, even if we're talking about a family with two parents and kid instead of a single person: the family may still struggle to pay the rent plus bills.

On the other hand, according to [Numbeo survey](http://www.numbeo.com/property-investment/gmaps_rankings.jsp) , US has one of the lowest income to property pricing ratio worldwide. Whereas in the third world and developing countries, people are also struggling to afford a place to live.

But if you read further into the linked article (http://nlihc.org/oor), it talks about "two bedroom unit".

The original title of this submission "In No State Can A Minimum Wage Worker Afford A One Bedroom Apartment" is linked to an entire different link (http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-05-22/no-state-can-minimu...).

Edit: since the title of submission has been changed.

axitanull··on Why Ken Jennings’s ‘Jeopardy’ Streak Is Nearly Impossible to Break
I believe that is because many people don't want comment section in Hacker News turn into the one in Reddit, which consist of mostly jokes, pop culture references...things that doesn't really contribute to the discussion.
axitanull··on The User Is Drunk
Looks like the prize has gone up to $75.
axitanull··on Winamp shutting down on December 20th, 2013
You can also use Wine + Foobar2000 (+plugins). It's running pretty smooth on my Mac (albeit rather ugly in terms of appearance)
axitanull··on What is it like to be a mathematician?
When I did Project Euler, I couldn't come up with elegant solution that was derived from high enough abstraction using math, leaving me using brute force method that was not really efficient.

I was fascinated by how people come up with elegant math solution for the challenges in Project Euler. I am not sure how I can achieve such elegance, proving my math is insufficient for what can be done.

axitanull··on What is it like to be a mathematician?
Where can I start learning math on my own? I always thought math books are arcane in the sense that perquisites math knowledge for one book are so vast that I couldn't wrap my head around one.

And if I may add, I hate the fact that I have to put credit card information on this free account.

Thanks for the RSS :D Unfortunately, I've got the same problem: the latest issue is #10 on my Google Reader.

axitanull··on Show HN: c
Googling topics on "C" has been tough for me for the past 15 years.

Bonus point for me trying to filter out C++.

axitanull··on Websockets and more: awesome node.js npm modules we use every day
I've always wanted to use mongodb as my primary data storage due to its convenience and all.

But how it's consuming all my memory has always been a problem, at least to me. (And afaik, it's currently not possible to limit its memory usage)

Do you use a dedicated Mongodb server with huge amount of RAM for this?
