awendt··on Show HN: Memory Chimp – How good is your working memory?
Yes, I've seen this sporadically. Problem is: The algorithm keeps a list of empty rectangles to draw the next circle in and sometimes the list is empty before all circles are drawn.

I'll try to catch that and probably just attempt a redraw...

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsXP8qeFF6A for a video that made me build this.

Google for "ayumu chimp" for a number of articles on the subject.

BTW, points are awarded for the time you take from the first to the last spot.

Thus, using a mouse costs you points. Better play it on a touch device.

Unfortunately, no :-/

OP and author here. Over time, you'll get better. A lot.

8 spots is okay for me now, used to be next to impossible at first.

This has nothing to do with UX. Yes, eBay has a terrible UX but some people have stuff to sell and no time on their hands.

Does Instamotor exist because of the terrible UX of car dealerships?

awendt··on The Town That Turned Poverty Into a Prison Sentence
The article is not about the fact that you can't survive without a car. However, having a traffic violation send you to jail for several years is an excellent intro for an article about modern debtors' prisons and the whole support apparatus around them.

> The worst part is that the people who get caught up in this are not exactly model citizens. Not exactly a clear case for sympathy.

Are you saying you fail to sympathize with them because those people are poor?

The U.S. have a reputation of giving everyone the same chance to make their own fortune, regardless of status. When you're thrown into prison, unable to pay back the debt that got you there in the first place, this is like the opposite of that reputation. There's no way out.

Whatever happened to "Give me your tired, your poor?"

awendt··on Could keybase.io do for crypto what GitHub did for Git?
After what happened to Mat Honan almost two years ago, having insecure systems like Twitter "confirming" my pubkey seems more like a nightmare than a good idea, doesn't it?

And the fact that Keybase.io even suggests uploading your private key puts a big fat "AVOID" sign on the service for me.

I suggest you read "Thoughts on keybase.io" (http://blog.lrdesign.com/2014/03/thoughts-on-keybase-io/), it touches the "roll your own" points as well as authentication and consequences like vendor lock-in.
