award_··on Sub.Rehab – See where Reddit communities have relocated
I felt like this is what I am missing as well from many of these subs going to discord. It might make some sense for meme subs and such, but not for the vast majority of subs.
award_··on SVB customers who lost their deposits remain on the hook for loans
We don't want to incentivize people to dodge taxes while thinking they'll enjoy all the protections paid for by taxes.

This exactly. Either the deposits were insured or they weren't (as it seems in this case). Can't have it both ways, having cake and eating it too.

award_··on Eight days later: Kbin, Lemmy, the landed gentry, and the rise of “threadiverse”
Thanks for the heads up, I totally blanked on signing up through SDF. I have other accounts through them, hoping to use them for a Lemmy homebase as well.
award_··on Meta says its new speech-generating AI model is too dangerous for public release
This is the exact same feeling I get reading this. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and I don't see anything here that makes me believe they've got something truly "earth shattering".
award_··on Effective June 7, 2026, Autodesk will no longer sell nor support EAGLE
It's anecdotal, but I just recently started getting into more hardware-oriented stuff and found that KiCad came recommended for PCB design/etc. I found it to be pretty useful, but I'm too much of a novice to really give it a fair shake.
award_··on Reddit.com appears to be having an outage
Yep, this is definitely just speculation, but I think this is it. Code/queries that worked fine at small load for private subs just doesn't work at scale when tons of subs are private.
award_··on EPA orders Norfolk Southern to conduct all cleanup actions related to derailment
I believe that has to be requested by the state and, to my knowledge, that has not occurred.
award_··on Twitter applies 7-day suspension to half a dozen journalists
I feel this comment. I wasn't always a 'fan' per-se of Elon, but I was definitely able to appreciate what his associated companies had put forth. Anymore, I can't stomach the continuous news stream of awful behavior, treatment of others displayed, etc. I cannot support a person like him or what he stands for/represents at this time (or in the foreseeable future).

award_··on Mistaken beliefs about how much to talk in conversations
The findings of this study are fascinating and counter-intuitive. It seems that we often have mistaken beliefs about how much to talk in conversations, and that speaking more than half the time can actually make us more likable. This goes against the common advice to "let the other person talk" and shows the importance of challenging our assumptions about social interactions. It would be interesting to see how these findings apply in different contexts, such as group conversations or online forums. Overall, this study highlights the complex dynamics of conversation and the need for further research in this area.
award_··on Whatever your fears for Twitter future are, Mastodon is already that
This is basically my argument here as well. Fully agree.
award_··on Whatever your fears for Twitter future are, Mastodon is already that
This is a hard take on mastodon. I've moved over in the last week or two and it's been a pretty good experience. I think there will be some growth in mastodon with more and more users involved in it as well.

Does a confederation of instances have it's issues? Sure. But we've already solved a lot of that with email for a long time anyway. I view mastodon/activityPub as almost an analog of email in the "social media" space. With time and use, it has every opportunity to become the mainstream used service for these types of needs imo. It 'solves' alot of problems that centralized social media systems bring, with only some of the detriments (imo).

award_··on Snap Store administrators removed signal-desktop from Ubuntu Snap
What are your others? I use signal alot personally and haven't had too many issues.
award_··on WordStar: A Writer's Word Processor (1996)
I work in legal software for courts and attorneys and can confirm WordPerfect is very much used by filing attorneys. Within the courts though, everything is typically PDF once filed.
