While I enthusiastically use LLMs for coding and engineering problems, I will never get an AI to generate my writing, argue for me, or purport to speak on my behalf. My words are my own.

TLDR: Don’t.

avazhi··on Australia says it could follow Canada in forging deeper ties with EU
As yes, I was wondering when my Federal government’s sense of FOMO would compel it to needlessly yap into the void like anybody cares. I see today was the day.

Hard to say what you're trying to get at here - are you saying people are shit writers and thus write in a shitty, LLM-sounding way, or that people are shitty writers and use LLMs to do the writing for them.

The latter is pretty inexcusable intellectually and disrespectful of people who will read the slop, and as the other guy said, it's incomprehensible (to everybody but you apparently) that shit writing would suddenly, in just the last few years and entirely by coincidence, mirror the shit writing shat out by LLMs.

avazhi··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
You asked for examples multiple times, got a plethora of them, and then went silent. Profile is old but the entire 1st page of comments relate to LLM language use and in particular how to sound like a human being and not a large language model.

A bit of cheeky botting? AI agent training mayhaps?

avazhi··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
You can’t tell the difference between an established company or individual (like Gates or Musk, who literally have their own family companies with dozens of staff - not to mention direct media contacts and access), and some random Polish guy who is butthurt about something. The media doesn’t want random QQing from the public. Again, if he’d sent it to one or two stations he prob wouldn’t have been banned, but sending it indiscriminately to a hundred is asinine. Ask an LLM to explain this to you if you still don’t understand.
avazhi··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
I just gave them to you. I'm not gonna copy paste shit you can easily find yourself on the page, bud.
avazhi··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
It's pretty blatant, but just have a glance at the subheadings to remove any doubt.
avazhi··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
Spamming is defined as sending a single message indiscriminately to a bunch of recipients. Old mate sent a single message indiscriminately to a bunch of media companies hoping to get publicity for his personal cause. Yeah, that's textbook spam.

> Pushing out tens of millions emails a day for years - no, that's creative.

No clue what kind of whataboutism you're trying to bring into the conversation here but it's irrelevant.

avazhi··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
Legit I laughed so hard when I got to that point and closed the tab.

100 emails to every 'media company' you can think of is textbook spam. No shit your account got banned, lol.

They still do this, in fact.

avazhi··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
Yes, I should have been clear - I don't mind AI working on patches or vuln-hunting; my issue with MacOS 27 is the amount of AI included in the OS that is not opt-in. I use Claude Code everyday - but it doesn't run locally on my main production machines.

I'm still on Sequoia and I have zero intention of updating to this AI-saturated slop.
avazhi··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
There's definitely a large group of consumers that are all about buying Canadian goods, and obviously the Canadian and American governments are having their scrap, but my point is that a genuine boycott on a global scale that would be concerted enough to harm American companies just isn't feasible. Even the Chinese, who have very obvious reasons to hate the US/Trump admin, and have the industrial sector, labour force, and local raw materials sourcing (rare earths for example) to build their own shit simply can't and haven't tried to completely decouple from all American goods. It just isn't possible. (Ditto the Americans being unable to decouple completely from the Chinese, despite all the threats to do so). It'd be true also to say that no country could boycott Chinese goods either at this point - they are too established into the global supply chain and making the economics work isn't feasible even if a country could find a way to source an entire production line somewhere else.
avazhi··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
Are you European? I ask because this seems like a very European thing to say.

Countries are buying less from America for sure, especially of particular goods, but neither Mexico nor Canada nor anybody else are 'boycotting' American goods lol. I'm not in America either (so don't accuse of introverted jingoism), but I work in the international trade sector. If you're gonna use the term boycott, use it properly.

> Once you get access to the Space anomaly the game opens up more and if you are social you will find outposts, pet arenas, race tracks and dog fighting/pvp zones. Ship building and freighters.

Outposts sound cool. I assume they aren’t just all the same thing. What do they offer? I’m sure it won’t be something I look at for 5 minutes and think ‘yeah this is neat’ and then realise there’s nothing deeper than that, right?

Ship building and freighters sound cool. I’m sure I’ll be motivated to do that because my stock ship is really holding me back. Oh wait, combat is a joke and I can perma farm max bounties playing with my toes with my default shop I bought on max difficulty/permadeath.

Pet fighting? What’s the point of that?

Everybody is nervous their first few times. Hell, I’d rather see that somebody’s nervous and actually human at this point lol.

Apple’s post-COVID keynotes have been like watching plastic people try to out virtue signal one another as they do their best Zuckerberg imitations. Nervousness and humanity anytime, please.

avazhi··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
Sadly NMS could get 1000 years of updates and it still wouldn't be even 1% as complicated or deep as Eve - and I'm not an Eve fanboy, I stopped playing that more than 10 years ago at this point.
avazhi··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
How I feel as well.

This game just doesn't scale well from mid game on - it's way too easy, even on permadeath + hardest difficulty. Like, making money is way too easy, combat is way too easy, everything is too forgiving. And the entire loop is centered on like, 3 things to do that are all variants of the same exact thing. Really hope they do a much better job in Light No Fire.

To the guy who replied to me: Our genius overlord moderators rate limited my responses so I'll post here.

> I wouldn't say it's too forgiving on resource grinding

You and I have very different ideas of what forgiving means. A reasonably intelligent 7 year old that enjoys and has experience playing video games could play this game on max difficulty settings and not have any issues. And while I never had an issue finding anything (shit is literally everywhere), resource scarcity doesn't equally an unforgiving game mechanic unless it's gated by some sort of difficult fight or something, which this game doesn't have. Combat is laughably easy and repetitive. I've got a couple hundred hours in the game, and at one point I was running the same bounty missions over and over again for some outrageous amount of money - the mission took 7 minutes round trip, the combat encounter was literally the exact same every time, same number of enemies just with different names. And that was the most efficient way I could make money in late game on the permadeath server on max settings. If that's the best economy loop a game can come up with, a 100% brainless combat encounter, then the developer has done something very wrong.

Not only did you pull a whataboutism but the whataboutism isn't even relevant to the topic of conversation lol.

> So far, it hasn't died nor turned into Reddit.

Depends how you define it. I mean, just because you or the moderators say so doesn't make it true - I've used this site for more than 10 years and I've never seen a higher proportion of political posts nor a higher proportion of blatantly partisan comments on most (not just political) threads.

It isn't like this site would be likely to die in the sense of 0 people visit it, so I'm not sure what you even mean by it dying and have no clue how you'd even measure that. For all you know, most of the commenters are bots - I could be a bot for all you know. But the quality of discourse has definitely become less tech-focused since I first started coming here, and as a Reddit user from early on it very much reminds me of that. Reddit in the beginning was basically to Digg what HN is to Reddit today, and the trajectory is - subjectively to me at least - very similar. What started out as a nerdy tech space slowly over time has and is morphing into political bullshit that never would have made the front page 10 years ago.

Having said that, there's no doubt all these sites have astroturfing issues, and tech in particular tends to have very vociferous users as a rule.

avazhi··on How GPT‑5.6 Sol helps run quantum computing experiments
I feel like, given how poorly techies view OAI and its executive team, they'd be better off not releasing PR (ie., IPO-farming) announcements like this.

If you've got something objectively monumental to announce then sure I guess (I mean, most of us will just assume OAI is lying/exaggerating), but nobody takes the OAI propaganda seriously. You might even say this is not how you make your first billion.

avazhi··on AI cancer cures slowed by chip shortage, says Arm boss
I mean, if I had a lot of money I’d do cancer research myself so technically cancer cures are slowed by me not having sufficient money.

Chip boss trying to drive demand for chips, big surprise.

avazhi··on An Alien Mind
Nobody takes you seriously, OpenAI. At least when Anthropic does it we all think they are comically idealistic enough to actually believe their nonsense, but like - come on guys, we’ve had discovery with your company. We all know why you’re here, and it isn’t because you think you’re on the verge of making AGI. But of course, to make your first billion you certainly need us to think you are.

If you were so concerned about your LLM’s capabilities maybe you’d spent slightly more time on your AI’s sandbox, yeah? Or be more serious about its propensity to cheat and lie relative to… every other model?
