atuladhar··on Matt Groening's Artwork for Apple
The blog post appears to have been removed.
atuladhar··on HN is 6 today. Here's traffic since the beginning
Whenever there's a tech-related thing (product, framework, company, or what have you) I need to know more about, one of the first things I do is google "site:news.ycombinator.com <thing>." Almost always fetches a lot of insightful content that I doubt can be found anywhere else as quickly.

Happy birthday HN!

atuladhar··on JSDB.io - A Database of JavaScript Libraries
Looks useful. Some comments

- I wish there were a way to sort by name

- How are the ratings calculated? (Just realized that if you hover on a library's rating it tells you the rating is "derrived (sic) from combination of the other metrics": would be good to know how exactly + "derived" is misspelled.)

atuladhar··on Why was '~' chosen to represent the home directory?
I use vim a lot, but as I was reading this, I realized that unless I was in a vim session (or pretended that I was in one), I couldn't remember which of the hjkl keys mapped to which direction.
atuladhar··on Google Shuts Down Patent Search Homepage, Picasa for Linux & More
Why not link to the horse's mouth: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/spring-cleaning-in-sp...
atuladhar··on JSONLint, The JSON Validator
Thanks; that's good to know. Thank you also for jsonlint.com; great tool.
atuladhar··on JSONLint, The JSON Validator
Also worth mentioning is the pure JavaScript implementation at http://zaach.github.com/jsonlint/ for people worried about sending data to the jsonlint.com server.
atuladhar··on New version of Apache HTTP Server released
From the announcement: "Performance on par, or better, than pure event-driven Web servers."

Is there any more information on how they arrived at this conclusion?

atuladhar··on New version of Apache HTTP Server released
There's http://code.google.com/p/mod-spdy/ -- not sure if it works with 2.4.
atuladhar··on Plan 9: The way the future was
Except that Plan 9 was designed by the people who built UNIX. Are you implying that the people who built UNIX don't understand it?
atuladhar··on The quiz Daniel Kahneman wants you to fail
I recently read Kahneman's 2011 book "Thinking, Fast and Slow" -- it should probably be required reading for everybody who's in charge of making decisions that affect a lot of people.
atuladhar··on Microsoft team submits Redis patch to enable Windows support
Not sure what they're going to do regarding fork, but they say this at the end of the gist:

TODO

Snapshotting (Fork and Write) is not perfect, right now we simply block requests while memory is dumped on disk. We are working on a solution that will give us better performance. An update will be released soon.
atuladhar··on ØMQ: Mission Accomplished
Are there any hosting services out there that currently support using ZeroMQ?
atuladhar··on Show HN: My weekend project, QR-codes for everybody
Pretty cool. One downside I see of the easy way of integration (as opposed to having to use a site-specific URL) is that the browser cache cannot be used (and as expected, the image comes back with a "no-cache" header), since the browser might end up using the same image for multiple sites using the feature. Is there any caching on the server to avoid having to generate the image every time?
atuladhar··on The most minimalist commercial website you'll ever see
Isn't the email address highly vulnerable to harvesting for spamming purposes?
atuladhar··on Show HN: Our app built at the Startup Weekend SanJose in 48 hours: Shout A Tweet
I agree that it needs an About or an FAQ page describing the service. I sort of guessed what it does by the tagline "same tweet, same time," but I shouldn't have to. If I'm right about what I think it does though, it's really neat idea.
atuladhar··on Sudoku Solving
I wrote one in JavaScript a long time ago, again using a simple backtracking algorithm.

http://www.amrittuladhar.com/projects/sudokusolver/

EDIT: Just realized the "load puzzle" feature doesn't seem to work on Chrome, but it does in other browsers.

atuladhar··on JavaScript Garden
But then, "native prototypes should never be extended unless it is for the sake of compatibility with newer JavaScript features."
atuladhar··on Google C++ Style Guide
Does Google have style guides for other languages? Are any of them public?
atuladhar··on Httpstat.us: API for generating different HTTP codes.
Yeah; it's sending back text/plain...

http://httpstat.us/404

HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found Server: nginx/0.7.67 Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2011 14:13:09 GMT Content-Type: text/plain Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * X-Varnish: 651017685 Age: 0 Via: 1.1 varnish Transfer-Encoding: chunked Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Encoding: gzip

atuladhar··on Poll: Where do you work?
What's the difference between "Non-web company" and "Other"? I work in the financial services industry, for example.
atuladhar··on Show HN: cubeduel (our side project)
"Whom would you rather..."
atuladhar··on Algorithms take control of Wall Street
Except that I see no indication this is a Wall Street Journal article. The site is Ars Technica; the by-line says "By Felix Salmon (wired.com), Jon Stokes" and the end of the article says "Felix Salmon (felix@felix salmon.com) is a blogger for Reuters."
atuladhar··on Facebook Google in 2010 in visits. wow.
As more people start using browsers that support searching from the address bar (e.g., Firefox, Chrome), this should not come as a surprise in my opinion.
atuladhar··on Top 250 cracked Gawker passwords
Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but those are the beginning terms of the Fibonacci sequence[1], without the leading zero.

atuladhar··on Fun abstract image generator using SVG and hashes
http://blotbot.co/#1bfac680

By the way, "innate" is misspelled on the front page.

atuladhar··on Did you know: In NYC, yellow cabs are required to take you anywhere in NYC.
Somewhat OT, but I'm wondering why you felt the need to mention that the guy who was refused was white along with "non-threatening" and "well dressed". I appreciate your posting this and would like to thank you for it, but it made me feel really uneasy when I came to that part.
atuladhar··on Things in MySQL that won't work as expected
As another comment (http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1880981) pointed out, this is part of the ANSI standard for SQL, and not exactly due to MySQL's handling of NULLs strangely (there, also fixed the apostrophes for you).
atuladhar··on Use Vim Like A Pro
Thank you!
atuladhar··on Really Slow Site for Testing HTTP Caches.

One of the "slower than" expressions has an unnecessary "than."
