atomicnumber1··on React Native at Airbnb
It's really fascinating to read about these in hindsight. But yeah, it must have been a nightmare for them.
atomicnumber1··on Arm unveils 7nm Cortex-A76 CPU
They already have a arm chipset working as controller in the latest iMac. I'm sure their end goal would be to get rid of intel as soon as they can. Using intel chipset gives them uncertainty. It leaves control out of their hand.
atomicnumber1··on Arm unveils 7nm Cortex-A76 CPU
Yes exactly.
atomicnumber1··on Arm unveils 7nm Cortex-A76 CPU
I think apple had this huge lead when they introduced x64 out of the blue. Over time other players will catch up, I guess. But yeah, apple's engineering team have been doing an excellent job. I'm excited about google's inclusion though. They already make great tpu's.
atomicnumber1··on GitTorrent: A Decentralized GitHub (2015)
I think he's trying to decentralize the centralized part of git. Makes sense?
atomicnumber1··on Consider using Digital Mars C compiler
>It is also a bit strange to see it not in a form of "hey, we really care about free software, so we ported this part to use a free compiler, here's the performance comparison, here are the unit tests, here are the build instructions", but rather in asking someone else to spend considerable effort on implementing this.

I seem to see this shift in ideology from People.

atomicnumber1··on Ask HN: What are some technical topics I can blog about?
Exactly!
atomicnumber1··on JavaScript is Good, Actually
I find swift and python to be more elegant in terms of expressiveness. Only issue with swift is that it's ABI isn't stable yet and still not official support for windows (I think, will need to check this).
atomicnumber1··on JavaScript is Good, Actually
are you that saying based on his contributions or the actual projects he's created? Because former doesn't make any sense to me.
atomicnumber1··on Malware Found in the Ubuntu Snap Store
Also, the aur community seems to be very active.
atomicnumber1··on Please Stop Using Adblock (But Not Why You Think)
I don't mind ads. What I do mind is intrusive behaviour of ads on a webpage. Some of the sites even crash my browser. I fear that, more we block ads, the more they'll find a way to show ads to users. And I fear that adblocker's might lose in this cat and mouse game.
atomicnumber1··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2018)
Do you hire freshers currently?
atomicnumber1··on Ask HN: Which Browser do you use on Mobile and PC?
I've no issues using it on PC. But, I don't like the Firefox UI on Mobile. Also, the fact that I can't set it default just makes me stick to safari, which isn't bad either.
atomicnumber1··on Microsoft built its own custom Linux kernel for its new IoT service
Not necessarily. Linux subsystem is really a helpful feature for web developers indeed.
atomicnumber1··on On becoming a better developer (2015)
It really depends. Sometimes a specialised developer would be more helpful than an general developer.
atomicnumber1··on Microsoft built its own custom Linux kernel for its new IoT service
Not if you're a developer. It has all other features stripped down. Even a photo viewer is absent. Linux subsystem is at beta level, no store (there are some good apps on the store), also no new windows features (fluent design, emoji?, gpu tracking in task manager, etc... you get the idea).

Granted not everyone needs this.

atomicnumber1··on Microsoft built its own custom Linux kernel for its new IoT service
IIRC Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB is for Specialized systems—such as PCs that control medical equipment, point-of-sale systems, and ATMs.

I wouldn't recommend to a developer or an average user.

atomicnumber1··on Apps of a Feather
Have they figured out any other viable business model? It seems like twitter is still struggling to find profit.
atomicnumber1··on Linux Kernel Lockdown and UEFI Secure Boot
Thanks!
atomicnumber1··on Linux Kernel Lockdown and UEFI Secure Boot
I don’t know. Sometimes I’ve difficulty with comprehension. I don’t know how to explain. I thought it was better to ask then to assume. Makes sense?
atomicnumber1··on Linux Kernel Lockdown and UEFI Secure Boot
Ok, I this might sound pesky but what's Linus referring to when he says "my kernel". Is he referring to his personal kernel or Linux kernel in general.
atomicnumber1··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2018)
You replied to wrong comment.
atomicnumber1··on Fifty or Sixty Years of Processor Development for This?
This is first time I'm hearing it but NDP seems really cool. I like the idea of augmenting the memory and peripheral devices with intelligence.
atomicnumber1··on Fifty or Sixty Years of Processor Development for This?
Makes sense. Thanks for the video.
atomicnumber1··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2018)

atomicnumber1··on Fifty or Sixty Years of Processor Development for This?
ok so I see that reducing fab size gives lot of benefits and they have steadily done so for past couple of decades. In doing so maybe they overlooked on design or other factors? And now that we've hit the wall on fab sizes (purportedly), maybe they can double their efforts on other factors.
atomicnumber1··on Fifty or Sixty Years of Processor Development for This?
I see. I wonder what there strategy would be like? To double the efforts in reducing fab size or in other factors.
atomicnumber1··on Ask HN: What are the best MOOCs you've taken?
Sorry. here's the link. You'd love it.
