We have achieved singularity!
ath3nd··on ChatGPT Developer Mode: Full MCP client access
> It's astonishing how many people think this kind of architecture limitation can be solved by better prompting -- people seem to develop very weird mental models of what LLMs are or do.

Wait till you hear about Study Mode: https://openai.com/index/chatgpt-study-mode/ aka: "Please don't give out the decision straight up but work with the user to arrive at it together"

Next groundbreaking features:

- Midwestern Mode aka "Use y'all everywhere and call the user honeypie"

- Scrum Master mode aka: "Make sure to waste the user' time as much as you can with made-up stuff and pretend it matters"

- Manager mode aka: "Constantly ask the user when he thinks he'd be done with the prompt session"

Those features sure are hard to develop, but I am sure the geniuses at OpenAI can handle it! The future is bright and very artificially generally intelligent!

ath3nd··on ChatGPT Developer Mode: Full MCP client access
I like how today we got two announcements by the biggest multibillion dollars companies: Anthropic and OpenAI and they are both an absolute dud.

Man, that path to AGI sure is boring.

ath3nd··on US High school students' scores fall in reading and math
OpenAI Study Mode will fix it. https://openai.com/index/chatgpt-study-mode/.

Oops, it won't: https://tech.co/news/another-study-ai-making-us-dumb

ath3nd··on Claude now has access to a server-side container environment
It's a really overhyped product.
ath3nd··on Claude now has access to a server-side container environment
> The Anthropic product adding a feature is not the end of employment or even a step along the way.

I respectfully disagree. Look at the groundbreaking Study Mode added by OpenAI: https://openai.com/index/chatgpt-study-mode/. Teachers are now jobless thanks to that amazing, monumental, revolutionary feature that the genuises at OpenAI added. Every one of their features is AGI.

ath3nd··on Claude now has access to a server-side container environment
You mean mass employment?

With the amount of slop/trash LLMs produce so quickly, we are gonna need even devs coming out of retirement to fix the unmaintainable trash that's been created now!

Every 10k tokens vibe kiddies spend is another retiree developer summoned to fix their shit.

ath3nd··on Claude now has access to a server-side container environment
Wow, that's like...a huge deal. It's a major feat of engineering when some software can create and edit files. That's like half of CRUD! Seems like they are really advanced, like magic!
ath3nd··on Ex-WhatsApp cybersecurity head says Meta endangered billions of users
What a trash company Meta has consistently been.

From enabling genocide in Myanmar, to interfering with elections, to giving user data to third parties in violation of its own daya policies, to straight up weird stuff like pirating/torrening books to train their steaming pile of garbage called llama, to having sex chatbots be weird to children.

And then there is the even weirder decisions of zuck, the biggest loser of all:

- VR didnt seem to catch on

- the metaverse is a giant smelly pile of poo and he sunk millions in it

- he is hiring AI engineers at absurd money in a rapidly cooling bubble market

- he immediately started ass kissing the orange stain that calls himself president

Is he purposefully trying to be a caricature cartoon vilain, a grotesque loser, and his company an emblem of evil? Or is it just cluelessness?

ath3nd··on The AI bubble argument misunderstands both bubbles and AI
That's great that you have your own definitions of a bubble. However, we are generally talking of a financial/economic bubble, which is pretty clearly defined: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_bubble for quite some time.

One just need to ask one question: "is there a big amount of companies in a specific sector that are valued far above their returns". If that answer is yes, that means we are in a speculative bubble. The current insane valuations of unprofitable companies point to the largest speculative bubble ever to exist. I can't wait for it to pop faster already so there are less articles like this.

ath3nd··on The AI bubble argument misunderstands both bubbles and AI
1. The leading companies in LLMs: Anthropic and OpenAI are both not profitable and rely on huge amount of continuous investment (from "successes" like SoftBank who continuously invested in WeWork) to even stay afloat.

2. Each model from GPT3.5 to GPT 4 to 5 has been 10x more expensive to train. However, we have long ago entered the era of diminishing returns where 4 was a big improvement from 3.5 but 5 was a mediocre improvement (and to some, a regression) from the previous model. That suggests, unless a miracle occurs, 6 will be extremely expensive to train to imperceptible improvements.

3. The latest "features" from OpenAI:

- study mode https://openai.com/index/chatgpt-study-mode/

- the rumor for an office suite https://www.computerworld.com/article/4021949/openai-goes-fo...

show that they are running out of ideas what to do.

4. Anthropic is settling on huge cases: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45142885 while struggling with usage vs monetization: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44715471

5. Anthropic are very early in their journey to be already scraping the barrel, yet they recently 180 on their ToS and admit that they, in fact, will be training on your chats (suggesting that they can't get more/quality data elsewhere): https://www.anthropic.com/news/updates-to-our-consumer-terms.

6. OpenAI and Anthropic are both connected to CoreWeave, Nvidia, Microsoft, Google. What is funny is that CoreWeave is also connnected/dependent on Nvidia, and so is Microsoft and Google. Those companies' stocks are a major part of the US economy at the moment. https://www.reuters.com/business/dominant-ai-trade-confronts.... "Meanwhile, the combined market cap of the 10 biggest AI plays, including Nvidia, Broadcom and Microsoft -- stood at $18 trillion, BCA said in a note last week. That amounts to about 33% of S&P 500 stock market capitalization, up from around 15% in late 2022, according to BCA."

10 companies in the same sector, comprising 33% of the S&P capitalization is a 100% bubble, and if anything, one of the biggest ever to exist. And I, for one, can't wait for it to pop so I don't have to read hype booster articles like this on the front page of HackerNews.

ath3nd··on Just How Bad Would an AI Bubble Be?
LLMs have been existing for 5-6 years already in some shape and form. How long do I have to wait for Claude to actually do something and me starting it to see it in OSS?

- Cause currently what we see in OSS is LLM trash. https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1kh72zf/open_source...

- And a large majority of users don't want that copilot trash in their default github experience: https://www.techradar.com/pro/angry-github-users-want-to-dit...

At what point that trash will become gold? 5 more years? And if it doesn't, at what point trash stays trash?

- When there is a study showing that trash is actually sapping 19% of your performance? https://metr.org/blog/2025-07-10-early-2025-ai-experienced-o...

- When multiple studies show using it makes you dumb? https://tech.co/news/another-study-ai-making-us-dumb

Cause I am pretty sure NFT still has people who swear by them and say "just give it time". At what point can we confidently declare that NFTs are useless without the cultist fanbase going hurr durr? What about LLMs?

ath3nd··on Meta suppressed research on child safety, employees say
The actual criminal here is the CEO. But of course very right-coded is to not care about child safety, since the right is the biggest perpetrator of child sex offences and don't mind associating with them.

https://www.npr.org/2022/04/19/1093364807/republicans-confro...

And the church the right is so fond of sure seems to have its own wiki page on child safety. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_sexual_abuse_c...

Of course Zuck, who's famous for ass kissing the orange stain that calls himself a president https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnGSYvEC-DQ (and who LOOOVES his daughter a little bit too much https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EPEkk6qWkg), would want to suppress child safety research, his benefactors demand it.

ath3nd··on Meta suppressed research on child safety, employees say
This is the company that:

- Enabled genocide in Myanmar https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2022/09/myanmar-faceb...

- Literally pirated books to train their trash AI LLM: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/02/meta-torrented-o...

- Violated human rights for Palestinians (even in 2021: https://theintercept.com/2022/09/21/facebook-censorship-pale...)

- Interfered in British politics with the Cambridge Analytica Scandal, one of the costliest and stupidest mistakes in UK's history (full of stupid and costly mistakes): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook%E2%80%93Cambridge_Ana...

- The CEO of the company is famous for ass-kissing even dumber people than himself e.g: Trump https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politic...

What else do you expect from the trashiest company in the world. Of course they don't care for child safety.

ath3nd··on Just How Bad Would an AI Bubble Be?
> uncritically quoted over and over assures me that the anti-AI fervor is at least as big of a bubble as the AI bubble itself.

Counterpoint: the AI fanboys and AI companies, with all their insane funding couldn't come up with a better study and bigger sample size, because LLMs simply don't help experienced developers.

What follows is that the billion dollar companies just couldn't create a better study, either because they tried and didn't like the productivity numbers not being in their favor (very likely), or because they are that sloppy and vibey that they don't know how to make a proper study (I wouldn't be surprised, see ChatGPT's latest features: "study mode" which had a blog post! and you know that the level is not very high).

Again, until there is a better study, the consensus is LLMs are 19% productivity drain for experienced developers, and if they help certain developers, then most likely those developers are not experienced.

How's that for an interpretation?

ath3nd··on AP reporting calls into question why and how Israel attacked a Gaza hospital
I like how it is flagged for no reason. Even more reason for us to keep talking about it since the technologies Israeli use to do the genocide are pretty impressive for us in Hacker News.
ath3nd··on New trend: extreme hours at AI startups
I thought AI was so good that it helps folks and do their work for them.

I expect these guys to have a lot of free time and be super assisted by the genius level LLMs they are developing.

ath3nd··on AP reporting calls into question why and how Israel attacked a Gaza hospital
> with assertions such as Israel shouldn't exist

A state committing genocide shouldn't exist. We disbanded Nazi Germany, the same should happen to the genocidal Zionist Israeli state.

At this very moment we have witnessed:

- the targeting of journalists (war crime)

- starving of the civilian population (war crime)

- bombing hospitals (war crime)

- targeting of children (war crime)

- shooting humanitarian aid seekers (war crime)

- illegally settling land that belongs to Palestine and forcing its rightful owners out off it (war crime)

All these war crimes together are what makes what Israel is doing a genocide. And the leading experts on genocide agree:

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cde3eyzdr63o

Israel has shown repeatedly that it cant stop genociding, so it has the same amount of right to exist as Nazi Germany: zero. Either stop the genocide or perish.

ath3nd··on Leading genocide scholars organization says Israel is commiting genocide in Gaza
Why flag the truth.

Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. And experts are agreeing on that. The UN already has placed the order for arrest of the war criminal Netanyahu.

ath3nd··on AP reporting calls into question why and how Israel attacked a Gaza hospital
Ah, a green account with negative points engaging only to defend Israel's genocide by whataboutism and playing the victim card. Israel is doing a genocide, an ethnic cleasing, similar to the Holocaust which was also a genocide and ethnic cleansing. Does the parallel seem enough for you?
ath3nd··on AP reporting calls into question why and how Israel attacked a Gaza hospital
This topic has 7 comments but ChatGPT4.001(or 5 if you believe their versioning) has 1k, all a variation of: "it changed my life, I want to drink sama's bath water, such a revolution, notice me, I am also with the herd".
ath3nd··on Nepal moves to block Facebook, X, YouTube and others
I would love Signal to register a representative, the rest of the companies listed can go die in a hole as far as I am concerned.

Maybe Youtube also, but nah, Google is almost as much a candidate for dying in a hole as Meta. Good riddance.

ath3nd··on Parallel AI agents are a game changer
Keep in mind that in their mind they are performing very well as they (or rather Claude) are churning PR after PR.

We gotta stop the endless characters production at least for a bit so we and the git servers get some time to breathe free from slop. A tactical coffee spill is a small price to pay.

ath3nd··on UK government trial of M365 Copilot finds no clear productivity boost
> I almost miss my middle managers running around with stupid blockchain ideas. reply

I tend to agree with you, I miss the blockhain times.

LLMs allow the generation of symbols and characters (calling it "articles", "essays" or "source code" is an exaggeration) too quickly for us to edit and almost too quickly for us to have a second thought and assess what we are reading. When your eyes have seen so much slop in such quick succession, your brain starts normalizing it and you are more likely to stop noticing.

There goes your good taste, there goes your critical thinking.

And of course, you get into these discussions now: "I pasted this prompt in Claude and my feature was done in 5 min, why did it take you two days?". I shudder thinking what further enshittification the future holds.

ath3nd··on UK government trial of M365 Copilot finds no clear productivity boost
Dont worry, OpenAI's unconfirmed office suite will be much better.

https://www.computerworld.com/article/4021949/openai-goes-fo...

Nothing says that they are close to AGI and that ChatGPT5 was a raging success more than an office suite. They already have study mode, so definitely you know they are full of ideas and totally not stagnating and unprofitable with huge compute debt.

ath3nd··on MIT Study Finds AI Use Reprograms the Brain, Leading to Cognitive Decline
If it wasn't for studies like this, you'd still think arsenic is a great way to produce a vibrant green color to paint your house in the color of nature!

Because of studies like this we know the burning of fossil fuels is a dead-end for us and our climate, and due to that have developed alternative methods of generating energy.

And the study actually proved that LLM usage reprograms your brain and makes you a dumbass. Social media usage does as well, those two things are not exclusive, if anything, their effects compound on an already pretty dumb and gullible population. So if your argumemt is 'but what about reddit', thats a non argument called 'whataboutism'. Look it up and hopefully it might give you a hint why you are getting downvoted.

There have been three recent studies showing that:

- 1. 95% LLM projects fail in the enterprise https://fortune.com/2025/08/18/mit-report-95-percent-generat...

- 2. Experienced developers get 19% less productive when using an LLM https://metr.org/blog/2025-07-10-early-2025-ai-experienced-o...

- 3. LLM usage makes you dumber https://publichealthpolicyjournal.com/mit-study-finds-artifi...

We reached a stage where people on the internet mistake their opinion on a subject to be as relevant as a study on the subject.

If you don't have another study or haven't done the science to disprove this study, how come you dismiss so easily a study that actually took time, data and the scientific method to reach to a conclusion? I feel we gotta actively and firmly call out that kind of behavior and ridicule it.

ath3nd··on MIT Study Finds AI Use Reprograms the Brain, Leading to Cognitive Decline
That explains a lot of Hacker News lately. /s

Like everything else in our life, cognition is "use it or lose it". Oursourcing your decision making and critical thinking to a fancy autocomplete with sycopantic tendencies and incapable of reasoning sure is fun, but as the study found, it has its downsides.

ath3nd··on Parallel AI agents are a game changer
