atentaten··on Launch HN: Play.ht (YC W23) – Generate and clone voices from 20 seconds of audio
The OP mentioned that for so called, "High-fidelity voice cloning", it would take 20 minutes of training. I think a book author would want the best quality possible to reproduce their voice.
atentaten··on Launch HN: Play.ht (YC W23) – Generate and clone voices from 20 seconds of audio
Generating audio for an audio book: If an author could speak for 20 minutes and then generate audio for an entire book from the book's text and the model, I think that would be very useful.
atentaten··on Show HN: I built a little online drum machine using 808 style samples
As someone who was into making electronic music back before Fruity Loops and Hammerhead—-a time when one coveted actual hardware, but was always searching and dreaming about software drum machines because they were cheaper or free, I always find it amazing that we can do this in the browser. I always love seeing cool projects like this come about.

The audio context thing where it won’t start without user interaction is by webaudio API design. OP would need to prevent the errors from coming up though.
atentaten··on My fifth year as a bootstrapped founder
It's true that most people can't afford to to not have enough earnings to pay for basic living expenses while pursuing the entrepreneurship path. The middle ground would be to keep a day job as you go along that path.
atentaten··on Flutter desktop isn’t there yet
I'm betting the farm on Flutter. I'm building a relatively complicated app that's integrated with native C code on iOS and Android. Before I decided to go with Flutter/Dart, paradigms that I knew nothing about, I experimented with all of the major frameworks. React Native, Expo, Ionic, Capacitor, etc. I chose Flutter because it had the best performance for what I was doing around high-performance audio. Flutter is allowing me to continuously move forward and make real progress as a solo dev. I'm finding the DX better than React Native. I'm going to need to make a related tvOS app as well, but not sure how well Flutter can support it.

Yes to how you imagine the UI layer, and yes you can definitely target both iOS and Android native APIs with Flutter.
atentaten··on How the marijuana ‘green rush’ fell apart
Off topic. I've been appalled at how tasteless store-bought strawberries in the U.S. have become. I don't know happened, a change in cultivar? 12 years ago I could buy flavorful strawberries in the U.S., today I cannot. I hope they have more flavor in AU.

atentaten··on Show HN: Obsidian Canvas – An infinite space for your ideas
It allows me to dump thoughts, ideas and things that I need to remember in one searchable and organizable home. Obsidian makes this easy by not getting in the way and it's highly customizable. I find it fun to use.

atentaten··on Ntfy.sh – Send push notifications to your phone via PUT/POST
Native mobile apps are typically built using Android Studio and its tooling. On the iOS side, it's Xcode and it's tooling
atentaten··on India lifted 415M out of poverty in 15 years, says UN
> India lifted 415M out of poverty in 15 years, says UN

At what costs?

I've heard this narrative before as it has happened in many Western countries and it is continuing to happen in China. I don't have the answer, but I always wonder about the costs of lifting so many people out of poverty, for example, there could be costs related to: environment, quality of life, traditions and values, mental health, etc.

Along with that thought experiment, I wonder how did they get into poverty in the first place. A lot of areas that are now declared as poverty zones today may have been poor in the past, but were self-sufficient and self sustaining.

atentaten··on Beyond the Raw/Pasteurised Divide
Been drinking raw milk for years. Also noticed that some lactose intolerant people are able to consume raw milk without any issues. People have been drinking raw milk from various mammals for eons. The risk associated with it is when dairy farmers don't use hygienic practices or make mistakes. When mass producing milk at scale, hygienic practices eats up time and money, so pasteurization provides a blanket solution to not having to waste time being too careful or worrying about making a hygienic mistake.

atentaten··on What it feels like to be bullied out of a job you love
After reading to the end, I was surprised to see race being mentioned as a possible reason to why this person was bullied--it wasn't something I was considering up to that point. The story is one-sided, and I supposed it can only be that way. But it could be that author was naive about something that they did or was doing unintentionally to upset the SVP or someone else close to the SVP. Either way, I think the SVP's behavior was abhorrent as well as the manager's.

As someone who has been in music production and software engineering, I appreciate this. I've also read the article you mentioned when looking at audio latency issues across the web and hybrid mobile app platforms (react native, flutter, ionic capacitor). I immediately found that the web audio API was pretty very solid with it's AudioContext, but there was some audio recording latency on Chrome for Android (hardware plays a role too) and the hybrid app frameworks all had issues with playing back on time, with the audio libraries for flutter being the most solid. My app needed to be able to play two audio tracks exactly at the same time. Anyway I think what you have done is really neat and wish you much success. I'm wonder how most of the users are using it.

I think WASM is very interesting and running Postgres in the browser is interesting, but for learning one could readily use something like db-fiddle, which offers Postgres.
