atburrow··on Boeing Flies on 99% Ada
I worked on the B1-B Lancer as well. We never touched Ada with OpenGL. It was mainly C++ with VAPS (http://www.presagis.com/products_services/products/embedded-...). I'm not certain where they're getting the 99% Ada portion as a lot of it is in C or C++.

I got out of that space though. I do mobile application development now.

atburrow··on Introducing Swift
Visual Studio isn't free in that regard either. What exactly are you comparing this release to?
atburrow··on Ask HN: How does Sway app know where I work and crush?
I just got the email. I don't use Facebook either but they also said three of my "friends" on Facebook are using it. It's definitely spam to get more users.
atburrow··on Project Tango
I agree. I suppose a Google Glass would be a bit silly since the screen would be unused, but seeing as it has most of the technology built in already, it would be easier to get a prototype working. An ear piece is another bonus added to the device as it could notify the user of obstacles.
atburrow··on Project Tango
It would be very interesting to see an application for this using Glass. Could this potentially help blind people navigate in unknown environments?
atburrow··on Clean, Modern Objective-C
That is my preferred method as well, but I've seen a lot of templates use:

-(void) doSomethingWithParameter:(NSString *)parameter;

atburrow··on Bitcoin users smash their iPhones after Apple bans Blockchain from App Store
I believe his logic is that you can sell an iPhone 5 on craiglist for $500 and use $400 of that to buy a Nexus 5, and pocket the $100 difference. What the author doesn't understand is that the $100 difference is what these guys are throwing away to send a message about how they feel about the decisions Apple has made about BTC.
atburrow··on What's Coming in Ember.js in 2014
I had the same issues as well. After several hours of hacking away, I noticed that projects (like Discourse) wrote their own data layer instead of relying on Ember Data.
atburrow··on LiteCoin Mining on EC2 is currently profitable
I'm looking at the spot instance price and it's hovering around ~$0.10. It's still profitable.
atburrow··on My deadly disease was just a 23andme bug
Most certainly not because I understand that 23AM is not infallible. I'd still take up regular checkups with my doctor and discuss my findings from 23AM with her.
atburrow··on Id Software founder John Carmack resigns
It will be interesting to see how the future pans out for both companies. John Carmack is a brilliant person and I think that Oculus VR will do very well with him on board full time.
atburrow··on Someone just made a $147,239,214 Bitcoin transfer
Or what if that someone is my n other bitcoin wallets that I use in rotation with varying degrees of trade depth?
atburrow··on Coin
In cases like that it would be unwise to put your company card on this card. You'd now be carrying two cards. In the case of having to carry two cards, it still fixes my George Costanza wallet.
atburrow··on How to generate 90k per month in 9 months
What groundbreaking things did they do? This post spoke about cut and dry success. I would've liked to hear more about the struggles they went through and how they got through them to reach where they're at. I think most people know that communication with the end user is key to winning them over long term. It seems to only reiterate what most other blogs say about "How we did x in y."
atburrow··on Introducing the Humble Store
Not to mention the tax write off that they'll get for donating such a large sum of money. It's definitely a win-win for EA since they were able to market their Origin platform in the deal.
atburrow··on An In-Depth Introduction To Ember.js
Thanks for this response. I think I may have to do a crash course on each one for a few days to make a more informed decision. I've always used Backbone to quickly prototype, but I like the idea of having a more complete toolkit once prototyping is done.
atburrow··on An In-Depth Introduction To Ember.js
I've always been meaning to take a look at Ember. When I first started seeing discussions about it about 2 years ago, there weren't many guides or quick examples on how it is different than other frameworks out there. What would the use case be for Ember.js vs something like AngularJS?
atburrow··on Ask HN: In 2016, will Rails & Django be competitive against newer technologies?
C isn't a framework.
atburrow··on Google Web Designer
Maybe an acquisition is in their near future.
atburrow··on Steam Controller
A lot of games have acceleration turned off, so you don't see what you're describing in such games.
atburrow··on [dead]
I'm getting a 502 on Gmail.
atburrow··on South Korea's Simple Way to Indicate Vacant Parking Lots
Save oil by using another precious resource: helium.
atburrow··on I'm creating a website to promote early stage sites and ideas
Could you add SSL support?
atburrow··on Play Framework Security Advisory
I believe the whole purpose of putting session data into cookies is to prevent the other issues that arise when storing session data on the server's database. The main issue is that when you're load balancing, each request could be load balanced to a different server, so you need the session to be stored on the client side to prevent the hassle of trying to scale your back-end to use your solution.
atburrow··on How Driverless Cars Could Reshape Cities
> Driverless cars are the anti-carpool - cars driving with zero humans going anywhere, pushing that average down.

How so? Who's to say that the driverless car doesn't pick up another passenger once it drops you off at your destination? Who says consumers even have to be the ones who own the car? There could definitely be a taxi-based system put in place to keep cars efficiently moving people around.

I agree that all of this speculation is wild, but why add artificial constraints on a system that's still in an infancy stage?

atburrow··on How to build (and how not to build) a secure “remember me” feature
What if the user gets their session hijacked when they're on a static or long-term dynamic IP? If the user were to relogin, their session ID would be the same. I think it would be beneficial to at least store a salt associated with their session and regenerate the salt when authenticating.

sha256($password . $ip . $random_salt)

You could also regenerate the salt periodically.
