ataylor32··on Django 2.2
2.2 is the first LTS since 1.11. I expect a lot of people will upgrade now that it's out.

Edit: Oh, but that doesn't account for the older Python version. Yeah, that is interesting.

I tried https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Geolocation... in Firefox 66 on macOS and Windows. I got "Unable to retrieve your location" on macOS (though it worked in Chrome on macOS). It worked on Windows, though.

ataylor32··on NES.css: 8-bit style CSS framework
Their documentation says:

We like the <i> tag for brevity and for the fact that most folks are using <em></em> for emphasized/italicized semantic text these days. If that’s not your cup of tea, using a <span> is more semantically correct.

ataylor32··on CSS Grid changes everything [video]
I think the average computer user knows that websites often look different on computers vs. phones, so they might be confused when a website looks different than normal on a computer. Like I said, I would only call this a nuisance. Certainly not a big deal.
ataylor32··on CSS Grid changes everything [video]
One scenario I can think of is a non-IE user telling an IE user to go to a particular website and click the button that's at the top of the right sidebar. For the IE user, it might be a stacked layout where the sidebar actually appears under the main content. I would call this a nuisance more so than a major issue, but nevertheless it is something to consider.

ataylor32··on Nintendo’s Resurgence
I hardly play any video games. When I heard about the Xbox One X, I figured it was the successor to the Xbox One like the Wii U is the successor to the Wii, but I found out that it's actually a high-end version of the Xbox One. It can be confusing!

ataylor32··on “MP3 is dead” missed the real, much better story
One downside to MP3s is that it's not possible (or maybe not always possible, or not easily possible) to prevent silence from being added to the beginning and/or end of the audio. This complicates things like gapless playback or loops. It also complicates using audio where a high level of precision is required (e.g. "I want this widget to appear exactly half a second into this audio").

> Moving from 1.9 to 1.10 is different than moving from LTS to LTS. The hope is that 3rd party packages will be testing against LTS releases at the minimum, which should allow you to make the jump after packages have time to update themselves.

This is true. Good point.

ataylor32··on Django 1.10 released
> Moving from 1.8 to 1.11 shouldn't require any changes provided that you're running with 0 deprecation warnings on 1.8.

Yes, this is how it's supposed to be. This agrees with Django's roadmap (see the "I’m the maintainer of a reusable application. Which Django versions should I support?" question at the bottom): https://www.djangoproject.com/weblog/2015/jun/25/roadmap/

However, it depends on the third party apps you're using. I have a Django 1.9 site that uses django-mptt. The site was running warning-clean, but when I attempted to upgrade the site to Django 1.10, it broke because of this issue: https://github.com/django-mptt/django-mptt/issues/469

jQuery helps with browser quirks, though. Search the below file for the string "// Support" to see what I mean. Yes, there are a lot of entries for older browsers, but there are also a lot of entries for relatively recent browsers too.

Very cool! Well done! My only suggestion would be to replace the font used for the letters with something more generic. As it is now, some of the letters don't really look the way they usually do in popular fonts. I think the best examples of this are the "G", "Q", and "S". The "G" actually looks better in Firefox 44 than Chrome 48 (both on Mac OS X 10.10). I like the animations, though, and I like how the letters animate when you hover over them.

ataylor32··on Version control: best practices
One thing that bothers me is when a commit has multiple changes that aren't related. A commit message will say "Implemented feature X", and that's true, but it's also making a small change to feature Y, which isn't mentioned in the commit message. It makes reading the diff harder because you have extra noise in there and it also makes it harder to answer the question of "Huh? Where did this small change to feature Y come from?".
