Oh no I guess no one should do anything!

Good Samaritan isn’t a blanket protection. If you have ANY knowledge or training you can be sued anyway. Unfortunately due to that law and others things, there’s absolutely no way I’m touching or helping anyone. Blame the litigious American society
asylteltine··on AI and satellite imagery reveals expanding footprint of human activity at sea
China! I can’t believe it! Why aren’t there actual consequences for this? The world needs to have harsher sanctions to China before it’s too late. If China becomes self sufficient, global civilization is literally over.

What’s the difference? China is responsible either way
asylteltine··on JAL A359 at Tokyo collided with Coast Guard DH8C on runway and burst into flames
I agree. It’s SO antiquated. Nevermind issues with clearance there’s even issues like pilots forgetting what was ordered or ATC not catching incorrect read backs. This is just ridiculous that still in 2024 we are using technology from 1950 as the only way to give instructions. We solved encryption and authentication years ago. FAA should mandate strongly authenticated computer messages as the primary.

But you know the real reasons it’s old.

1) corporate greed and no regulation

2) legacy… it’s always legacy holding us back. All the third world countries, Russia, etc would not adopt it.

Literally r/all before admins intentionally removed porn
asylteltine··on The I Hate AI License
Banning or limiting commercial use is still absolutely open source whether you like it or not. You can see the source, it’s open source. We don’t need everything to be a socialist utopia hippie fest
asylteltine··on The I Hate AI License
It’s not a big ask to force so called “””ai””” companies to you know, pay for the use of content. If a human did what models are doing, it would be considered plagiarism at best. It’s not okay. They can pay a license if they want to profit off my content.
asylteltine··on The I Hate AI License
This seems to be a troll yes. I use a variation of Creative Commons minus commercial allowances and also put a statement banning using my code for training too. It’s still “open source” by the way!
asylteltine··on The I Hate AI License
I love this thank you. Fuck so called “AI” and their theft of content. I really hope with all my heart the New York Times gets a big win. It’s simply not okay to blatantly use data you do not own to train your models. This is simply theft.

Wow that live video really puts the size in perspective. The firefighters are minuscule compared to the plane

Reddit is easily at least 30% porn if not 90%
asylteltine··on Israeli Justices Reject Netanyahu-Led Move to Limit Court
I agree. Which genocide are you referring to? The one China is committing now? Sudan? Yemen? Not sure which one you meant.

All red states get tons of federal aid
asylteltine··on Wealthiest Californians are leaving the state. It's bad news for the economy
I agree. Just get rid of states it’s so damn stupid. Why do we need 50 sets of laws?

I agree. Every single time I a new tool that’s written in Java, I sigh. Just… why? I understand old legacy enterprise stuff, but new things??
asylteltine··on I Vote on Plagiarism Cases at Harvard College. Gay's Getting Off Easy
Because of who the subject is, plain and simple. Seems to be a double standard here as is typical.
asylteltine··on Subject-First Commit Messages
This doesn’t work with conventional commits which is flat out awesome. But I will try mixing both because I like the idea
asylteltine··on Ask HN: What software/tech blogs/magazines should I be reading in 2024?
Hacker News at most. Otherwise nothing. Improve your skills directly
asylteltine··on Amazon's Silent Sacking
I have all of those and most people I know do also. Big tech is awesome. There are some bad apples but it’s very easy to move around.
asylteltine··on Maersk ship hit by missile in the Red Sea
That’s not the same thing at all. Hamas and the like have an official, publicly available creed which explicitly calls for the extermination of Jews. You sure you want to put that on the same level as one minister suggesting something stupid? By that logic, you absolutely must put all of congress in one group because trump suggested something similar.
asylteltine··on Maersk ship hit by missile in the Red Sea
Wonder why this is getting downvoted. It’s just a statement of fact.
asylteltine··on Amazon's Silent Sacking
Well in big tech I have good news for you, you get both!
asylteltine··on Amazon's Silent Sacking
Plenty of companies still have stuff like game rooms including meta. Band rooms too. It’s mostly Amazon that’s an absolutely awful, terrible, horrendous company.

asylteltine··on Spain confirms nuclear power phase-out, extends renewable projects deadlines
It is though. Uranium is literally the majority of the earths mass under the crust. It produces so little waste relative to the space needed to store it, it’s basically negligible.
