asiando··on Man found 'living in airport for three months' over Covid fears
The way they framed it is such BS. If he’s a danger to passengers, so are any passengers passing through such “secure area.” It’s not like he snuck in.
asiando··on Disabling Safari AutoFill for a single line address input (2019)
That’s backwards
asiando··on I Tried to Get a ‘Leftover Dose’ of the Vaccine Last Night
If there wasn’t evidence, they wouldn’t approve it. Just find the vaccines’ homepage and follow the footnotes.
asiando··on Safari 14 added WebExtensions support, so where are the extensions?
People downvoted you as if this wasn’t a sensible comment.

It’s not just “why would” a developer do it; It’s how can they do it without a Mac? They can’t.

asiando··on Safari 14 added WebExtensions support, so where are the extensions?
It’s funny that they have their own corner of the web where they own the entire API and the rest have to follow. Just because Mozilla and Apple share most of the API it doesn’t mean that Google won’t change it, in fact Manifest v3 is coming soon.

Mozilla has implemented additional APIs that are never going back into Chrome because Google doesn’t care and doesn’t have to.

asiando··on Safari 14 added WebExtensions support, so where are the extensions?
Hey check out the App Store, it’s full of paid Safari content-blockers. I begrudgingly bought one on Mac because the alternatives are trash.
asiando··on Safari 14 added WebExtensions support, so where are the extensions?
Regular web extension support downloaded from the Chrome web store? I’m interested
asiando··on Safari 14 added WebExtensions support, so where are the extensions?
Come on you can’t compare what it takes to submit an update on those two. Literally 5 clicks and drop a zip on the page, so long as they don’t single you out for manual review.

Apple requires a thousand clicks, a 11GB app on your computer and the manual review every time.

asiando··on Facebook sues two Chrome extension devs for scraping user data
Everyone trying to be funny here except that you’re all missing the point.

That data was public in the first place. These extensions can scrape anything, including your messages.

asiando··on Pirate Bay founder thinks Parler’s inability to stay online is 'embarrassing'
Given the speed I’m guessing it was towards S3 so there’s plenty of terabytes.
asiando··on You might not need jQuery (2014)
Assuming you meant "CSS Transitions": No, jQuery uses requestAnimationFrame.

* "CSS transforms" are unrelated to animations.

asiando··on You might not need jQuery (2014)
Yes but the former will silently fail on you. Good luck finding that!
asiando··on Distributing Mac apps outside the App Store, a quick start guide
Yes it does if you want to be allowed by Gatekeeper.

What’s the point of Gatekeeper if getting a new certificate is free? Once your malware is blacklisted you could just use the next one at no cost.

asiando··on Distributing Mac apps outside the App Store, a quick start guide
Plus signing up and paying for a developer ID. While it’s easy to minimize all of this, it’s still red tape and it’s extra work one has to do.
asiando··on Distributing Mac apps outside the App Store, a quick start guide
I’d rather not. After the initial setup I don’t see that many annoying prompts either, I’d rather not disable security measures when they’re really not that painful.
asiando··on FBI warns of plans for nationwide armed protests next week
I don’t know what to think. Per-tweet moderation would be seen as censorship just as well, and would be a pretty interesting exception on Twitter.

But also I don’t blame Twitter for finally putting an end to the misery he caused. I blame them for not doing it sooner, if anything.

asiando··on Did Trump Tell Supporters to Storm US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021?
He did get blamed, but it doesn’t sound like it will hold on court or even for an impeachment.

But then again IANAL.

asiando··on Did Trump Tell Supporters to Storm US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021?
Well, this POV certainly won’t get buried… /s

Rereading the speech I must agree and I don’t know that this will be enough for Trump to be punished in a court. Would “context” and ““knowing they would do it”” be enough to actually blame him?

asiando··on Malware on My Android Phone
What surprised here is that Android doesn’t have a native QR scanner. I’ve always assumed that iOS was late to the game and that Google Search/Lens handled QRs since 1999. Is that not the case (anymore)?
asiando··on We Will Soon Have Sentient Sex Robots. Will They Be Able to Consent?
The title reads like satire. I don't want to read the rest but I will just assume it's The Onion.
asiando··on Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump
> My point was credible threatening speech is already illegal in America.

So we agree. Trump’s tweets were pretty credible, don’t you think?

This whole mess this week happened because of one person who incited violence.

asiando··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
And that’s fine? What if AWS doesn’t like your business and gives you 24 hours to vacate the premises?

I think hosting should be treated like ISPs, which cannot force you out of internet.

asiando··on Wikipedia is 20
You can look for any slightly controversial company and find that their wiki pages skimp on the details of such controversies and minimize them as mostly resolved
asiando··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
Yes. If the content is illegal, it's up to the government to censor it.
asiando··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
I was ok with Facebook doing it, I'm not ok with a hosting kicking a paying customer out like this.
asiando··on Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump
Jokes aren’t included.

However some jokes already are illegal or at the very least will get you in trouble, for example there’s one word you can’t joke about in airports.

asiando··on Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump
It’s pretty simple, really.

“I hate Bob” is fine.

“Bob should die” isn’t.

Some tweets don’t need to exist because it might lead Bob to be killed, especially when said by someone with a cult-like following.

asiando··on Facebook: 64% of the time users join extremist groups, the platform told them to
A better way to put it is that Facebook let it happen rather than make it happen.

I don’t know whether Facebook is directly responsible any more than Jonh Walker is directly responsible for car accidents. In both cases it’s the product’s troublesome users that are awful beings.

Perhaps we just need legislation like we have for alcohol, which doesn’t eliminate the problem but certainly reduces it.

asiando··on Facebook: 64% of the time users join extremist groups, the platform told them to
I’d rather keep my Facebook groups and have Facebook manually quarantine misinformation groups and pages instead, in a way similar to how Reddit does it.

I don’t think we should reduce public liberties because some people take advantage of them. I’d rather punish/limit them instead.

asiando··on World's busiest international and domestic air routes
Most of those routes, with the exception of Jakarta-Bali, are in countries that have managed the virus well enough to avoid recurring/permanent lockdowns like in the US and Europe.

When Asian countries had to lock down, they were super strict. See Da Nang (Vietnam) in August.
