We put an ad on CL (they charge in SF) for a JavaScript developer and didn't get any promising resumes.

Everybody is looking for awesome JS folk.

It probably doesn't help that we are using fairly advanced framework like Google Closure for our webapp. Maybe that is intimidating for some people?

We can't compete with the likes of Facebook when it comes to compensation. There are some crazy stories out there of what they areoffering people.

Isn't a more interesting pitch telling folks that they can reach millions of users with a team that is solving interesting technical problems using pretty bad ass technology?

Good luck! You are trying to solve one of the biggest challenges we face right now.

We have a good product, happy users, catchy domain name (har) but are having a hell of a time hiring because nobody knows of us.

Yeah, Pylons 1.1 will have some forward-compatibility stuff with Pyramid. From what we know it should not be hard to migrate since it provides a lot of the same fundamentals as Pylons.

We did a full re-write last summer.

It was absolutely worth it and has since allowed us to iterate at a much higher speed. It was a bit terrifying to be at a feature standstill.

Our re-write was from Java(struts2) + BDB to python(pylons) + MongoDB.

webapp vs native, do users really care about the technology as long as you can make them happy?

The approach we took is native for mobile and webapp for everything else.

Our users are asking for a "desktop app", so we are looking at wrapping our webapp in a SSB and distributing that.

Thanks for the clarification, I guess folks (AWS) have gotten sloppy with semantics.

Can you expand on that?

For example AWS uses HMACs for signatures, what kind of scheme would you propose?

Can anybody recommend a good 3rd party WP hosting service that lets you run your own custom plugins? I'm tired of spending engineering resources managing our own WP instance.

You can get a nice TLD for a reasonable price.

And engineers are a heck of a lot more expensive than a catchy TLD.

We had to disable support for Google Maps on Catch.com because the costs was too prohibitive to use their "enterprise" SSL enabled version.

It's a damn shame because it was a really cool integration.
