just say you're not being serious and save us the time.
it sounds like a strange relationship with collectibles and raising their kids to have the same issue. is there any kind of cultural anchoring outside of the "cuteness", like how baseball or even pokemon cards have a larger system and entities that its collectibles represent?
to me Lababu feels more like art or fashion, it can be completely irrelevant what the "thing" in question is, but the perceived value is in the performance. do people think they're joining a club when they start wearing a Labubu?
isn't it still an odd choice for a nonprofit? it's hard to imagine a world without OpenAI and ChatGPT now, but at some point they decided being the best is most important. and presumably most profitable, since why just need a little more money?
Maybe they should get over it but IMO everyone should pick their battles carefully, and just because it looks like they aren't doesn't mean it's worth your time. It's Mr. Cringely's cross to bear.
I remember being excited about LLMs initially because it seemed like a natural evolution of the information saturated world we live in, we now need help deciphering the signals from the noise. But that was assuming that most/all the noise was from mis/disinformation. Now it just looks like another tool of control for the megarich to take even more from the rest of us. Maybe there is some hope in open source models.
come on now, surely you're not serious.
You clearly accept this as Progress, but isn't the core debate here that it doesn't improve life for humans?
I don't know where to begin if you're leading with that. Anything approaching reality is not good for the current administration.
Overall it meets the primary directive of this administration, which is to weaken the United States as a superpower and make way for Russia.
So it seems like to me they had an extremely short window to operate without much competition. CD-Rs being about $15 for a spindle and 6.5x the space was an easy pick.
With robotics and AI, it feels like there are a lot of directions it could go that would lead to higher quality of life and not just temporary advantages for killing other people.
The idea that people think this is some kind of holy war is something beyond nauseating.
Unrelated to the OP, but I bet the thousands of "exploits" that Claude Mythos has identified already are a lot of these kind of things that regular people would never think about.
slowly, over time, after we see abuses and hostility that require them. I guess eventually enough people get complacent and comfortable with the sense of order, opening an opportunity for the powerful to create chaos and profit from the disruption.
