arunc··on What Makes the Zig Programming Language Unique?
In C++ template code is "generated" at compile time. `constexpr` code is ran at compile time.
arunc··on Does Rust belong in the Linux kernel?
> Rust is massively more expressive

Albeit it is subject, compared to C, yes.

Not so much compared to D.

arunc··on Private profiles are now generally available on GitHub
GitHub is now owned by Microsoft. Just saying.
arunc··on Killing invasive species is now a competitive sport
You are not alone ;)
arunc··on Rust – A hard decision pays off
> We have a fully type-safe scylla/cassandra client, that does static validation of the queries

Is this on a crate by any chance? Thanks

arunc··on SurrealDB – Document-graph database, for the realtime web
Fantastic, thank you!!
arunc··on SurrealDB – Document-graph database, for the realtime web
Even Javascript rode on the Java hype/marketing albeit having no correlation with it.
arunc··on SurrealDB – Document-graph database, for the realtime web
> certain aspects that were hard to do with Golang.

Do you mind sharing those aspects?

arunc··on Kubernetes reinvented virtual machines in a good sense
Looks like illustrator, but I could be wrong
arunc··on LLVM backend for m88k architecture
Kai is also a core contributor to LDC, a LLVM based compiler for D.
arunc··on Hg Init: A Mercurial Tutorial
I was a very long time user of mercurial since it's early inceptions. It helped me really visualize the work as a set of patches. It has history rewrite feature on local, but it doesn't allow to force push the rewritten history/branch. We had to do lots of work arounds, processes, etc to cover for the lack of.

After switching to git, it felt complete. Yes, git UI is horrible and has the drawbacks of the snapshot model. But it is perfect for a team setting. This is why GitHub won and in turn git.

arunc··on How I went about learning Rust
> I’m baffled as to where that reputation comes from.

Aside from the awesome community that rust has, don't underestimate the power of marketing. Someone should ask Mozilla how much was spent for rust development.

Sun microsystems spent about $500 million in 2003 to push forward Java. https://www.theregister.com/2003/06/09/sun_preps_500m_java_b...

arunc··on The Crime That Killed Shinzo Abe
Not just G7, it's so common in many democratic nations. Wonder if anyone did a study of democracy and nepotism.
arunc··on Notes on structured concurrency, or: Go statement considered harmful (2018)
We have stayed away from Go exactly for this reason. The resulting entropy with Go is much higher.

This is a good article for sure. But it's just my opinion that Martin Sustrik who originally coined the term structured concurrency explained the concept better than this article at much better depth https://250bpm.com/blog:71/

arunc··on Vim 9.0
Long time user of vim as IDE, for over 20 years. I recently migrated to VS Code and I'm feeling satisfied and even more productive.

I still use vim from time to time on terminals, but I don't miss it at all as an IDE.

arunc··on Ask HN: What lifestyle choices have led to improved cognitive function/memory?
HRV breathing has improved my memory and cognition.
arunc··on Let's learn D game programming development (2021) [video]
Lack of structured concurrency is the reason I stay away from Go
arunc··on I’m switching from VS Code to VS Codium
I tried VS Codium early this year and went back to VS Code as clangd extension didn't work. Microsoft's C++ extension works great. I'll be interested to know if anyone has got clangd setup working on Windows.
arunc··on Comparing Exceptions and Errors in D
A nothrow function can throw? WTH.
arunc··on Comparing Exceptions and Errors in D
It is definitely unintentional. It's called the curse of knowledge.
arunc··on Ask HN: If Kubernetes is the solution, why are there so many DevOps jobs?
Curious how you ran 36k node cluster. Did it involve elastic scaling, etc? What are the alternatives for k8s?
arunc··on New Computer Language Benchmarks Game metric: time + source code size
Just curious, why does this benchmark not include D language? I remember seeing it a few years ago. Was it removed recently?
arunc··on Embracing Modern C++ Safely, Book Review
Someone needs to write a book with the list of books to learn C++ the correct way. It's definitely unaffordable.
arunc··on Minikube quickly sets up a local Kubernetes cluster on macOS, Linux, and Windows
Why do you think so?
arunc··on Cello – High Level C
I recommend to look at D. https://dlang.org/

From the next release you will be even able to import C into D. https://dlang.org/changelog/2.099.0.html#__import

arunc··on Single binary executable packages
> have it stowed in your .git repository so that everyone in your team gets the same experience without onboarding scripts

This is ironic. Do people really version their binaries in git repos?

arunc··on Debugging with GDB
Try QtCreator, you won't be disappointed if you are coming from VS.
arunc··on A Saudi woman's iPhone revealed hacking around the world
Yes, indeed. I don't see an edit option.
arunc··on A Saudi woman's iPhone revealed hacking around the world
"Cook's egg" is a recommended reading. Summary here (spoilers ahead): https://icdt.osu.edu/cuckoos-egg
arunc··on A Saudi woman's iPhone revealed hacking around the world
It takes an expert to know that there's vulnerability. Whereas construction engineer can "see" the pothole and so they can fix it. Software engineer has to "know from exploits" that there's a vulnerability so they can fix it. It's not far away when OS are written in memory safe languages like Rust.
