I've been rate limited by HN and I think it's my cue to exit. This is my final message to the community with my best regards

I consider a message from dang as a badge of honour.

I totally understand the tone of my messaging is rather incongruous with the ethics of this site but I hope you can believe there is a light that shines deep within which actually cares and nurtures a deep love for our community and everyone in it.

I'm not sure if you can call it tough love but it's a mask for a sincere affection. I will try a different tack and I am grateful to your words.

It's our Achilles heel that we don't recognize our own selves and don't always see ourselves in others, we use the voice we talk to ourselves with to speak to the world around us

It's like I'm trying to solve the hardest computer problem on earth and I've been banging my head on my desk for an eternity. I think we can all relate to that feeling.

It's good of you all to keep it real for all of us, goodbye.

There are many call recorders, from ones that activate the speaker and record through the mic to others that activate a threeway call and record that way.

The one I prefer is one which taps into the audio at the core level and captures the stream -> https://callrecorder.skvalex.com/get

My favourite feature on an unlocked android phone is having a call recorder

Is this semantic markup for writing or is it like headers and paragraphs? I'm pretty much stuck in the LyX mindset when it comes to treating documents as code.
artsyca··on Mincome: Canada’s 1970s universal basic income experiment
I'd be inclined to view it more as a social safety net, an investment in society and a means to lubricate the wheels of the economy by facilitating spending.

I understand what you're getting at. It's like you're trying to put out a fire in your kitchen when your whole house is on fire. It would work if you could get it all done at once but not when you try to do it piecemeal.
artsyca··on Relax for the Same Result (2015)
Exactly! There's always going to be that one guy trying to prove he's a 10x that'll trek out all on his own into the wilderness in the middle of the night and then a bunch of others who will follow because that's she start-up way
artsyca··on Relax for the Same Result (2015)
It's more than the 80/20 rule, it has to do with how people perceive the notion of work. It used to be we would let the computer do the work for us and we'd kick back and read mad magazine. Now it's the other way around and the tools are driving us instead.

And it's because in our rush to not get corporate like those people we despise, we've become even worse than them and our desire to fit in and gain acceptance and recognition have caused us to go all out like the fellow on the bike and we're just causing pile ups which would be better off if we cleared the road.

Everyone has several people on their team who would do well to just stay home and let the others do their thing.

It's not only personality cults. There are all sorts of false cultures. The only one that works is the family model but that one is widely misunderstood and in practice it is hardly ever done right except perhaps by a professional military or sports team.
artsyca··on Trust, Slavery and the African School of Economics
Slavery and branding are two things which predate recorded history.

We pretend like anything has changed but in actual fact the same rules apply as always.

Money alone is enough to set the world in motion. If you value peace prepare for war. The only way to make any money is to sell the fruits of someone else's labour. You can't buy loyalty.

artsyca··on Relax for the Same Result (2015)
Totally analogous to every single self-styled agile software development environment I've ever worked in.

People pushing themselves to the breaking point when they could get better results by just stopping whatever they're doing and take the week off.

I predicted every comment before I read it down to the one about the right cmd button I too have used the Mac while eating a taco.

Dudes, this comment has gone from 0 to 5 votes, I don't even know what to make of it any more.

Who actually knows? The whole reason we exist is to say or do that thing that would not be said or done if we hadn't been there to say or do it..
artsyca··on I Am Deleting the Blog
Naw dude your point is not lost -- and all this discussion is happening on a zero-point comment mind you
artsyca··on I Am Deleting the Blog
Is that true? I've gotten hella downvotes but still not shadow banned. I think it's because people read my comments in their own voice rather than in my voice and take offence to the words whereas it's just a way of communicating using signals in order to point to an underlying meaning
artsyca··on I Am Deleting the Blog
I've been saying that too, 'reason for downvote' or 'link to profile page'
artsyca··on I Am Deleting the Blog
you see how much discussion is happening under a 0-point parent?
artsyca··on I Am Deleting the Blog
Oh cm'on people are way too sensitive
artsyca··on I Am Deleting the Blog
I'd say this forum is exactly this. How often have I self censored because I just don't want the downvotes?
artsyca··on Why some physicists think there's a 'mirror universe' hiding in space-time
Dude computer science is the one field to rule them all
artsyca··on Why some physicists think there's a 'mirror universe' hiding in space-time
Yea dude that's my theory that time is what keeps everything focused on one single now so that energy doesn't leak out to some other now somewhere else

There's nothing outside this one moment, ever.

It all moves together in perfect unison and that's why the speed limit is the speed of light.

Edit: for all these other histories happening outside of the now, they can't change shit about their timelines so they obviously don't have the same freedom of movement we do, do they?

artsyca··on Why some physicists think there's a 'mirror universe' hiding in space-time
There's only one now. That's time forcing everything to happen all at once. Quit thinking like a classical physicist and take into account all the discoveries of recent years. I fucking hate this website why do I keep coming back to it?
artsyca··on Why some physicists think there's a 'mirror universe' hiding in space-time
It's our shared now dude. We're in the here and now. Ben Franklin is dead as a motherfucker.
artsyca··on DeCSS Haiku
The medium is the message.
artsyca··on Why some physicists think there's a 'mirror universe' hiding in space-time
I'm pretty sure we'll eventually understand that our universe has no beginning and no end, it's a perpetual motion machine.

As well we'll understand that time is not the fourth dimension per se but the constraint that keeps everything happening in the 'now'

artsyca··on Today’s developers don’t need what the App Store offers
I rather get a high number of downvotes than upvotes quite honestly.
artsyca··on Today’s developers don’t need what the App Store offers
Bro. While technically true, $99/year is actually less than nothing if you really think about it.

Edit: do the math -- $99/year x 1 developer account versus even $1 for the app for a modest number of users. you're dealing with a fixed price versus a scaling factor.

A lot of us may espouse the view that "code is poetry" and may even have the sticker to show for it on our laptops -- but how many of us have actually written a code poem in this fashion?

In their infinite wisdom our technological ancestors created high level languages to help us on our way and this article reminds me that code is language, it tells a story.

Code is meant to be human readable and it's meant to be the ultimate design document. Code is in its very nature self-documenting however we must attain a level of mastery before we can write code others can actually read.

I'd say the disparity between people who can write any old code and people who can efficiently write readable code is the greatest challenge to our industry and will likely always be.

Code is at the nexus of mathematics and poetry and sure we can choose convenient notations to make the output more elegant but without input from the author's hand it'll only ever be machine readable.
