aritmo··on Pine64's $30 Linux Smartwatch Launches
Next to 'out of stock' should be a 'email me when there is stock again'.
aritmo··on NSO Group Hacked
That looks reasonable. The NSO Group malware perform active attacks. By creating this front (the NSO Group) that is supposed to have private customers, they can put in their own targets and have some form of deniability.
aritmo··on Amazon Shuts Down NSO Group Infrastructure
They are trying to claim that the service is so fully automated that it is the client that does the selection of the target. They claim that their system does not require any fine-tuning from their side, etc.

And that's totally bullshit.

aritmo··on U.S. Will Formally Accuse China of Hacking Microsoft
Is the US the only country complaining publicly about such things?
aritmo··on Mysterious DNA sequences, known as ‘Borgs,’ recovered from California mud
The sequencing machines were probably not designed to deal with dirt. Some small chance that it is a problem with the machines.
aritmo··on Ask HN: How would you react to a applicant who does not believe in Covid Vaccine
Antivaxxers are people who get easily angry/duped from what they read on social media. It is a sign of inexperience.

It would be a big NO for certain roles.

aritmo··on Mitmproxy 7.0
I am talking about the HTTP requests.
aritmo··on Mitmproxy 7.0
Thanks for mitmproxy!

Suppose I have set an interception filter and I am viewing a live packet. I am about to edit it, etc.

But when a new packet arrives, the text UI moves to the new packet! I have lost the packet that I was looking a few seconds ago.

Is this an issue in mitmproxy or am doing things the wrong way?

aritmo··on It's been three years. Stop saying your European visitors are important to you
This should become a meme so that those companies will think twice in using that phrasing.
aritmo··on A third of Britons fear TikTok would share data with Chinese state – TikTok
TikTok is targeted just because of the economic war against China. It is a very successful app by a Chinese company.

The "share data with Chinese state" is just a ruse to clip the wings of the Chinese and attack a popular Chinese app.

And a third of Britons took notice of that ruse.

aritmo··on Freenode is pointing irc.libera.net to chat.freenode.net
Libera.net was registered in 2000.

This whole issue can be easily resolved if anyone has a domaintools account and check the history of the libera.net domain.

https://whois.domaintools.com/libera.net

aritmo··on A Sombre Goodbye to Linux
The current Inkscape snap will crash when you try to import. Just click on File - Import and crash!
aritmo··on Turmp unlikely to win social media lawsuits
Those social media lawsuits came just after those tax evasion lawsuits.
aritmo··on Stolen Picasso and Mondrian paintings found stashed in a ravine in Greece
It's 'lawyer talk'. It does not make sense, but if you are not paying attention while reading it, you would register it as something positive for the thief.
aritmo··on If you paste your password on my bank's website they ask you to retype it in
When you copy-paste, you first 'copy' and the password is in the global clipboard. Some other app may be able to read the clipboard and get your password.
aritmo··on The Case Against the Covid-19 Lab Leak Theory
It's kinda obvious that the 'lab leak theory' was created just to attack China.
aritmo··on GitHub Copilot regurgitates valid secrets
It is one thing to put by accident your API key on your public Github repository.

And it's another (bigger) issue for Copilot to pick up that API key and put it in someone else's project.

aritmo··on Is Alexandra Elbakyan in real trouble this time?
You can just publish to a relevant journal, and make the PDF available easily to Sci-Hub. As in, put the PDF on your homepage along with the DOI so that Sci-Hub can easily pick up.
aritmo··on Digital Violence: How the NSO Group Enables State Terror
You realize that 1) the website is critical to the NSO group, and 2) you can have more than one separate/independent browser session on your computer to browser stuff on your computer?
aritmo··on Darktable 3.6
The first is for general consumption, the second is the dev blog entry of the changes.
aritmo··on Why Computing Students Should Contribute to Open Source Software Projects
Why disparage China when you have Hacktoberfest?
aritmo··on Siberian cave hosted Neanderthals, Denisovans, and modern humans
The importance is with "at the same time" or "at different times".

Another way to put it, is "This cave is so amazingly good that Neanderthals, Denisovans and modern humans stayed in there".

aritmo··on “Please don't waste maintainers' time on your KPI grabbing patches”
There is much hostility against Huawei. In the email, the message title was really offensive and even assumed something about KPI, as if the Huawei engineer was inventing patches in order to count as more contributions.

Even the editorialized subject of the post on HN is polemic.

What is this problem with Huawei? It is the US government that is doing the economic war against China and because of that, decided to cripple Huawei.

aritmo··on My Road to Cancellation
Example paragraph: "Using a fear of cancellation to silence half the population, SJWs dismissed the steady social progress that was the trademark of the world’s most successful multicultural society. Instead of celebrating the progress flowing from our commonalities, they fomented division by pointing to historical injustices."

Not color-blind but tone-deaf.

aritmo··on The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2
The summary:

> Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.

aritmo··on Contacting aliens could end all life on earth. Let’s stop trying
I think South Park has the most thought-provoking take on this: https://www.cc.com/episodes/oki0th/south-park-pinewood-derby...
aritmo··on McDonald’s Hit by Data Breach
Terrible. The user information can be weaponized by the health insurance companies.
aritmo··on 'I was completely inside': Lobster diver swallowed by humpback whale
Whales have a small opening to their stomach. The best they can do, are objects smaller than a grapefruit.

Therefore, a whale would not be able to consume a human.

aritmo··on ‘An0m’ Encrypted-Chat Sting Leads to Arrest of 800
The technical information

>Anom devices located outside the U.S. sent blind carbon copies (BCCs) of the messages to a third-party XMPP bot, which the FBI refers to as an “iBot” server located outside of the country. That’s where the bot would decrypt the messages and then re-encrypt them using keys that the bureau managed.

aritmo··on Two Hidden Instructions Discovered in Intel CPUs Enable Microcode Modification
The 3-letter agencies have probably playing with this for a long time.
