aristofun··on A Programmer's Loss of Identity
Controversial point - many problems of today's IT industry stem from people taking their job too personal.

Do you know many plumbers or doctors who are so connected to their work that they do plumbing or doctoring as a hobby?

I personally try to avoid such Programmers when possible, they usually overengineer everything they touch just for the sake of engineering. Without even realizing there is a problem.

aristofun··on Watching an elderly relative trying to use the modern web
Great phrase “protfolio driven design”, together with “cv driven software engineering” they contribute to “metrics (not even profits) driven businesses”.

Did end users ever had any leverage or it was always like this, I wonder

aristofun··on Watching an elderly relative trying to use the modern web
This (elderly) is the ultimate UX test that most products and apps and websites fail miserably. Modern UX is a joke.

I wonder how we got so low from standing on the giants shoulders in the early days (I still miss my Sony Clie Palm OS organizer as being superior in its main goal organizing than any ios app I've tried after that).

Were we working for too long inside our comfy IT bubble echo chamber?

Or is it just a general quality problem and 2% law? With design just being more sensitive and more overlooked area (there is not much opportunities for innovation there to hype and inflate your CV with).

aristofun··on The wonder of modern drywall
One thing I know for sure - this thing benefits mainly builders and renovators, not end users.
aristofun··on Ask HN: What happens when capability decouples from credentials?
Would you rather trust your life to a doctor or some AI expert?

What about a million dollar instead of life? A fate of your startup?

Your point breaks pretty quickly when it comes to real deal, not anecdotes and journalists’ stories.

aristofun··on Ask HN: How do you audit LLM code in programming languages you don't know?
How can a tree fall in the wood where nobody there?
aristofun··on Ask HN: Why is my Claude experience so bad? What am I doing wrong?
If you expect it to _do_ things for you - you're setting yourself up for failure.

If you treat it as an astonishingly sophisticated and extremely powerful autocomplete (which it is) - you have plenty of opportunities to make your life better.

aristofun··on Resizing windows on macOS Tahoe – the saga continues
I bet some manager came up with a perfectly reasonable explanation why it couldn’t be done in this release ))
aristofun··on My eighth year as a bootstrapped founder
> Are you saying that one cannot make a living just hacking around?

You probably can survive, but not come even close to the salary you'd get being hired by some well established company.

The distinction is what you put first - business (and make hacking constraint by it) or hacking.

aristofun··on My eighth year as a bootstrapped founder
Did you notice how you used the word “solopreneur” thus supporting my point.
aristofun··on Ask HN: Why are electronics still so unrecyclable?
NO! We have enough regulations already
aristofun··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
Could you be more vague and generic?
aristofun··on Tell HN: AI is not a slippery slope, it's a waterslide
TL;DR persistent auto updated context feature is requested
aristofun··on My eighth year as a bootstrapped founder
This example once again shows me that being “pure” indie solo hacker is not sustainable.

You have to be first and foremost indie entrepreneur and indie salesman and only then you can afford free hacking if you have time left.

aristofun··on AI Isn't Dangerous. Evaluation Structures Are.
Boooring :)
aristofun··on Ask HN: Am I holding it wrong?
Absolutely not. Every codebase has some nuances but majority folows very similar rules and patterns. There is nothing to mitigate just don’t expect that something trained on A would suddenly be good at B
aristofun··on Ask HN: Am I holding it wrong?
> I use tabs instead of spaces for indentation. It seems like the model is massively weighted on code written using spaces (duh)

LLMs by nature are not very good at peeing against the wind. Also on average they are only as good as the average codebase they been trained on. By design.

aristofun··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
How do you afford OCR receipts in a free app?

Why this llm crap is here??
aristofun··on Early Christian Writings
Can you recommend specific books?
aristofun··on How to effectively write quality code with AI
Why shallow and likely generated posts of a “Knowledge Management Advocate” get so many stars on hn?

Just because of a hype?

aristofun··on Ask HN: Ideas for small ways to make the world a better place
This has been quality answered many times by smartest people but nobody cares.

Take Kant for example and go improve yourself, as the only part of the world you can really change.

aristofun··on An Update on Heroku
Who cares about heroku in 2026? It’s a dead horse
aristofun··on Ask HN: Why LLM providers sell access instead of consulting services?
yes, recursively selling tools for shovel makers can be even better :)
aristofun··on Ask HN: Why LLM providers sell access instead of consulting services?
Because selling sophisticated shovels in the gold rush is much more profitable than finding gold and trying to make and then sell jewelry
aristofun··on BMW's Newest "Innovation" Is a Logo-Shaped Middle Finger to Right to Repair
Who cares about bmw except gangsters and narcissistic psychopaths these days anyway?

The quicker they bury themselves the better for everyone, more market space will remain for good car manufacturers

aristofun··on Ask HN: How Did You Validate?
I wonder for every Dropbox how many similar products are there in the graveyard.

Technically I understand the market fit as the point where your unit economy starts making ends meet and showing positive dynamic. If for every dollar spent (on everything including and most importantly user acquisition) you can prove yourself that you get >1$ returns, your business model works.

And I doubt there is a simple strategy for that, or even a finite number of strategies, even complex ones that can guarantee you anything.

And I'm sure nobody truly knows "in advance that it'll succeed" whatever "it" is.

aristofun··on [dead]
Exact reason why there is no actual consistent non-contradictory atheism view, only agnosticism and theism can be logically sound.
aristofun··on The history of C# and TypeScript with Anders Hejlsberg [video]
which one?
aristofun··on The history of C# and TypeScript with Anders Hejlsberg [video]
Typescript is the best thing that happened to web development since web development.

I just hope they will not overengineer and ruin it moving forward
