Doing software stuff in the Bay Area.

I've released an experimental iPad sequencer called Composer's Sketchpad: http://composerssketchpad.com

And an Untappd-integrated app for drink tracking called Good Sprits: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/good-spirits/id1434237439

I've also dabbled in CRDT research: http://archagon.net/blog/2018/03/24/data-laced-with-history/

Not OP, but copyright law is an absolute joke. No, I don’t care one whit that someone’s TOS was violated. In fact, I find it hilarious. And it’s not “theft.”
archagon··on That post never existed. Stop listening to that thing
If that's all we wanted, we wouldn't make them talk like humans and pretend to have a sense of self and emotions.
archagon··on Five US tech giants' hidden debts soar to $1.65T on opaque AI funding
Maybe the "left behind" rhetoric stems from the underlying anxiety of this whole thing imploding and taking the economy with it.
archagon··on I'm Done with Mullvad
The true hackers have long left this site, I'm afraid.

What's left is an audience devoted to power, money, and being the boot that stamps on a human face.

archagon··on I'm Done with Mullvad
No conspiracy, just someone who loathes white supremacy with every fiber of my being. And yes, this is exactly the core platform of any Western party pushing for ethnic cleansing and “remigration.” (Deportation of anyone considered not Swedish/British/etc. enough even if they’re squeaky clean and integrated into local culture.)

Sorry, but we’re all in this together. Anyone who disagrees won’t get a cent from me.

Also:

> unfettered and uncontrolled migration

Bullshit, immigration is already massively down: https://archive.ph/20260720101017/https://www.economist.com/...

Same lie far-right parties around the world use to enact their sick agendas.

archagon··on I'm Done with Mullvad
“Ignoring this bit of gutter racism is the only way to move forward.”

No fucking thanks. Not an inch. Here’s a politically savvy idea: maybe somebody should make an immigration-skeptical party that’s not frothing at the mouth about ethnic cleansing.

Also, it’s just one VPN out of hundreds. The free internet will somehow survive, I’m sure.

archagon··on AI Mania Is Eviscerating Global Decision-Making
So you say.
archagon··on I'm Done with Mullvad
This is how we get psychos like Alex Karp running the world.

Of course his ire is useful. You just don’t want it to be.

archagon··on Americans are angry about data centers. Politicians are feeling the pressure
Nobody's gonna change their mind about AI wastefulness from an obviously AI-generated infographic. The author should have realized this with about 5 seconds of thought.

The medium is the message.

archagon··on AI Mania Is Eviscerating Global Decision-Making
I flagged your comment for adding zero additional information to the discussion. Let's see if it also sticks around.
archagon··on Three sacred cows that must die so Europe can live
"Hordes," huh? Is that how your mother taught you to talk about other people?
archagon··on Three sacred cows that must die so Europe can live
Someday soon, I trust the present tide of white supremacy will turn. What will racist creeps like DHH do then? There’s no taking these dehumanizing words back. They are opting themselves out of participation in a future world.

At the very least, it’s utterly boneheaded business acumen. If I was working at this company, I’d run for the door.

archagon··on Mac gaming is finally getting the overpowered upgrade it deserves
I don’t think it matters. My Studio Display XDR has pretty bad motion performance (similar to Macbook, maybe a touch better) and you can still play first-person shooters perfectly fine. In the general case you don’t notice it much. It’s only a problem with fast planar movement, e.g. strafing along a wall and trying to read some text that’s written on it. (Spelunky 2 is much worse than CS in this regard, but still not a massive issue. Just a bit ugly.)
archagon··on FAA lets Boeing sign off on 737 MAX, 787 airworthiness certificates again
In my experience JetBlue and American Airlines usually fly Airbus.
archagon··on FAA lets Boeing sign off on 737 MAX, 787 airworthiness certificates again
Sure there is. Just fly carriers that use an Airbus fleet. It’s honestly pretty trivial.
archagon··on Everybody's Weirded Out by AI–Except the People Who Foist It on Us
Exchanging messages with an algorithm that pretends to have a concept of self and emotions is inherently disturbing.
archagon··on The LLM Critics Are Right. I Use LLMs Anyway
> I strongly agree that written text should be from humans to humans. Yet I still write all of my texts with LLMs.

Hypocritical garbage. Into the blacklist you go.

If you can’t even use your own words for basic communication then there’s absolutely no reason for me to take you seriously.

archagon··on Bluesky Trademarks ATProto
This is a non-sequitur? ATProto was explicitly designed to not be compatible with ActivityPub. They shot first. So why are you focused on tone-policing ActivityPub?
archagon··on Bluesky Trademarks ATProto
A bizarre exaggeration. In my feeds, maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the people I follow use non-.social instances. The same cannot be said of Bluesky.
archagon··on The lost joy of music piracy
Yeah, but people aren’t uploading high quality music to begin with. It’s probably like two or three levels of compressed by the time you yt-dlp it.
archagon··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
The hacker intelligentsia is long gone from this site. It’s little more than a VC/tech merc mixer.
archagon··on Ask HN: Does it still make sense to write code by hand?
Everyone thinks they’re an expert, but AI is brand new and nobody knows what the fuck they’re doing or what the ramifications are going to be. I see a lot of people cheerfully deskilling. I think it’s going to end up being a costly mistake to employers and employees alike.
archagon··on DOGE is done. What happened to its records?
Well, DOGE and their ilk killed all those sick/starving people and managed to increase the debt somehow.
archagon··on DOGE is done. What happened to its records?
A patient is in the middle of surgery. The surgeon is informed that the patient's insurance no longer covers the procedure. Should the surgeon leave the patient sliced open on the operating table, pull their tubes and IVs, and slam the door on the way out?

This is effectively what DOGE did by "feeding USAID into the woodchipper" rather than developing a plan to gradually taper aid. Thousands of people in the middle of medical treatment just died. Thousands of children relying on USAID food and supplies just died. There are plenty of articles with first-hand accounts of this.

Worst part is, Musk and his boys did it this way for shits and giggles, or maybe for the adrenaline rush. Monsters.

archagon··on DOGE is done. What happened to its records?
Death and suffering on an unfathomable scale will be the ultimate legacy of these people. I wish they would be confronted with their crimes in front of a tribunal, but they’ll probably get away with what they did, at least in a legal sense.
archagon··on Control the Ideas, Not the Code
People who do this are no longer engineers in any real sense. They’ve switched careers to technical management.
archagon··on Woman in Brazil enslaved for 55 years by 3 generations of the same family
Thank you! Putting it on the watchlist.
archagon··on Ask HN: Add flag for AI-generated articles
Personally, I've never seen a dead comment come back to life. I'm not sure using the vouch button does anything. (It does for submissions, though.)
archagon··on Ask HN: Add flag for AI-generated articles
I beg to differ. It's a far cry from where it was a decade ago.
archagon··on Ask HN: Add flag for AI-generated articles
They only have to slip up once. And they will, because LLM users are lazy, and LLM content naturally regresses towards the mean.
