For a few more years until their former customers move on to competitor's walled garden and become their customers.
> starve said governments of significant yearly iPhone + case purchase VAT
I can't believe any government seriously feeling the lack of VAT from iPhone sales. That's tiny, even for tiny countries in the EU.
Not to mention lack of iPhone sales don't equal lack of Smartphone sales, and grey markets would make an already pricy product even pricier and less desirable because of lack of support, warranty etc.
Other brands will sell, and VAT will be collected.
It’s like a comparison of “I’d be mildly annoyed” vs. “I’ll burn myself alive” as far as reactions go.
2. Accept every scary permission prompt Apple throws at you
3. ???
4. Meta now has your home scanned.
This is how I see Apple’s argument. I wonder why they let the Browser exist then. It opens you up to so many more dangers, they should’ve let you only visit “apple.com” and maybe a few trusted partners.
Right now I’m not bothered by whatever “features” that are already delayed, but if the list gets larger, and their competitors find a way of not delaying them (I think they will), I’ll simply jump ship the next time I upgrade and that’s that.
As a consumer I can’t care less about Apple’s woes around DMA.
More like it was around three years earlier to the market, and already had a huge network of users, developers and apps.
Yeah no, it wasn't prejudice that erased them, but budget and quality. I mean just look at three screenshots of these games tell me you'd be as excited about them as you'd be about World of Warcraft, as a kid.
Also this video has some 6 million views now: https://youtu.be/xC5uEe5OzNQ?si=GOvwOTHV-RVQnxWv . I remember watching it and being awed by the cube effect.
If AI enables regular folks to make programs, even if the worst quality shovelware, there should’ve been an explosion in quantity. All the programs that people couldn’t made, they would start making them in the past two years.
As for people in general, safe bet in almost any topic is that most people won’t care. :) So yes most people use VSCode.
Unironically, maybe VS Code.
Everything simple you can do with it, either comes built-in, or within Github/Microsoft ecosystem, or has an official plugin that gets recommended and featured by the editor itself. Plugins from individual hobbyist developers I have, I can almost count in one hand. (VSCodeVim being the most important one)
Now I compare this to my Neovim setup, and that one is basically running on charity from OSS developers.
With that being said, just a quick look at, for example Stack Overflow 2025 survey tells me it doesn't have the same mindshare it once had.
I lost track of what happened there (moved to Vim back then), was it VSCode that killed it?
That’s because practically no one gets gas and buys groceries with it.
All the porn of the world wouldn’t be a drop in the sea that is MasterCard.
If it was about the laws, at worst Valve could block Australian users from buying adult content and that would be it.
It's a standalone tool with YAML configuration, simple to use.
Basically the way it works:
- You create the secret in GCP/AWS/etc Secrets Manager service, and put the secret data there.
- Refer to the secret by its name in Teller.
- Whenever you run `$ teller run ...` it fetches the data from the remote service, and makes it available to your process.
Steam has its virtual wallet and marketplace as well, so Visa is twice removed from where the money will actually go once it enters Steam ecosystem.
Even as an abundance of caution, this doesn’t make sense to me.
Bigger problem is that for most real world problems who is Nazi and who is Jewish depends on who you ask. Sucks to be Jewish in a Nazi world where even payment processors hate you.
He’s clearly a dangerous maniac and a threat to the society.
That’s why the only option was to lock him up.
The combined reputation of all four wouldn’t reach Valve levels. If not net negative. Difference is too large between Steam and any of its high-profile competitors.
The ratio of me hearing this vs. seeing it actually affect change is maybe 10000:1 at this point.
Why not just vote with your vote instead.
This feels like trying to poke small holes for no reason.
Let’s say bankrupt studios are off the hook. What then? Most games still be saved. EA just announced they are killing Anthem in 2026. EA won’t be bankrupt next year. There you have one game already immortalized thanks to regulation.
You need a real HDR display (800 nits+), FALD or OLED for contrast, some calibration, and software that uses it well (really hit and miss at least on Windows).
Once all the stars align, the experience is amazing. Doom Eternal has one of the best HDR implementations on PC, and I suggest trying it once on a good display before writing HDR off as a gimmick.
There’s something about how taillights of a car in a dark street in Cyberpunk look, and that just can’t be replicated on an SDR display afaict.
Then you have some games where it’s implemented terribly and it looks washed out and worse than SDR. Some people go through the pain and mod them to look right, or you just disable HDR with those.
I’d vouch for proper HDR any day, that being said I wouldn’t expect it to improve Mario Kart much even with a proper implementation. The art style of the game itself is super bright for that cheery mood, and no consumer display will be able to show 1000nits with 99% of the frame at full brightness. It’ll likely look almost the same as SDR.
Maybe not today on its heyday, but who knows what happens in 20 years once OpenAI becomes Yahoo of AI, or loses much of its value, gets scrapped for parts and bought by less sophisticated owners.
It's better to regard that data as already public.
