The ethereum blockchain cures all that ails you. It is an undertaking of great advantage.
aqsheehy··on Viper: a new programming language from Ethereum
I agree: it seems the only efficiency Ethereum facilitates is to act as the platform to create unregulated securities. I'm sure the SEC loves that.

Patent filings / Farmland ownership transactions: There is a reason these aren't already bearer assets.

Educational transcript / lab reports / gov transp.: How is it an efficiency for this to be on a blockchain. Do we now not trust archive.org?

You need an oracle for prediction markets to function. Voting on the truth doesn't work, you will be sybil attacked into oblivion. Is there an oracle present in these contracts? If there is, why wouldn't basic multi-sig work just as well?

What inefficiencies are closed by using ethereum for prediction markets?
aqsheehy··on Viper: a new programming language from Ethereum
Why would you want bearer assets for that? What inefficiency is there in the current system that would be solved with more decentralization? Why ethereum instead of something like namecoin or counterparty?

aqsheehy··on The solution to the housing crisis is extremely simple
I rent because I have no specialization in identifying property value, and I don't like gambling. I feel no regret in letting my landlord take on the additional risk of managing the property for a chance at higher returns.

Why would anyone buy property under this regime?
aqsheehy··on The solution to the housing crisis is extremely simple
I feel like I'm failing an IQ test here. I assumed he meant 100% tax on rent, but then there's this line:

>Owners of valuable land would be forced to make maximum use of land with higher density rentals in order to make sufficient rental income to pay the land tax.

What would the 100% be on exactly?

aqsheehy··on Fake news is too big and messy to solve with algorithms or editors
Is the problem not then that they should have represented it as "things people are interested in right now" and not as news?
aqsheehy··on Fake news is too big and messy to solve with algorithms or editors
Exactly. The solution facebook should be applying to fake news is to just block all content that disagrees with the viewpoint of the individual reader.
aqsheehy··on Fake news is too big and messy to solve with algorithms or editors
The hard part is the "when their stories are found to be factually incorrect". If you have that solved that then you don't need the rest. Otherwise you would just game the system by retracting posts irregularly.
aqsheehy··on Fake news is too big and messy to solve with algorithms or editors
The algorithm for identifying fake news is actually pretty straight forward:

if I disagree with it then it's fake news

else it's just news
