apphacker··on John Gruber's Post-I/O Thoughts
Opera Mini is a great app for reading news and such, but as your main browser? It doesn't execute 99% of JavaScript. You can't load any smartphone targeted websites with your smartphone. Not very smart.
apphacker··on Fake Steve Jobs: Why I'm Switching to Android
You can download xcode too, you just need an apple developer account. I prefer downloading than going hunting for my Mac OS X disc.
apphacker··on Twitter Display Guidelines
So uh my little Chrome extension I made has to do all this shit? Uh fuck that, thank you very much. I'd rather just delete the extension. What a bunch of bullshit.
apphacker··on Fake Steve Jobs: Why I'm Switching to Android
Install xcode + mac ports? True about the terminal settings I guess, especially if you use screen + irssi.
apphacker··on Fake Steve Jobs: Why I'm Switching to Android
However I may feel about iPhoneOS, Mac OS X is a beast that nothing else can compare to. At least for a consumer unix experience where everything just works.
apphacker··on 8-bit StarCraft
This kind of post is probably against the guidelines. It does not engage any intellectual curiosity, and probably falls under:

>Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic.

This isn't meat & potatoes, this is cotton candy. There is already lots of it on Reddit.

Basically this is the kind of Reddit-like submission that has turned y-combinator alumni off from HN.

apphacker··on Lessons Learned While Building Reddit to 270 Million Page Views a Month
Not sure why that matters.
apphacker··on Taylor Momsen Did Not Write This Headline
Someone rewrote my ironic headline. Had they read the article they would have understood what I was doing. Thanks for dumbing it down moderator.
apphacker··on Duck Duck Go Traffic & Sponsorship
Hrm, you can't trust aws stats. In my opinion they are frequently over-reporting traffic. I recommend using a JavaScript based logger such as Google Analytics or Site Catalyst if you want better numbers.
apphacker··on Lessons Learned While Building Reddit to 270 Million Page Views a Month
I don't know why people keep using reddit as a reference for how to do scaling. Reddit is a slow website with frequent outages. It should be a how not to example if anything.
apphacker··on HP bought Palm after a five-company bidding war
Doubt it, RIM already has their own operating system, although it may be that D is RIM.
apphacker··on Dear Mark Zuckerberg
> Nothing is really private on Facebook anyway.

I'm so tired of hearing this. It was private once. Not everything on the internet is public. My bank information is on the internet via my bank's website and that's not public. There's a space for private social networks where I can just communicate with my sisters and wife and dad and not have to worry about what we are sharing with each other being publicly broadcasted.

apphacker··on ALL code is ugly
jslint solves all of these problems.
apphacker··on Twitter bug: Make anyone follow you on Twitter
I disagree with the "it's only Twitter" because Twitter is becoming increasingly important to me, but yeah, not worth getting angry about. At least that's what I tell myself.
apphacker··on Twitter bug: Make anyone follow you on Twitter
Probably just rollback to a previous snapshot?
apphacker··on Ask HN: Would anyone be interested in a Hacker News wiki?
It could be a like a crunchbase, only a wiki. I like the idea.
apphacker··on Please review our startup Favetop.com - Internet Desktop
If I refresh this page after creating an account it continuously doubles all of the icons on that page (first time one amazon icon, one Facebook icon, one of all the other icons, second time two of each, next time four, etc until it gets ridiculous):

apphacker··on Digg Cuts 10% of Staff
Reddit also has considerable more uptime and speed issues than digg. I like Reddit, but it is slow and recently often experiencing issues.
apphacker··on A Cover Letter To Penny Arcade
What a horrible interview process and post-interview discussion. Even if I had gotten the job, after watching that self-important and vague, irrational driven reasoning process I'd promptly turn it down.
apphacker··on Ask HN: Review my startup - Scribd (YC S06)
Use the zoom.
apphacker··on If you're an Android developer and looking for ideas, start here
Wow thanks. Yeah that needs to get improved. :O
apphacker··on Opera joins in Jobs v Flash argument
Seems like a sane sentiment, although I personally think flash still has a place. I don't imagine that five years from now we'll be looking at flash as a relic.
apphacker··on Today the Dow dropped 1000 points in about ten minutes.
Why would you want a panic? The market is built on confidence, we want the market to have confidence...
apphacker··on If you're an Android developer and looking for ideas, start here
Great, but how does that allow me to copy text from someone else's email? Like a call in pin or something? If I click reply the quoted text does not show up in the text field.
apphacker··on Today the Dow dropped 1000 points in about ten minutes.
"We should be down big today, but not 1,000 points. This is an equity market structure issue, there's no major problem going on."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/10101581.stm

Doesn't sound like a panic to me.

apphacker··on If you're an Android developer and looking for ideas, start here
An email client with copy and paste would be great, and zoom.
apphacker··on Scribd CTO: “We Are Scrapping Flash And Betting The Company On HTML5″
Losing breakpoints? Why would they lose breakpoints? Maybe I misunderstand but you can debug JavaScript with breakpoints.
apphacker··on [dead]
Not watching a dog get shot. Sorry, not on my schedule of events today or ever. I also don't watch beheading videos from mid east or chechnia.
apphacker··on Adobe shows off prototype Android tablet running Air and Flash 'flawlessly'
Maybe it's surprising because the iPad does not run flash.
apphacker··on Ready to leave? Why you shouldn't give two weeks' notice (2005)
Those kinds of clauses are illegal in states like California and Arizona. You or your employer can terminate your relationship at any moment without cause.
