Thank you :)!

I found in cases like this increasing the height scale produces more appealing results :)

Refresh the page, make your chart, close formatting options and wait for 5-10 seconds. The button should appear.

Typing that out made me think I might have made a mistake by hiding print functionality too far. I just didn't want to be too aggressive showing this option

Hey there, I'm the author of the tool!

Just wanted to chime in and say thank you for the sharing and love!

Have a wonderful start of the year!

I just saw a lot of them lately popping up on Reddit as static images. So I made the interactive version

Bummer! I didn't know that association.

Hi there. I'm the author of the tool. Thank you for the kind words!

The data has a few bugs, I shouted out to the data provider here:

Hopefully they will find time to fix it

Thank you! Amazes me how some people use it creatively to teach ordinary differential equations

The idea was to match animation speed of the gif and JavaScript implementation (which was 24 frames per second)

requestAnimationFrame() (RAF) is more likely to fire approximately 60 times per second than setTimeout(..., 1000 / 60) would. But I needed 1000 / 24, and setTimeout worked very well, so I used it.

If I were doing it all over again, I'd probably use RAF with window.performance, or simple counting variable as a timer. RAF is indeed much smoother than setTimeout and on top of it, RAF saves battery life when a user doesn't have your page open.

Good question!

I think if you find passion that needs math, you'll get your math to solid level too.

I'm personally never was good at math, so I want to see how it looks. That Christmas tree took me probably a week to build, and for someone it is likely a 10-20 minutes project.

Anyway, this curiosity motivates me to learn and build more. Hope it would work for you too!

Hey, author of the project and the 2013 post here.

Just wanted to wish everyone amazing holidays! Thank you for love and shares :D

PS: More projects since 2013 can be found here: https://twitter.com/search?q=from%3Aanvaka%20min_retweets%3A... - hope you enjoy it.

Hm... I'm at lost.

https://jsbin.com/fuyijan/2/edit?js,console - this works in Chrome, and non-private mode of Firefox Quantum (64.0.2 (64-bit)). However when I open private browsing in Firefox Quantum request fails.

Anyone might know why?

Not going to ever stop! I have sooo many ideas - I wish I could be more efficient :).

I didn't look into frequency. Is there a version of jaccard similarity that accounts for frequencies?
anvaka··on Show HN: A tool to find related subreddits
It would be fair to say so. The core layout is the same with a bit more polished overlap removal and animation.

It is jaccard similarity https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaccard_index

Also I described it a bit more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning/comments/aek3yk/p_l...

Good call. I was worried that I'd "spam" the browser history and people who are coming from reddit or HN would never go back to where they came from :)
anvaka··on Show HN: A tool to find related subreddits
I didn't use pushshift, sorry. The data was collected from bigquery, stored locally into CSV files, and then I just wrote a node.js script to compute similarities.

hmmm... I don't see the error on my end. What browser do you use? Can you try in "incognito" mode? Are there any extensions that might be blocking this?

The book was good - learned quite a bit from it. Easy to read and very insightful.

Made this map to see what else is around

The documentation for Product Advertising API is great: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSECommerceService/latest/DG/We... - wasn't to hard to get started.

Long time ago I've mad a service to show the graph - https://www.yasiv.com/#/Search?q=designing%20data%20intensiv... - but the layout is very different there.
