Very similar experience at a recent conference. Love his blog, and writing in general as well

Nothing I believe. I checked the people involved in both projects and couldn't find any overlap

Anything specific? I work there - would love to help out if you are still working on it
anujdeshpande··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of the articles you want to read?
Larder
anujdeshpande··on Ask HN: What discontinued company/product do you wish was still around?
Amen. Post reader I gave up on RSS because Feedly wasn't it for me. I even tried the one as part of Thunderbird.

I have been using https://elytra.app recently. Pretty happy so far (iOS only at the moment, but the developer is working on a web version)

anujdeshpande··on Modi’s Cash Crackdown Failed, Indian Bank Data Shows
Isn't it scarier if the government has ulterior motives as a political party?

What you are essentially saying is that the government is not beyond passing policies that result in disruption, death, drop in GDP, and more just to push their political party to win state and other elections

anujdeshpande··on Pixelblaze V2 – An advanced LED pattern development engine and controller
Since this runs on ESP8266, could be done easily I think
anujdeshpande··on In India, Summer Heat May Soon Be Literally Unbearable
New Delhi is probably one of the worse hit places. The general sentiment is true in a lot of other places in India too. Pune, where I reside, used to be a place where the British had a lot of properties because the climate was closer to what they were used to (cold). It's changed quite a lot in the last couple of years. We reached 43 deg C last year.
anujdeshpande··on Microsoft built its own custom Linux kernel for its new IoT service
I think its a marketing thing. Engineers wouldn't have let this one slide.

My professors at college taught a simple rule of thumb - if it can't run regular Linux it's probably a MCU. Finer print talked about the presence of a MMU being the key differentiator.

I've stuck to that definition so far. Might have to rewire if this gimmick catches on

anujdeshpande··on Microsoft built its own custom Linux kernel for its new IoT service
How are you finding the Espressif stack?
anujdeshpande··on Microsoft built its own custom Linux kernel for its new IoT service
Exactly. I think these end up as good PoCs - and it would be amazing to think of a future where we can run one of the Linux derivatives on a something that was designed with FreeRTOS or equivalent in mind - but it's just not going to happen on a commercial scale in my opinion.
anujdeshpande··on Hindu Nationalists Undertake Effort to Rewrite History in India
Not sure if you are justifying the present government's stance or finding faults with a government that is no longer in power.

I am not sure if "X-1 used to do this too" is a valid argument to "X is using it's power to rewrite history to suit their beliefs".

anujdeshpande··on Money stolen by Bernie Madoff is still being found
Also available on Netflix (in some places)! DeNiro plays the title character - loved the movie :D!
anujdeshpande··on China using big data to detain people before crime is committed
For the uninitiated, it's an amazing movie starring Tom Cruise which talks about "precrime" - although no big data involved. Highly recommend that one watch it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minority_Report_(film)
anujdeshpande··on How I, a woman in tech, benefited from sexism in Silicon Valley
On that same note, there's a recent documentary called "The Red Pill" about men's rights.
anujdeshpande··on How I, a woman in tech, benefited from sexism in Silicon Valley
I am a little concerned with the 'may have been "unfair" to certain individuals' bit of your post. It takes a lot of effort to not react to such incidents- either non-violently or in the worst case violently.

This pent up frustration at being part of a pseudo meritocracy is reflected in unfortunate places - - "Oh why do you care about this appraisal <girl's name>, you can marry and settle rich" (unfortunately this actually happened to someone I know).

My point being - the people that might be victims of your 'may have been "unfair"' approach, end up as not-nice people who are proponents of the sexism that we are trying to end here.

This.

Blanket/irrational bans are not new. In Dec '14 we saw a ban[1] on GitHub and some other sites.

I can confirm that it's blocked in Pune, India. [1] this article confirms that it has been blocked in Delhi (and more). That's more than one state.

anujdeshpande··on Mongoose OS – An Open Source Operating System for the Internet of Things
A recent tweet that I found funny - "Every time a conf organizer accepts a talk about #IoT using JavaScript ... somewhere in the world an IoT/embedded developer ... dies !"[1].

On a serious note though - Does anyone know a mass manufactured product (based on a uController) that actually uses anything other than C/C++?

Rust is a strong contender too, surprised to not see it mentioned here. See an older discussion about Rust on ARM Cortex M[2]

anujdeshpande··on The End of Arduino 101: Intel Leaves Maker Market
I am very curious to see how this pans out - I badly want something like this to succeed. It will be so much more better for someone like me who works in this domain. Google has the weight to pull this off- and it looks like the SoM approach might be the right way forward (Particle, Electric Imp are good examples of managed hardware+software)

Having said that, there's a bigger market for micro controllers imo - which probably doesn't fit in to this strategy at all. There used to be Weave (RIP- which also makes one cautious about Android Things) - and there's Zephyr (kinda similar, but not really) - but no clear winners here yet.

anujdeshpande··on 18yo arrested for reporting a bug in the new Budapest e-Ticket system
Sounds a lot like what happens here in India [1].

Also, if such behaviour is systemic, how should we bring about the paradigm shift in handling such events? Such incidents will happen more often across the world as e-governance becomes more predominant.
