antinomicus··on A Brief History of Fish Sauce
Fish sauce is not supposed to be added to the point that you can taste the fishy taste, you do get that right? If you’ve added enough to impart fishy taste, you’ve added way too much.
antinomicus··on Claude Opus 4.7
This thread is very confusing. Everyone is saying diametrically opposed things. But I think this may be a clue: AWS bedrock means api billing, no? I’m guessing those complaining about the recently lowered quality of Claude are on subscriptions. And those who are still loving Claude are on work accounts.
antinomicus··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
I’ve done the same and included on the same server the equivalent for every type of media: tv shows, movies, ebooks, audiobooks, even YouTube through a sophisticated proxy rotation pool. I have rid myself of every awful enshittified platform and I finally feel free from the bullshit.

Check out audiomuse-ai on GitHub for an open source song vector space embedding system that allows clustering and traversing a huge graph of similar songs, giving you really smart playlists and radios. Smart local LLM playlists are included.

Now I’m on to building a layer to take my song data and use it to query a bunch of apis to allow for “your favorite bands are playing near you” feature that isn’t sponsored.

antinomicus··on AI got the blame for the Iran school bombing. The truth is more worrying
You seem to be ignoring the fact that the US should not be in this war at all. How people have already moved on from that to making monstrous posts like this makes me sick.
antinomicus··on Is playing music good for the brain?
Perhaps the commenter knows this and is just so adept at guitar that they play it in their sleep.
antinomicus··on LLM Writing Tropes.md
I’ve taken it one step further. YouTube as a front end is awful, and I’ve had enough. Tons of little dark patterns made to keep you on the site, annoying algorithms taking you places you never want to go, shitty ai slop, the whole nine yards. But I still like certain channels. As a result I’m doing everything self hosted now - not just YouTube but literally every single piece of digital media I consume. For YouTube I had to create a rotating pool of 5 residential ISP proxies - replaced as soon as YouTube download bot restrictions kick in - and rotated weekly either way.

With this I am able to get all my favorite subs onto my actual hard drive, with some extra awesome features as a result: I vibe coded a little helper app that lets me query the transcript of the video and ask questions about what they say, using cheap haiku queries. I can also get my subs onto my jellyfin server and be able to view it in there on any device. Even comments get downloaded.

All these streamers have gone too far trying to maximize engagement and have broken the social contract, so I see this as totally fair game.

antinomicus··on Claude Code's compaction discards data that's still on disk
My Claude code started doing the compaction summary link thing but then stopped pretty soon after.
antinomicus··on Advancing finance with Claude Opus 4.6
Do you really think you come off as a good person posting things like this? This place is to satisfy intellectual curiosity, not to lord your supposed intelligence over others, without even proving it exists in the first place.
antinomicus··on OpenClaw is what Apple intelligence should have been
No it’s like someone owning a Ferrari and looking down on someone who drives a Corolla. Or that’s how they see it, anyway. Plus there’s the annoyance with interoperability: it’s not just about status, it’s about all your iMessage group chats that don’t play nice with android
antinomicus··on In praise of –dry-run

antinomicus··on Autonomous cars, drones cheerfully obey prompt injection by road sign
This is a legitimate movement in my eyes. I don’t participate, but I see it as valid. This is reminiscent of the Luddite movement - a badly misunderstood movement of folks who were trying to secure labor rights guarantees in the face of automation and new tools threatening to kill large swaths of the workforce.
antinomicus··on Things I learned from burning myself out with AI coding agents
You, like most hacker news folks, likely are too rich to imagine the type of person who can’t spend hours every day learning a billion different difficult things. Some folks have to work menial jobs, take care of their kids, and fix their leaky roof themselves.
antinomicus··on Cowork: Claude Code for the rest of your work
The topic of the discussion is something that parents, grandmas, and non technical colleagues would realistically be able to use.
antinomicus··on Punkt. Unveils MC03 Smartphone
Re: media server. Yeah. I wish there was an alternative but the modern media landscape is so broken there is no other way to maintain digital copies of your shows and movies, while maintaining your own ability to curate your ow content on a plane that isn’t just another surface for those companies to drive engagement metrics. If you try to escape, you are forced into drm locked down Blu rays or even just shit out of luck in the case of a lot of direct to streaming tv. In which case you have two options, stay on the enshittification treadmill, taking more and more shit from bigass corporations who are actively poisoning the culture, or sail the seas. Or I guess just don’t watch tv. But I like tv.
antinomicus··on Warren Buffett steps down as Berkshire Hathaway CEO after six decades
Hacker news moment. If you believe this, you are lost, but man. What a terrible take.

Build what? The next big ad serving platform? The next mass surveillance platform? New ways to squeeze money out of people? You’re right we all die so nothing matters, why would what you build matter more than the relationships you make, the good feelings you create? Build, but build art. Build something that will change peoples minds, make them feel good, make them want to change the world.

Do not conflate building something to make some guy richer, as just as or more important than spending time with family or creating true art.

antinomicus··on AI will kill all the lawyers
Did you tell the LLM you were in New York though?
antinomicus··on The ultra-rich are claiming an increasing share of global wealth
Who paid you to make this comment? This is so unbelievably out of touch I have a hard time believing it is anything other than Astro turf.
antinomicus··on Ask HN: What are young technically minded people reading?
Do you believe in his ideas? I think the abundist philosophy is a fake moustache and a coat of paint on third way neoliberalism, which has proven time and again to have utterly failed as a political strategy in our current era. Ezra Klein’s ideas mostly feel tired, recycled, boring, outdated, and rudderless. We need true labor reform in this country, not less regulations and more trust in “altruistic developers”.
antinomicus··on Ask HN: Are there any viable Android phones for a power user to buy nowadays?
On the trackball requirement alone you’re SOL haha. Confusing request, given that pixel 4 doesn’t have one. I think you’d have to go way back to the nexus one for a trackball. I miss those days.
antinomicus··on Why are 38 percent of Stanford students saying they're disabled?
But adderall and vyvanse aren’t the same drug at all. You cannot directly compare dosages. 50mg of vyvanse is roughly equivalent to 20mg of adderall. As a prodrug, Vyvanse must be processed by the liver for it to function.

antinomicus··on Finding my rhythm again
“This is not the 1% I was hoping to eventually join”

Temporarily embarrassed billionaires, all of us. Much easier to believe that than try to find some class consciousness and solidarity, isn’t it?

antinomicus··on Rivian's TM-B electric bike
The article clearly states it’s class 3.
antinomicus··on Americans can't afford their cars any more and Wall Street is worried
Nope. This one out of all the comments in this thread screams out of touch tech guy. 80% of car purchases in America are financed. There are over 100 million car loans in America. Though in a more ideal world car loans should not be necessary, in this one, they very much are.
antinomicus··on [dead]
I’m honestly thinking he saw all the attention Elon got and wanted some for himself. For real - ten years ago if you asked anyone if they knew who Peter thiel was, maybe 4/10 would be able to tell you. But even among those 4 if you asked do you know what Peter thiel looks like they might all have shrugged. Now, at least to me, it seems like Thiel has decided to do interviews and public appearances like he never did before. And more and more people now know who he is and how crazy he is as a result. Not sure it’s had the effect he’s looking for.

I am so constantly confused by the level of greed and insanity these kinds of people reach. My theory is that once you are so divorced from the material world and what the value of anything is, your brain turns to mush.

antinomicus··on Fury Mounts over a Global A.I. Frenzy
Sure, that, plus the catastrophic cumulative effects of anthropogenic climate disruption, that will render large swaths of the planet uninhabitable, resulting in billions of climate refugees, that we’re likely already locked in / inevitably going to see in the not too distant future.
antinomicus··on iOS 26.1 lets users control Liquid Glass transparency
I just want to pile on, to any Apple engineers here that might have some say: PLEASE STOP with the Liquid Glass. My god, what an unbelievably stupid ‘feature’. Warren Buffett famously talked about how Apple is so valuable because their moat is so strong. That if you were to pay someone 10,000$ to switch from iPhones - they wouldn’t. No other brand is like this.

I was the same way, couldn’t pay me 10k to switch from my iPhone. For 10 years. Then, liquid ass came along and made me consider ditching Apple more seriously than I ever have. This redesign is apple’s most colossal failure of the last decade and I desperately hope they keep moving in the direction of rolling back these changes. It’s not just that everything is blurry and tinted. They made the buttons across the UI far less space efficient, widening and making cartoonish random elements that worked fine before. They added animations that slow down my iPhone 15 Pro and have tanked its battery life (don’t tell me it’s indexing either it’s been weeks!). They completely broke my “dumb phone” layout for my home screen by adding these incredibly ugly borders to everything.

Every day I curse myself for updating to this slop and for not quickly rolling back while they were still signing the old iOS. It is so unbelievably stupid that they decided to do this.
