anticrymactic··on Show HN: LLMs can generate valid JSON 100% of the time
I'm stupid with LLMs, but would it be possible to have this output with gpt4's intelligence, or would it have to be specifically trained?
anticrymactic··on Bypassing YouTube video download throttling
A LOT of things should be impossible for the website to tell. Focus, drm, mobile/Desktop

All (3) Browser engines are anti consumer spyware. There is no way to convince me otherwise. Why google and apple are not fixing this is obvious but Mozilla just keeps disappointing.

I'm desperately waiting for a Foss alternative.

anticrymactic··on Unsafe deserialization vulnerability in many Minecraft mods
Wow. How have I not realized this. Imagine something like this on vanilla. The implications would be incredible. From 1 player to the server to every client AND THEN to every other server the clients join and so on. I can imagine that only taking days for a majority takeover.

Something like the Samy worn

> have both thumbs in the same position.

Do you use both sticks at the same time? I think most games are left stick + buttons, meaning the Xbox would not only be symmetrical but also allow for a more relaxed extended thumb instead of the lower down ps position

anticrymactic··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
It is very difficult and the official docs are notoriously bad.

anticrymactic··on Ask HN: Why aren't modern programming languages, like Rust, more legible?
This is sarcastic right? I'm struggling to tell.

anticrymactic··on Discovering that a Bluetooth car battery monitor is siphoning location data
> There is no way for an iOS application to just say "turn on GPS" and be granted granular location access without user intervention.

Damn. Just like on Android.

The permission to always have location access(while closed) exists. Important for apps like Find My, etc.

But that has to be manually enabled per App in the settings. Apps can't even prompt for it, the location permission dialog only lets you allow usage while in the foreground. Also everytime your location is used in the background you get notified about it. So yeah, op either uses outdated android or enabled it manually.

There are enough dead "short" links on forums already.

anticrymactic··on Rarbg Is No More
To my knowledge, they didn't. There were a lot of imposter sites, which were indistinguishable, where you'd be told to download a VPN or similar. But the main .to site never opened any ads for me
anticrymactic··on YouTube Stories, Google’s clone of Snapchat, is dying on June 26
If your on Android, then look into revanced. A modded YT app on which you can remove everything you don't like
anticrymactic··on A Student-Loan Payment Pause Led Borrowers to Take on More Debt
> I would be a lot more for reducing the interest rate to 1% on all of these loans. You should not have money forgiven that you used [...]

Any reason why? Why should education be this expensive to begin with? Why make students work 2 jobs while having college?

Here in Germany we have a student loan model, where as long as your making progress in Uni, you get around 1.3k a month, only have to pay back at most 10k with 0%. Oh and if you pay all at once you can get up to 50% cheaper.

So why should students be forced into 30k dept with crazy interest rates, just because they wanted to study something?

Genuinely curious

anticrymactic··on YouTube, the jewel of the internet
You can use ReVanced and choose every "patch". For example only remove shorts and keep ads etc. That way the creator still get your premium compensation
anticrymactic··on 60M Americans have taxes so simple the IRS could do them automatically
> [The riots] haven't been incredibly violent or anything, a few people dead but not a lot.

This is unimaginable to me. I can only speak for Germany here, but there was a single death[1] in the last 25 years on a protests. I'm so sorry for everyone living in America.

anticrymactic··on Folia – Multithreading Coming to your Minecraft server
I have thought about this a lot already and basically came to exact same conclusion with the "bubble" system.

But don't the bubbles have to tick at the same time to be 100% vanilla? They still compute their ticks independently but only "roll over" together. Which would still increase performance extremely, don't get me wrong. But will not stop lag machines, since global mspt would be the min of all bubble mspt's. Although it would make tracking lag generation a lot easier.

anticrymactic··on Push notifications are now supported cross-browser
Yes that is what he's saying. It's also the truth and the only reason every social media forced you to use the app.
anticrymactic··on Show HN: Public transportation signage based on bloom filters (rough mockup)
I don't understand the advantage of this system. If you have to look up the "seed" of the route, why not just look it up on DB and get the platform number for every stop?
anticrymactic··on Show HN: Public transportation signage based on bloom filters (rough mockup)
In Germany, Google Maps is essentially useless for public transport. There is an app by Deutsche though Bahn which routes pretty much perfectly. Speaking of, I don't understand the problem this system would be solving, because you already get a list of platform numbers for your route
anticrymactic··on Emitting Safer Rust with C2Rust
What problem does c2Rust solve exactly? Isn't it just gonna produce "garbage" rust.

Calling c directly is already possible in rust.
