anticodon··on How people reason their way through echo chambers and what might guide them out
Except for that large Nordstream 2 pipeline with Russia.

Without that pipeline, Europe (or Germany) would collapse. Germany needs that pipe because it needs energy for the industry and maybe to some extent because it destroyed it own energy system earlier (e.g. closing nuclear powerstations).

Yes, it is the only case where Europe did something that contradicted orders of the Big Brother. But it's similar to the the situation where one person tells another to jump of the cliff: if you jump off the cliff you're dead anyway, so most people would disobey in this situation even under heavy pressure.

I know three languages and before I've tried to read news in different languages to get supposedly "more complete" picture.

I've abandoned this approach completely after 06/01 when the next day I went to read news from EU and they were repeating word to word the same BS as American news.

I understand that USA population is brainwashed and all their media are under tight control. But I was hoping that this situation would be portrayed from a different angle at least from another countries.

In the end it just proves two things I've believed before:

1) USA controls almost all of the world media

2) Europe is a colony of the USA that cannot make any independent free choice - it just does what is ordered by the USA

anticodon··on World War 3 to Be Fought over Semiconductors?
Oil/gas are basic necessities. Without oil and gas it is impossible to continue a war, to feed the population (fertilizers are made from oil and gas, tractors run on oil), to make electricity for the industry and population, to warm houses during winter. Even "green" energy cannot exist without fossil fuels.

30-40 years ago the world wasn't so dependent on semiconductors. If all the semiconductor factories would be destroyed now, it won't be end of the world. They're not required to survive. I'd easily survive the winter without laptop and smartphone. But without heating it would be impossible.

anticodon··on Soviets put out a burning gas well with a nuclear explosion (1966) [video]
These tests by and large ended up radiating populations and not telling them.

Proof? It was an underground explosion in a very sparsely populated location. How exactly and whom it ended up radiating?

anticodon··on Why has the price of electricity in Europe reached record highs?
Then you must also remember that it was Poland that allied with Hitler before anyone else, in hope that Germany will help it to attack Russia. But Hitler had other plans.

Why you always forget about this part of the history? I guess it's not illustrated well in your media blaming Russia for all of your miseries.

anticodon··on Why has the price of electricity in Europe reached record highs?
I do wonder how much our gas import from Russia is helping us keep the peace.

I'm really afraid that high gas prices would be the tipping point when US and EU would turn from funding internal revolution in Russia (figures like Navalny) to a hot war.

Europe always needed and wanted our resources. Just read German documents from WWII: only part of it was hatred and desire to genocide Russians. The most serious motivation was to plunder Russian natural resources.

We don't need Europe. We have the largest country on Earth. We have all the natural resources we need. I'm tired of all this EU/US bullshit of "Russian aggression". Especially coming from a country that is eternally at war with all the world (USA).

anticodon··on Google, Apple remove Navalny app from stores as Russian elections begin
Yes, I've traveled almost everywhere in Russia, and some regions are poor. But even poorest of Russian regions are richer than Georgia. And this discrepancy will increase, not in favor of Georgia.
anticodon··on Google, Apple remove Navalny app from stores as Russian elections begin
What it should prove? Where exactly should I look?

Well, it's kind of obvious, that Georgia is poverty-stricken country. It's possible to visit Georgia for anyone. Millions of tourists from Russia visits Georgia every year. We can see that there's extreme poverty in Georgia everywhere. Unemployment, energy shortage, lack of future perspectives. These problems will get only worse due to COVID-19 and global energy crisis (Georgia doesn't possess significant fossil fuels deposits, it has to import everything from abroad).

To call a mafia-state, a freedom is delusional.

I didn't use the word "freedom". There's no ideology in the current Russia, unfortunately. Neithr good, nor bad.

I guess you're from Ukraine (sorry, if I'm wrong). If anything, Ukraine is much closer to mafia-state than Russia. Corruption in Ukraine is so high now, that even presidents of EU country alert their citizens to avoid doing any business with Ukraine.

It's like slaves fighting for the right to be enslaved.

Why are we slaves? I'm free to go anywhere. I'm free to say anything in my country. I can say that Putin is bad. I can say that Putin is good. There will be no repercussions in both cases. Unlike in "free" Ukraine, where it is forbidden by law to speak Russian, for example.

Also, you fail to see how US and EU betrayed Ukraine. They don't need "free" Ukraine, although elections are a perfect way to control their puppets: if a puppet attempts to do something unpleasant, there's easy way for US, controlling all the media, to choose another, more conformable, puppet. This is why "democracy" and "elections" are of utmost importance to US in the third-world countries. Easy way to install comprador puppets.

They need Ukraine which they can plunder (via e.g. Burisma Holdings). They need Ukraine that doesn't compete on the global markets with EU and USA, so they destroyed all the industry in Ukraine (it's impossible to deny that). They need a source cheap labour - hence tens of millions of Ukrainians are doing poorly paid jobs in Europe.

That's the freedom I should wish for? No, thanks, take it back, please.

Ukraine is by no means "destroyed," it is reinvigorated, it's renewed.

In all areas of life, it's position severly declined since 1991 and especially after coup of 2014.

Population is rapidly declining.

Industry is destroyed. Shipbuilding, aviation construction is dead. As almost all other industry areas.

Corruption is all time high (even EU leaders openly say this).

What is reinvigorated, renewed? The next step is selling lumber and even the earth itself to the West. Both options are already discussed (maybe even approved already, I don't really follow news from Ukraine).

Are you perhaps a Putinist?

I'm and I don't see anything wrong with it. He saved Russia from the eventual collapse where it was led by Gorbachev, Yeltsin and their western puppeteers. I'm very grateful to him for that.

anticodon··on Google, Apple remove Navalny app from stores as Russian elections begin
That's a huge misconception. But I guess it would be better for Russia if you continue to live in your dreams.
anticodon··on Google, Apple remove Navalny app from stores as Russian elections begin
Never seen that Brin stated he's patriot of Russia. Do you have any proofs?

Besides, arm who? Arm us, Russians to do what? Destroy our own country like e.g. Ukraine did?

So that western corporations destroy all the industry (suppress competition and create bigger market for western goods), destroy even agriculture (US and EU farmers would be happy to supply their food to a new market, keeping agriculture production in neo-colonies is not necessary)?

It all already happened in Ukraine, Georgia, to some lesser extent in Balitc states and Eastern Europe.

I really hope that our people are not stupid to fall into this trap.

anticodon··on Google, Apple remove Navalny app from stores as Russian elections begin
Do you expect Google to go partisan war against Russian government?

Google already does this. It promotes opposition and western propaganda in the search results and YouTube.

If you're Russian and just register on YouTube, for the first few weeks you'll be flooded with videos of Navalny and his cronies.

It's also currently building 35 nuclear reactors around the world.

anticodon··on Record number of environmental activists murdered
Since your predicating information is false then whatever conspiracy theory you’re implying probably isn’t true.

Halocarbons are heavier than air, they cannot travel up to stratosphere which is 10 to 50 km up in the air. Which is predicating information about why CFCs were bad.

If a few companies made money from it that’s fine. It would be great if we could tie a profit motive to fixing climate change.

Exactly. Both ozone depletion theory and current climate change theory are making rich countries richer and poor countries poorer. Which brings the question: maybe it's actually the point of these theories?

USA cannot end the trade deficit. USA is a parasite on the world economy: it prints dollars and buys everything it needs with a pieces of paper (or zeros and ones in some bank computer).

Unlike almost all other countries in the world, where they have to work hard with their hands and brains to get something. USA printed more trillions only in the last year, that China - country that provides all the world, including US, with clothes, electronics and just about everything else - managed to save in the last 20 years.

This position is incredibly profitable for the USA, but it needs the largest military power to maintain status quo, because all the other countries understand they're being ripped off. And this military power immediately kills anyone who renounce use of dollar for trade (see Iraq, Libya).

If USA will end trade deficit somehow, it would mean that it would be on par with other countries, and population of USA would have to reduce its consumption of goods and resources by 15-20x. It will be the end of USA, most probably civil war and collapse.

anticodon··on FBI releases 9/11 investigation document that scrutinized Saudis
More like Saudi Arabia could be the next target for the US attack.

Reason is simple: it possesses large deposits of fossil fuel but spends "too much" (from American point of view in the world with rapidly declining energy resources) for internal consumption.

By bombing Saudi Arabia, killing millions and destroying infrastructure (e.g. oil-fired power plants), USA will reduce consumption of fossil fuels by Saudi Arabia and leave more for export to the US.

anticodon··on Canada aims to block Chelsea Manning from entering country
Wikipedia is not 100% reliable and universal source of truth. Besides, he was a leader of the SS battalion and he got Iron Cross for his war crimes from nazies. Does such a person deserve a monument in Canada?
anticodon··on Canada aims to block Chelsea Manning from entering country
He joined the nazi forces, infamous Schutzstaffel (SS) during WW2. He participated in killing tens of thousands of Jews (and Russians, but that doesn't count in the western world anymore).

He isn't guilty by association - he was a leader of death squadron and he is directly responsible for extermination of tens of thousands of non combatants.

He's not the only one. I read about him recently that's why I was able to remember his name. There were/are others like him.

Even more, in Canada there're memorials dedicated to nazi war criminals, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Shukhevych

anticodon··on How long can a democracy maintain emergency limits and still call itself free?
How is voting and free speech are any more relevant in the world where:

1. You're followed all the time, your gadgets spy on you, you're translating your geo position and your correspondence all the time to Google, Facebook, Apple.

2. Your only sources of information are either Google results that are obviously rigged, or social network posts which are also rigged. Owners of FAANG has their own political views that they impose on all the users of the networks. Traditional media are not as influential as before, but they also belong to a very small circle of stakeholders with their own agenda.

anticodon··on Tupolev Tu-144: The Soviets' doomed rival to Concorde (2017)
I know Ukraine got the shorter stick

I don't think so. It's probably a propaganda of the new independent Ukraine government since 1991. Many of my relatives are stuck on Ukraine now because they moved there during USSR times because life there was better. They'd be happy to return to Russia, but they're old and they are citizens of Ukraine and if they sell their property in Ukraine, they'd be unable to buy real estate in Russia, so it's almost impossible for them to return. And they regret that dearly because of politics of nazism and poor state of economy.

Not all republics in USSR were equal, but differences weren't as big as they're now. And contrary to what current propaganda says, most prosperous republics were Baltic republics and Georgia. USSR was investing a lot of money in those republics to buy loyalty. You can find numbers in the USSR statistics. For example, USSR paid more for milk from farmers in Baltic republics than it cost in the grocery shops.

It was a big mistake to invest in those countries. Now they hate us the most despite all that effort and money poured there by Russia.

anticodon··on Tupolev Tu-144: The Soviets' doomed rival to Concorde (2017)
This is true for absolutely any world leader. I doubt that Hoover was starving during Great Depression. It's an unfair appeal to emotions: no matter how much or how little Stalin ate, it wouldn't solve hunger problem of the entire country.
anticodon··on Tupolev Tu-144: The Soviets' doomed rival to Concorde (2017)
But - I'm no "Sovietologist", so do enlighten me if I'm wrong about this!

and though it too was stratified (to bureaucrats with country Dacha's etc.)

It wasn't so stratified to mention it explicitly. Everyone had more or less the same lifestyle. And many had Dacha's, not just bureaucrats. Also, if you'd seen those dachas...

E.g. four years ago I visited Stalin's dacha on the lake Ritsa. I'd say that average house of the current Russian middle class is much bigger and more luxurious than Stalin's dacha. And he was the leader of the USSR.
