antegamisou··on What happened to Apple's legendary attention to detail?
> tales of technological ingenuity are mostly just an attempt to invent some romantic lore around stolen designs.

This is a biased take. One can make a similar and likely more factual claim about the US , where largely every innovation in many different disciplines is dictated and targeted for use by the war industry.

And while there were many low quality knockoff electronics, pre-collapse USSR achieved remarkable feats in many different disciplines the US was falling behind at.

antegamisou··on Wikipedia says traffic is falling due to AI search summaries and social video
The forcing factors aren't what they are supposed to be though. "Credible" sources and citations are exclusively up to the article moderators personal tastes which are very rarely objective.
antegamisou··on LLMs can get "brain rot"
Omg you mean everyone's becoming an insufferable Redditor?
antegamisou··on Wikipedia says traffic is falling due to AI search summaries and social video
Sounds like you're either a Wikipedia landlord or don't use it for anything other than STEM articles.

antegamisou··on ChatGPT Atlas
Doing so still forces me to do a linear conversational format, and it just isn't functional.

So A"I" isn't I... huh, who would've thought.

antegamisou··on LLMs can get "brain rot"
My Goodness, looks like Computer 'Science' is a complete euphemism now.
antegamisou··on OpenAI researcher announced GPT-5 math breakthrough that never happened
Seriously those headlines are getting DailyMail sensationalism levels of ridiculous.
antegamisou··on Modern Linux tools
Sounds like a skill issue.
antegamisou··on Modern Linux tools
I find the opposite to be true. Most of these are really just reinventing the wheel of foundational GNU tools that are really powerful provided one has spent some time on them.
antegamisou··on Microsoft only lets you opt out of AI photo scanning 3x a year
I agree with you but there's nothing astonishing about any of this unfortunately, it was bound to happen. Almost all of cautionary statements about AI abuse fall on deaf ears of HN's overenthusiastic and ill-informed rabble, stultified by YC tech lobbyists.
antegamisou··on Daniel Kahneman opted for assisted suicide in Switzerland
Why does one have to pay an extraordinary amount for it then? Does all money go to the facilities and the staff? (which mind you by law isn't mandated to consist of physicians)

Again:

Yes, it's "illegal" but it's effectively nulled if the means to it are made legal.

antegamisou··on Daniel Kahneman opted for assisted suicide in Switzerland
Euthanasia in Switzerland ^ has been a notorious profitable practice for years, compared to the Netherlands where it's almost exclusively practiced on those with terminal debilitating disease.

^ Yes, it's "illegal" but it's effectively nulled if the means to it are made legal.

antegamisou··on Show HN: I invented a new generative model and got accepted to ICLR
Obsolete academia etiquette.
antegamisou··on We Won't Be Missed: Work and Growth in the Era of AGI [pdf]
This is easily the case for most laypeople, in my experience at least. Plenty of people fairly taken aback by GenAI's capabilities, some of them have genuinely expressed concern for human intelligence extinction very soon.
antegamisou··on Is life a form of computation?
I think the notion largely boils down to another dogmatic display of tech industry's megalomania.
antegamisou··on DeepMind and OpenAI win gold at ICPC
Make that shit cure cancer/disease and abstain from that modern Space race equivalent BS ffs.
antegamisou··on FFglitch, FFmpeg fork for glitch art
Yeah and while I can relate to your first sentiment, it's still infinitely better than some AI slop like this generative music shit that is currently at the top of the frontpage.
antegamisou··on The maths you need to start understanding LLMs
> 'If I were better at math, I would have been better AI researcher

This is the first time I've seen someone claim this. I don't if it's display of anti-intellectualism or plain ignorance. Otoh, most AI/ML papers' quality has deteriorated so much over the years, publications in different venues are essentially beautified PyTorch notebook by people who just play around randomly with different parameters.

antegamisou··on AI surveillance should be banned while there is still time
Don't be hesitant to suggest that YC loves too funding questionable ideas all the time.
antegamisou··on The maths you need to start understanding LLMs
> attempt to derail people into low level math when that is not the crux of the question at all.

Is the barrier to entry to the ML/AI field really that low? I think no one seasoned would consider fundamental linear algebra 'low level' math.

antegamisou··on The maths you need to start understanding LLMs
Find someone on HN that doesn't trivialize fundamental math yet encourages everyone to become a PyTorch monkey that ends up having no idea why their models are shite: impossible.
antegamisou··on I Am An AI Hater
> It was no ChatGPT he was talking about

As if it's in any way less horrifying having the entire Internet infested with AI slop.

antegamisou··on IQ tests results for AI
Saved me a click, thanks.
antegamisou··on IQ tests results for AI
> You might feel that the racism is scientifically justified, but that belief is controversial.

Sir, this is HN, we love junk science and Sam Altman.

antegamisou··on A mind–reading brain implant that comes with password protection
Carefully re-read the parent comment, I never wrote what you've accused me of.
antegamisou··on A mind–reading brain implant that comes with password protection
So it's still not unsettling to you they came up with something that is actually capable of reading your very private thoughts. You're aware the potentially secondary password protection isn't what made this feasible, aren't you.
antegamisou··on I avoid using LLMs as a publisher and writer
Idk, LLM writing style somehow almost always ends up sounding like an insufferable smartass Redditor spiel. Maybe it's only appealing to the respective audience.
antegamisou··on Springer Nature book on machine learning is full of made-up citations
Understandably I'm becoming a bit dogmatic but I'll say it again, AIMA/PRML/ESL are still the best reference textbooks for foundational AI/ML and will be for a long time.

AIMA is Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig

PRML is Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning by Christopher Bishop.

ESL is Elements of Statistical Learning by Trevor Hastie, Robert Tibshirani and Jerome Friedman.

antegamisou··on Zuckerberg's Grand Vision: Most of Your Friends Will Be AI
It's really just a political statement, he's saying that you better get accustomed to being overworked that you'd only have time for parasocial relationships like these AI absurdities they're coming up with.
