anonzzzies··on Don't be a meat proxy
Yeah, I just ignore people who do that. I don’t care what Claude or ChatGPT said. If you cannot be arsed to write yourself then I cannot be arsed to read it.
anonzzzies··on Rear center fuel tank adds roughly 20k liters and extends range by 1k NM
Many of colleagues do this all the time, usually via the Middle East. I did it before; it sucks but with enough gin tonic and melatonin it goes by in with too much pain.
anonzzzies··on Dubious research tied to Red Bull has shaped energy drink policy
Coffee makes me sleepy, for instance.
anonzzzies··on Astronauts describe persistent 'observer' sensation after 6 month missions
I used to have this just on earth after having a stroke. I had it for years and then it suddenly disappeared.
anonzzzies··on Our position on open-weights models
Banning hardware is helping China in the long run though. And long is not actually very long. They will beat 'the west' (even though they are all made in the east now) in semiconductors because of this nonsense within 50 years. And also in AI capabilities. Making capable adversaries more competitive and angry is often not really a great strategy.
anonzzzies··on ARC-AGI Leaderboard
I still enjoy the symbolic ai space. Any examples of interesting progress there?
anonzzzies··on No Stack Overflow, No Autocomplete: What Coding Felt Like in the 80s
I memorized the z80 instruction in hex and would code Basic and data 3E, 15, CD, 00, C0, etc just as if it was readable and wrote many games with that. It was nice income for a 10 year old kid in the 80s and even better after. It does slightly suck more now, but AI does help making it similar; focus on the important parts, not this garbage around it.
anonzzzies··on Elevated Errors for Opus 5
So many companies have shitloads of downtime and do not compensate. Usually they blame you if they can.
anonzzzies··on ARC-AGI Leaderboard
> you could do the same back then with multiple models and more targeted finetuning

Are you one of those anonymous billionaires as if you did this a few years ago, you would've been famous and rich.

anonzzzies··on Nothing works and everyone is euphoric
Haha yeah, Uber, Amazon, Starlink, Hotels etc just send me stuff or refund without even asking anything. I use all of them all the time for everything; that indeed seems to help. Logical of course.
anonzzzies··on If coding has been solved, why does software keep getting worse?
That is definitely needed. On Mac it is really infuriating how stuff (auto update etc) just take focus/pop up crap. I am literally never interested in it and am confused why I cannot just say [x] Force apps to mind their own business. We have f’ing notifications for this; why does it need a dialog window?
anonzzzies··on Show HN: Echo – Fable-level results at 1/3 the cost using open-weight models
All companies we interact with have 200 plans.
anonzzzies··on Show HN: Echo – Fable-level results at 1/3 the cost using open-weight models
We see no difference between opus 4.8 and fable except that fable is slower. So +1 for not just GP. We use neither interactive, just via our own tooling so the ‘talk to’ doesn’t apply and we use it 24/7. We currently run 25% of tasks on both fable and opus and the rest only opus. The 25% are being code reviewed side by side and we do detect when fable switches to opus for ‘security concerns’ nonsense. Opus generally finishes sooner, results are similar quality.
anonzzzies··on Businesses with ugly AI menu redesigns
Yeah... The "Authentic Indian" curry house in my town replaced everything with AI. So the food really doesn't look like whatever they are serving. This was an issue always with plastic / pro photographed food, but now it costs nothing and it immediately jumps out as definitely not authentic.
anonzzzies··on China’s open-weights AI strategy is winning
... for AI... which people have to convince themselves they 'need'. I am a user, I have a 1m$ rack for my small company for AI, but I have currently 189 racks that cost about 15k one off per rack. And those make us a LOT more money than the AI ones ; most are departmental apps or websites that take very little processing power and are low on everything while people pay nice money to keep them going. Our support is better than the rest; you can just call me or come to my house and we'll do something. Not many clients leave, ever. For the past 30 years. I buy 5-10 year old servers which are complete overkill for 99% of my clients (some are fortune 500 companies but departmental stuff) and they just never leave. Makes vastly more money than AI and we are still cheaper than AWS and the department does not have to get a flexible budget (like they would have to if AWS) with us. We just have the same fixed price + yearly inflation correction and that's it. For 30 years.
anonzzzies··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
They are not stopping either.
anonzzzies··on How proprietary formats have become Microsoft’s main tool for lock-in
This has always been the case , for most companies, but MS is very well known for it. Play along until you have enough market share and then break things in undocumented ways.
anonzzzies··on EU ban on destruction of unsold clothes and shoes enters into application
I see that when you don’t know what is in there then sure, but we don’t have that issue. No lead or asbestos or fiber glass. Otherwise men in white suits arrive anyway.
anonzzzies··on Qwen 3.8
Works extremely well for us. I never know what other people are doing when we read these stories.
anonzzzies··on EU ban on destruction of unsold clothes and shoes enters into application
we fill anything that needs filling: the ground here is very uneven with massive rocks so you need to fill to even, you can empty containers of crap other people give away or pay a fortune.
anonzzzies··on EU ban on destruction of unsold clothes and shoes enters into application
I reuse everything from remodels. Seems a shame to throw out always. And other skips are getting bought by others to use in their building projects.
anonzzzies··on Lobste.rs is now running on SQLite
Not sure if this is SQLite or driver/Rails issues? We use it for sites and systems with a lot more (but similar) traffic and have no issues; we did write the drivers we use ourselves (for Node) as we got into much issues with the popular/existing ones.
anonzzzies··on Decoy Font
I see people saying you have to squint to see the hidden text : I only see the hidden text, wether I squint or not.
anonzzzies··on Decoy Font
I only see the hidden text, not the decoy. I am colorblind but there are no colors; probably has something to do with it though.
anonzzzies··on GrapheneOS recommended for domestic abuse victims
GrapheneOS and others should have lobbyists or rather lawyers and lawmakers to fight for using secure systems to mandatory be allowed for these. Sure, there must be some type of OS guarantee, but that should not be exclusive to Google and Apple. And indeed browsers with otp/authn devices (not one per service but yubi/thetis type of thing as those can be made sovereign for a large part); when an OS is not allowed, the browser and app should be mandatory allowed with such a device as that is, actually, more secure than the original device as it is an external encryption and encryption key source the hacker cannot reach.
anonzzzies··on Making 768 servers look like 1
I did not say there is no market, but I am willing to bet whatever that the majority of your client base would be much cheaper off with a simple setup where they can scale the entirety of their company’s existence with one machine. Not even a large one. This cloud stuff has its place but not for most. For them it’s either themselves overspending or wasting VC money.
anonzzzies··on Your 'app' could have been a webpage (so I fixed it for you)
I have been in business for 30 years. That helps. We don't overgrow or over hype and we discourage people who just want to overload things; we like boring companies with a lot of revenue / profit that run boring things like ERP, CRM, dashboards, LoB apps etc. And those companies just keep buying ; especially Vibe LoBbing makes for departments within companies churning out tons of apps they need to host somewhere.
anonzzzies··on Your 'app' could have been a webpage (so I fixed it for you)
My lovely clients!
anonzzzies··on Making 768 servers look like 1
Well, they are selling this thing so they don't want you to buy a big server (with a read replica) as that's much cheaper.
anonzzzies··on Your 'app' could have been a webpage (so I fixed it for you)
I love hosting and I will never stop doing it. I keep buying servers (second hand; almost no one actually needs the latest) and hosting 1000s of companies.
