annasaru··on Yale censored a student's course catalog site. I made an unblockable replacement
School owns the data. But students are the data consumers, and hence have a right to control how it's presented and consumed. And students are also customers. What is the school afraid of.
annasaru··on OpenBSD will shut down if we do not have the funding to keep the lights on
Done. Reading this is sad.
annasaru··on AMD launches Kaveri processors aimed at starting a computing revolution
Nice name. A majestic river in South India.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaveri
annasaru··on Dijkstra on Haskell and Java (2001)
If my Apple II booted into Eclipse, I'd have gone into cinematography.

That's an awesome punchline.

annasaru··on 24th Birthday: What it’s like to be 24 for a Software Engineer in India
Sorry If I came across as being harsh - but you are that 0.1% minority in India, that wants/dares to be an entrepreneur.

Your courage, and determination to try to break away from the suffocating conventions around you - I applaud you.

annasaru··on 24th Birthday: What it’s like to be 24 for a Software Engineer in India
India is an English speaking country, and made its name writing software. (in modern times).

Yet you use the term "softwares" - learn some grammar first - especially when it comes to your identity as a software engineer. Or are you a 'softwares engineer'?

If you are curious, I studied in Chattisgarh, India.

annasaru··on 24th Birthday: What it’s like to be 24 for a Software Engineer in India
I think the outsourcing industry has killed tech entrepreneurship in India. I have checked with many 24-30 year olds, and all of them are doing the same grind for some outsourced project.

But 98% of US population, or 90% maybe - have never heard of github either.
annasaru··on IntelliJ IDEA 13 is Released
I had unrealistic expectations of this IDE... Some of the current enhancements are nice (Search anywhere, for example).. The favorite theme they tout (Darcula) is not yet upto Sublime's theme, IMO. Somehow it feels gratuitously helpful-- and I can't accuse it of getting in the way (an easy trap to fall into). When it came to Python, I could not stand Pycharm - which uses the kernel from the java Idea-IDE. (disclosure: when i code Python I use emacs, idle, or Wing Ide). So there is something in its DNA that I end up tolerating - but am not crazy about. edit: I ran away from eclipse - that atrocity, so Idea was a refugee camp.
annasaru··on Qatar: Abolish Exit Visas for Migrant Workers
For a migrant worker, it won't be surprising if the passport is deposited with the Employer at the time of joining work. I don't speak from personal experience, but from anecdotes I heard from friends and extended family. So even if there isn't an exit visa required, they don't have the passport, which means they can only travel with permission of their employer. A modern form of slavery.
annasaru··on Tessel: The end of web development as we know it
Good arguments. We had silverlight, and Adobe Air / Flex that may or may not have been trying to displace JS - but they were ways to program in the Browser. Sure they were put forward as solutions by companies that had an agenda.

Such a language also is dependent on HTML-standards.

We should see interpreters for other languages written in JS - or is that far fetched?

annasaru··on Facebook is doomed
This author likes to make wordy predictions and kick up a buzz. That allows him to maintain his 'opinion leader' status. He doesn't have much of real substance to say..
annasaru··on Snowden granted 1-year asylum in Russia, leaves airport
Many people believe we are (sooner or later) approaching a 1984-style dystopia.. So that may not be fear mongering, depending on who you talk to.
annasaru··on Inappropriate comments at pycon 2013 called out
From what the guy has said (one of the two guys), there was no warning, no complaint at the time. Just a picture taken. This lady had a size-able twitter audience that she tried to exploit. So it was unfair to the male who got let go for what seems a very minor thing.
annasaru··on City of Munich disagrees with HP's Linux migration study
Microsoft FUD. HP doesn't have any opinions of its own. If it was sponsored or conducted by Microsoft, why do we even bother ? That company is still hallucinating, pretending its still in a Windows world
