anhner··on The Native File System API allows web apps to save directly to files
more like "you won't have a choice but to always use the newest version of the app"

does this really need to be reposted every day? [1]

anhner··on WebBundles harmful to content blocking, security tools, and the open web
So what does that solve? It will still load the whole bundle before it can do anything
anhner··on In spite of an increase in Internet speed, webpage speeds have not improved
Sounds like you mostly had experience with old style server side development (like php with no frameworks maybe?)

Have you tried building an app with a more modern framework, like Phoenix or Blazor? You won't even need to write a single line of javascript. All business logic is on the server (no duplication of models) an can be easily testable.

In my experience, SPAs tend to get overly complex, and they mix (and duplicate) business logic with UI logic.

anhner··on The iPad's new cursor and keyboard
"The iPad is the most versatile computer that Apple makes" ??

Bro, I can't even run extensions in my browser. Not to mention the other things you can only do on a real computer. It brings nothing except for touch, but loses a lot of things.

anhner··on Google Play has been spreading advanced Android malware for years
If an app's function requires location, how is it Apple's fault that the user decides it's better to enable that app to spy on him? If I use Waze do I expect privacy from it when it's essential that it knows my location?

Furthermore, on iPhone you get a warning when an app abuses the location permission, unlike Android.

At least on iPhones you have per app control, on Android it's either "location on" or "location off"

anhner··on Age, Sex, Existing Conditions of Covid-19 Cases and Deaths
I don't understand your first argument. Surely increasing the denominator would lower the mortality percent?

Also does the total number of infected not include the dead?

Well that's one piece of software I'm never going to use. I can't even browse their site without creating an account. I presume I also need an account in order to use the software. No thanks.
anhner··on Reasons not to become famous
I read "no photo" as "paid not to have their photo included"
anhner··on In a First, US Doctors Use Crispr Tool to Treat Patient with Genetic Disorder
I would guess that people would try and replicate their results and end up hurting themselves, for one.

If you truly think other apples/potatoes serve no purpose, I feel sorry for you.
anhner··on A tale of how Google tried to win against Mozilla
I consider that a feature. If I go to youtube.com with firefox, it means that I intentionally want to avoid opening the app, so I don't want every video I click on in firefox to open with the youtube app.

However, I think there was an option to have it enabled if you wish to.

anhner··on A Story About Piracy
What the author didn't (and couldn't) include in their calculations is how many of those that bought the fourth book were hooked in the series BECAUSE they pirated the book(s).

How many sales would she have had if there were absolutely no copies available online for free for any of the books?

I admit, I pirated when I was young because I didn't have any money and many books weren't available in my country (or would only become available after some years). Now that I have money and I'm into reading, I spend a lot more on books than I would have if reading wasn't available to me.
