angryasian··on Ask HN: What are your favorite conspiracy theories?
lol , well from the downvotes, you can see its an unpopular conspiracy
angryasian··on Ask HN: Do you still use email?
The overall issue with Slack is that a channel that gets busy, you lose all context, and the decision becomes do I want to scroll back to figure it out, or just ignore it. I'd much rather prefer email. As people tend be more succinct and focus more on writing and summarizing, than just be a trail of thoughts.
angryasian··on Ask HN: What are your favorite conspiracy theories?
A president of the united states, tried to invalidate the elections and coordinated attacks on the US govt. He got away with it.

angryasian··on Generating more interesting image previews using imagemagick
Great article, this is the content I come here for. I think its a really interesting thought experiment in how we might want to try things differently. Also thanks for sharing your experience with imagemagick and code.
angryasian··on Don’t buy the fearmongering: The Covid-19 threat is waning
this article is clickbait. Most cities and states are opening everything back up. I see the opposite occurring.
angryasian··on [dead]
so you're quitting because they didn't allow political issues to be talked about at work. ok.
angryasian··on Apple reportedly expanding iMessage to compete with Facebook
yeah, I really don't see a majority of apple users ever leaving the apple ecosystem because imessage is supported on Android and vice versa. What I do see is that Android users that aren't part of the apple ecosystem at all using it and now Apple has their foot in the door with these users.
angryasian··on Stanford study: Covid-19 fatality rate ~0.15%
over 200m doses administered in the US. Its fine.
angryasian··on Finally reached 2k MRR on an iOS app I built
Great job. Keep it up. out of curiosity how are you charging ? like a subscription ?
angryasian··on Fairphone suggests Qualcomm is the biggest barrier to long-term Android support
>the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.

They have exclusive possession or control of supply of these types of chips. I'm not sure if the question of whether or not they could sell or want to sell it comes into question. Lets say I buy up all the supplies of diamonds and exclude the use of diamonds in any other use than my jewelry. I believe this still falls under a monopoly

angryasian··on Fairphone suggests Qualcomm is the biggest barrier to long-term Android support
Ok an oligopoly, does that make it better. Apple has a monopoly on Apple silicon.
angryasian··on Herd Immunity Is Near, Despite Fauci’s Denial
hmmm.. Fauci or a doctor that is a writer pseudo celebrity MD. He may be correct, he may not be.. but ill take the side of caution.
angryasian··on Living Like It's 99, No Social Media, No Smartphone
I find texting to be one of the worst forms of communication for anything other than short Q&A type communication. Maybe writing letters is a lost art form, like in the past but this was out of necessity more than anything. Emoji's don't replace hearing of a person's voice or reactions to what a person is saying.

Text is too often misconstrued and again emoj's don't solve this problem. The fact that emoji speak even exists is really odd to me, but I guess thats an "ok boomer" for me.

angryasian··on Living Like It's 99, No Social Media, No Smartphone
Thats really interesting to me as a gen x'er. Grew up largely before the internet was a thing. I'm in the complete opposite opinion. I find face chat to be intrusive and too intimate. For what could simply handled over voice, no need to see my face or surroundings.

We live largely on zoom these days, and less and less people have their cameras on and they are more like voice calls. I really don't see the difference between this and a phone call

angryasian··on In 2020, two thirds of Google searches ended without a click
Yahoo, MySpace, Geocities were all top 5 global properties at one point. Spotify crushed several music related services like Pandora, napster, maybe even Apple Music. Dating sites theres a few as in Match, okCupid have largely been displaced.

>Most of Google's users weren't using search engines when Google was created.

I really don't know about your assessment about Facebook but I'd fundamentally disagree, as in the beginning they were capturing the college aged to young professionals. I'd say they fundamentally grew off the back of MySpace users. Myspace was huge and everyone had a page at the time.

Google was a little different as they did help to define and create this space of web indexing, as a lot of early search pages were more directories and portals.

angryasian··on In 2020, two thirds of Google searches ended without a click
Monopolies are a barrier to entry. I don't think any of google's products prevent that. As we see in most technology over the last 20 years, the companies at the top can change fast.

A company that creates a better search engine, will easily take over search. Next gen of search will be better at providing more relevant / less spam

Youtube does have some network effect and high costs but not enough to stop anyone from competing and vc money evens out the costs. Next gen in video may offer more features, or for a completely different platform like VR

The only platform I do see them having a strong ability to block out potential competition would be mobile and Android.

angryasian··on Ask HN: Help, I'm in a pivotal negotiation and I'm not sure what to do
Is this allowing them full licensing in perpetuity ?

Do you have any approximate numbers as to how many users they are expecting ?

I think you need to evaluate these numbers before you can negotiate. Obviously you want to keep this deal, but you're going to need to bring in revenue to scale.. so keeping in some type cost per seat is ideal. It is a good strategic investment opportunity and for a seed round, its definitely not bad.

angryasian··on “Should we buy YouTube for $15m?”
I love seeing insights like this in hindsight. I do remember google video. At the time I don't remember it being that much different in terms of features but as the saying goes "content is king".
angryasian··on OctoPrint
It does much more than this, though. Printing directly from cura, gcode viewer, bed levelling visualizer, notification when done and emergency stop.

These are the plugins I love so far. I guess it depends on which printer you have but these are all amazing for my uses.

angryasian··on We are building Twitter for video
seems like a tiktok clone, maybe need to understand why its better. best of luck.
angryasian··on NFT's will disrupt the entire sw engineering world
who's going to pay for code site unseen and trust it works the way it supposed or even integrate it ?

Digital art, videos, etc.. make sense. Its about exclusivity and uniquness. I can write fizzbuzz, thousands of different ways and differences are minimal. Once I get a glance at how you write fizz buzz, I can copy it with minimal changes. Exclusivity of code is not worth anything.

angryasian··on Show HN: Ad Network for Sideprojects
back in the day we called these webrings. Still relevant but now that most content is surfaced through recommendation algorithms, and people are more adverse to ads its tougher. Still great idea. Good luck
angryasian··on Webull no longer restricting GME, AMC, or KOSS
Webull and Fidelity were the only two I believe ?
angryasian··on I no longer trust The Great Suspender
there really needs to be a better bookmarking solution.
angryasian··on Dropbox to cut 11% of its global workforce
It does as Box seems to be doing fine. It was Dropbox failure at enterprise and trying to focus on consumer when other companies are offering similar features for free. Just bad strategy
angryasian··on The worst people imaginable are dining out, study finds
tipping is an archaic practice and should be outlawed. Even in california where servers receive minimum wage, we're still tipping to have someone bring me my food. I can't wait until robots take over.
angryasian··on Would you get a Covid vaccine in exchange for a $1,500 stimulus check?
I was coming to say the same. I'd easily pay to get a vaccine. Being able to go out and not have to worry is worth a lot to me right now.
angryasian··on Today I'm open sourcing the code that I've made $500K off of
what exactly does it do ?
angryasian··on TikTok tried to manipulate me – uninstalled
As an Android tik tok user, this sounds like bs. I've never seen or heard of any of these things from others.
