Cool....
andhapp··on Ask HN: I want to pay people, not just accept payment. What are my options?
hmmm if you can transfer money into your merchant account then transferring money into someone else's account should be straight forward but that's not the case. I would suggest pay-pal but transferring money into someone's bank account would actually take 3-5 working days from it so that sucks...but yes you are right pay pal is the only way...
andhapp··on What's the story behind the name of your startup/company ?
I normally pick the names of my projects randomly. But the names in some sense describe the essence of the project. If its an outstanding name it will definitely stick.
andhapp··on If your startup succeeds, do you use the resulting web traffic to promote your earlier failed startups?
I would like to argue this, as if a project fails does not mean that it was a bad idea. It could have failed because of bad timing, lack of experience and so on...if one thinks it is a good idea and has the passion for it, then no harm in giving it a shot...
andhapp··on The Great Debate: PostgreSQL vs. MySQL - with Jim Mlodgenski, 23 Jan
Well having spent a lot of hours recently trying to get postgres-pr adpater on rails to work with a legacy database I would go for MySQL.
andhapp··on Ask HN: What web database(s) do you guys use?
I have used both Postgres and Mysql and recently found out that Rails postgres adapter is broken for legacy databases. However, here's a good discussion on stack overflow: http://tinyurl.com/c29ftj
andhapp··on Ask HN: How can I get up early in the morning?
That was a joke...
andhapp··on Ask HN: How can I get up early in the morning?
Sleep on the couch...you will be uncomfortable and definately get up early.
andhapp··on Windows Live Messenger Now Lets You Add Chat To Your Website
I have been seeing it on the sites from ages...so not sure why techcrunch is announcing it now????
andhapp··on Ask HN: Web 2.0 and The Four Steps to the Epiphany
I was going to buy this book...but I read this review...http://eightpence.com/the-four-steps-to-the-epiphany-review/
andhapp··on Ask HN: Is it necessary to learn maths to enter into programming?
Learn C to start with...not ruby or python
andhapp··on Ask HN: Is it necessary to learn maths to enter into programming?
You do not have to learn maths unless you are going to start writing complex algorithms for encryption and other complex calculation may be like data mining and so on. At your age you should start by writing simple scripts and read books to understand the concepts. Pick one language and learn it. I am sure when you start learning let us say, Ruby or Python you will notice they hardly go over mathematical concepts.
andhapp··on HTML 5 Canvas game
Anyone who does a game in Javascript rocks...so does this one. Amazing...I didn't even know you could do this...
andhapp··on How do you make a case for Django [or Ruby on Rails] to non-technical clients.
Are they really up for finding out why Ruby on Rails(or Django) may be better in their case? Do they have the stomach to sit through a technical presentation highlighting why newer, faster way of doing things might be better for them?? I saw this video recently and let them have a look at it. What is it? Its the presentation explaning the reasons why YellowPages.com got rewritten in Rails. Here's the link: http://www.infoq.com/presentations/straw-yellowpages
andhapp··on Ask HN: What are the most popular browser homepages?
I have netvibes as my homepage
andhapp··on If you build something original, would pride normally prevent others from copying you?
I will just give a simple example: Apple released iPhone and it was a tremendous hit all over the world. All other phone companies tried to copy it...outcome...not as successful. Reason: because these companies do not have the vision, passion, dedication for the product. So even if someone takes your idea it does not mean they will be able to deliver it better.

Au Contraire: Google produced a better search engine to other present at the time of launch like Alta Vista and Lycos.

To summarise, if you have an original idea executed nicely customers would come to you.

andhapp··on Ask HN: What's your homepage?
My homepage is Netvibes.com straight to my feeds and hours of procastination...
andhapp··on Um, I have a question (about programmer productivity)
I would say when one writes less buggy code in a short time he is in the ZONE and that would depend on the problem domain, technology and programmer's passion towards it.
andhapp··on Ask HN: How profitable are most iphone apps?
Some of them are making a lot of money as is evident from that news article...

andhapp··on Ask HN: How do you find a colorscheme for your project?
Has anyone ever tried Adobe Kuler. It has a lot of themes put together by I guess designers. I admit some of them are awful but it gives one an opportunity to see how different colours complement each other...
andhapp··on Ask YC: Online editable database?
DAbbleDB - http://dabbledb.com/
andhapp··on Ask HN: Registration email confirmation, good or bad?
It should not be mandatory to click the like because I do not want to log on to my email and click the link to access the site. They should be allowed to browse the site as a guest and if should be reminded of the link every few days.

oldgregg is bang on target...and I would second his notion.

andhapp··on Ask HN: Is there room for another photo sharing service?
There is always room for better solutions. Think about Google...there were other search engines around when Google was launched but where are they now. If you can deliver a better solution always go for it.
andhapp··on Ask HN: Review my new startup: clickthatbutton.com
This is at the same level of madness as "I am rich" iPhone application except that application had a cost model to it unlike this one...
andhapp··on A family member wants to invest $25k into our startup, what do we do now?
My suggestion would be to politely decline the offer. Never do business in the family it always leads to issues in the end and spoils the relationships. When money gets involved things go haywire....so beaware. They might show a lot of confidence and say things like "I do not care even if the money is lost" but this is not what they have in mind. No offences but unfortunately money takes precedence over anything else.
andhapp··on Poll: Which programming language do you plan on learning next?
Groovy (or is it considered Java)
andhapp··on Short (5 mins) bit of market research for our startup please
not short....
andhapp··on Hardware Communities and blogs
Have you tried Googling...it gives a good list of blogs.
