amrb··on The LLama Effect: Leak Sparked a Series of Open Source Alternatives to ChatGPT
I mean it's a good power tool, cuts fast with little effort.

But what's it gonna do in the hands of your parents or kids.. when it gets thing wrong, its could have way worst impact if it's intergrated in government, health care, finance etc..

amrb··on A CERN for Open Source Large-Scale AI
Japan did have the VLSI project a group of there largest companies: https://youtu.be/bwhU9goCiaI?t=766

For Europe I could see a bigger group of companies, schools and researchers working towards open models with funding. This would allow EU companies to be competitive with the US while not duplicating effort, more eyes on the problem too. Maybe alignment work could be a goal, since the driver is not profit at any cost this time.

Devil's Advocate: The EU comes down hard on any AI company that doesn't work with researchers and institutions in future.
amrb··on A CERN for Open Source Large-Scale AI
So they would have to buy the hardware require to support this project where CERN requires research and creates scientific jobs in the EU.

I can see people may not like handing over a lot of money to Nvidia for 1000 cards, unless the hardware ML accelerators are shipping as an alternative.

OpenRA is another open engine!
amrb··on When do you need chain-of-thought prompting for ChatGPT?
I found to very difficult to set goals with gpt-turbo, maybe gpt4 will be a good test when I get access.

Also I'm thinking would be interesting to train a LoRa, using synthetic prompts.

amrb··on EY gets banned from new audit business in Germany
The big four prop up the business world, status quo.

Say your a large company listed on the stock market, so pick from the four big companies because serious companies use them, who's the CFO an ex-account from the big four who knows their orderand process.

Now if no other companies can enter that bubble, are we really surprised at the outcome!?

amrb··on Interview with Andrew Kelley (Zig Creator) (2021)
Loved hearing about the history SQLite! I do feel we should capture more of the tech story's, as its hard to learn from mistakes.. if you don't know the history.
amrb··on The newest version of ChatGPT passed the US medical licensing exam
It not a good test. We'd be better off with benchmarks, testing capability updated every year to measure performance, ability and alignment!

amrb··on Show HN: ChatGDB – GPT-Powered GDB Assistant
I don't have gpt4 tho we could test with a prompt like:

"Thinking step by step, what does this code do, is there a problem?"

amrb··on Show HN: ChatGDB – GPT-Powered GDB Assistant
My theory, it's like gambling, sometime's it a payout others it's bland, so it your waiting for the dopamine hit.

For the life of me I could never fix torch.load, they'll say just quantization (convert) a model to 4/8bit to make it smaller but you'll get crashes when out of system memory plus no docs.. then you admit defeat by using more swapfile :S
