Agreed. It's beyond nuts evaluation at this point.

amir734jj··on NASM Assembly Language Tutorials
What is the difference between NASM and MIPS?
amir734jj··on Show HN: Toy-lang, Toy programming language created in under 2 weeks
This is a programming language I created under 2 weeks. Please checkout the Wiki page for more details. It is basically a subset of Scala (in terms of syntax and semantic)

Open source: https://github.com/amir734jj/toy-lang

amir734jj··on Scala at scale at Databricks
In my previous company we used Scala + Spark and I hated it initially. I had no idea how syntax worked, no clue about functional programming or the ecosystem.

I got interested in the Scala as a language and decided to pursue PhD in computer science focusing on compilers. Long story short, I am finishing my PhD on Monday :)

Don't be negative about technology. Be positive.

amir734jj··on Kamala Is Right. Bluetooth Is a Risk
Why Bluetooth is a security risk? this article doesn't go into details.
amir734jj··on AWS us-east-1 outage
My job (although 50% of time) at Azure is unit testing/monitoring services under different scenarios and flows to detect small failures that will be overlooked in public status page. Our tests run multiple times daily and we have people constantly monitoring logs. It concerns me when I see all AWS services are 100% green when I know there is an outage.
amir734jj··on Ask HN: Microsoft Teams “Presenter View” PDF Presentation
Conversion to PowerPoint messed up my equations. But thank you for the suggestion :)
amir734jj··on U.S. says it will not send officials to Beijing Winter Olympics
I don't think it will have any sensible impact. I appreciate for taking steps.

What Covid showed is it's a small world. If a country is not transparent and messing with things they don't fully understand and may have global consequences then it's not acceptable.

I wish the world lives in peace and harmony instead of constantly trying to show who is the boss.

amir734jj··on C++ Compile Time Parser Generator
Try Antlr 4. It's more approachable.
amir734jj··on Show HN: Fourier Transform Visualized via WebGL
It's very awesome and provides educational value. Thanks for sharing.
amir734jj··on Ask HN: How would you have done high school/college/university differently?
Focus more on the core classes. Would try to understand the concepts more thoroughly not just to get good grade, but treating courses are things I will use daily at work and if I don't learn it now then I would have to spend more time in the future to learn them. For example, databases and networking.
amir734jj··on Compile Python applications into stand-alone executables
Agreed. Dotnetcore, rust, golang all have an out of the box option for shipping binaries. I really enjoy using python to get something done fast but I'm not a fan of the whole ecosystem.
amir734jj··on Davide Giri Died, Computer Science PhD Candidate Columbia University
Agreed. It's an incredibly sad situation. He published a lot of high citation papers.
amir734jj··on Hinge – not Facebook or Clubhouse – cracked getting audio to go viral
I used Hinge for the past month and I just deleted my account. Terrible experience with them. Not even a single mutual like and they cost so much. I work in FAANG so even with my relatively high salary I couldn't justify continuing to pay them monthly subscription.

For me, it's yet another failed dating app. I have used POF, Tinder and Bumble. It's like these dating apps just want money and keep people stuck in an infinite cycle of online dating.

amir734jj··on Volta vs. Nvm for JavaScript Tooling
I use N. It's a drop-in replacement for nvm.
amir734jj··on The Microsoft .NET platform has been forked: Introducing Open.NET
Learned something new. Thank you.
amir734jj··on The Microsoft .NET platform has been forked: Introducing Open.NET
Yes. Because dotnet is inherently JIT (e.g. linq expression tree and runtime code weaving and etc.) and you can't do that with llvm. So it was a dead end effort.
amir734jj··on The Microsoft .NET platform has been forked: Introducing Open.NET
To contribute to a repo (i.e. send a PR) you need to fork a repo. This is different.
amir734jj··on The Microsoft .NET platform has been forked: Introducing Open.NET
The same. I have been developing in C#/.NET Core for sometime and haven't used visual studio. I only use vim / vscode / Rider.

Even now that I work at Microsoft, I don't use Visual Studio. Its too resource intensive and I use vim to get the job done. Not sure why people use Visual Studio at all these days.

amir734jj··on The Microsoft .NET platform has been forked: Introducing Open.NET
You cited this[1] GitHub issue. In the comment section, I see this user[1] has been commenting many times saying negative things about Microsoft's open source commitment. Including this comment[3] saying:

> Maybe it is time to fork .NET and to get something like AdoptOpenJDK, etc…

However, this person hasn't done anything but forking other people's repos. Its kind of funny and sad.

amir734jj··on The Microsoft .NET platform has been forked: Introducing Open.NET
None. LLVM is a compiler toolchain. Basically it takes care of the back-end of your compiler. .NET is a framework (native libraries + CLR) usually associated with C# ecosystem.
amir734jj··on Types of Parser Combinators
I'm teaching a compilers next semester, taking it over from a professor who has been teaching it for many years. Students will be writing a compiler for Cool programming language. I'm trying to rewrite the parser homework from yacc to parser combinator. Not sure if it's a good idea. Maybe students need to do an assignment in yacc. At the same time I have used parser combinator in my career as a software engineer.
amir734jj··on Show HN: Morning Brief – Track any topic on HN, Reddit and others
I wish there was an option to log in with my account and scan my preference based on my likes.
amir734jj··on Welcome to C# 10
I do not like that "global using" as well. I wonder why they added it.
amir734jj··on Ask HN: Who's not sucky to work for?
Microsoft azure edge platform. There is so much work to do and you never get bored. Humble coworkers generally. Slow paced but you can work on many things in parallel to avoid waiting.

If you live in Wisconsin, I highly recommend northwestern mutual which is a life insurance/financial company.

amir734jj··on Show HN: AWS credentials management CLI tool
The code is very nicely done. I don't use AWS currently but I stared it on GitHub.

amir734jj··on Show HN: CookLang – Recipe Markup Language
What did you use for lexer and parser?? I couldn't find it on the GitHub front page/source code.
amir734jj··on Blue Origin: Toxic, dysfunctional ‘bro culture’, low morale and delays
I had a one hour phone interview one of their engineering managers a few years ago and I thought everything was going well but he said to my face that I'm not a suitable candidate for then. I don't know about their work culture.
