amazingamazing··on Go is an ideal language for AI-assisted software engineering
Since when did does typescript compile faster than go? I do agree typescript is a good alternative but it is very different.

Link to the uber report? Could not find it (unless it is this: https://www.uber.com/us/en/blog/data-race-patterns-in-go/)

Ignoring performance for the moment (because most situations are bottlenecked on something else), why is rust better?
amazingamazing··on More than 10 firms pay up to $100k a month for access to Truth Social posts
Even before this insiders had access to the prez. I am glad this presidency is making very apparent the inherent flaws with the US government.

If it is capable today why would a new model change this?
amazingamazing··on AMD acquires Taalas to boost inference performance by etching models in silicon
One idea would be to use an open model.
amazingamazing··on I am retiring from fulltime writing (& pseudonymity) to launch Guardian Angel
Suppose LLM solved all math problems. So what? It’s not like diplomacy and war will end. Are humanity’s problems really constrained on our intellectual ability? If anything most evidence points to cultural failing and all AI will do is enable unprecedented oppression due to said skills at intellectual tasks.

As you read this some poor person is starving. Humanity already possesses the ability to identify said person and send them aid. How is AI going to help here?

The ultimate fallacy is that all technological progress will benefit mankind. That will be true until it is not.

amazingamazing··on AI fuels more than half of cybercrime in Africa as scams surge – Interpol
It is only a matter of time until China can make everything needed for sub 8nm chips in their own country. Maybe 10 years away, but it is inevitable.
amazingamazing··on Waymo in Dallas
Nope. Fixed routes have chaos. You would have the same problem, converging on fsd. It’s the same reason Waymo isn’t deployed everywhere now. Not to mention buses are a couple orders of magnitude more expensive than a car and would be slower for any given median occupant compared to a car.

Ok. Luckily people who make the rules don’t have such ideas.

You believe volunteered information must stay on internet forever?
amazingamazing··on Californians' data deletion requests, DROP, become enforceable Aug. 1
Do you believe the same about search results not being able to be deleted? I also assume this means you disagree with gdpr?
amazingamazing··on Californians' data deletion requests, DROP, become enforceable Aug. 1
Why is there a time limit on deletion on this site?
amazingamazing··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
This isn’t impressive. 13% over 4 years? In any case this can’t be evaluated without knowing what was initially offered pre union and what they initially asked for.
amazingamazing··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
This comment is pretty representative of why tech unions are worthless. Form a union to stop growth, and you pay your hard earned salary into such an organization with these goals?
amazingamazing··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
There is no evidence of unions performing better for digital services at all. Unions do make sense when physical labor and danger is involved because the demands of leadership contradict realities of human physiology like getting tired, leading to injury or death.
amazingamazing··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
Go read why they want to unionize
amazingamazing··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
Good. Most tech unions are worthless and only accelerate outsourcing. Unions can be good though, like in construction where the work is inherently dangerous.
amazingamazing··on How Google helped destroy adoption of RSS feeds (2023)
Yup, and that’s why it would never be mainstream.
amazingamazing··on How Google helped destroy adoption of RSS feeds (2023)
RSS was never going to work anyway due to lack of monetization. If this is not true you would still see them today. See everyone posting archive paywall bypassing links on every opportunity here, lol. There is no incentive for a news site to support RSS.

We already know the solutions
amazingamazing··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
They are political problems, a computer could never solve them.
amazingamazing··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
Can’t wait for this stuff to have quality of life increases for the average person. So far all I see is that AI has made owning a computer more expensive, made some jobs redundant, increased spam and distrust with questionable authenticity of content and of course made some Americans very rich.
