amaks··on Google Announces Massive Price Drops for Cloud Computing Services, Storage
I don't see how Box could possibly compete on pricing with Google storage, considering the high volume of hardware purchases Google is doing and high volume discounts it's getting.
amaks··on Microsoft Says: Come Back with a Warrant, Unless You’re Microsoft
Completely agree. As a convicted monopolist Microsoft at the very least needs this kind of behavior, especially conducting search on its own without any law enforcement order.
amaks··on Hack: a new programming language for HHVM
Hack to PHP is as Dart to JavaScript.
amaks··on Ex Microsoft staffer arrested for allegedly stealing Win 8 trade secrets
Looks like this is the guy: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=64303478.
amaks··on Custom Colors of HN
Oh, they have #0b00b5
amaks··on Leslie Lamport awarded Turing Award
Well deserved. His work on Paxos flavors worth it alone.
amaks··on Flipboard is acquiring Zite from CNN
Hopefully they will fix this mess which is Zite on Android.
amaks··on Facebook In Talks To Acquire Drone Maker Titan Aerospace
Sorry for that, I found it in livejournal.com without any reference to the original author.
amaks··on Facebook In Talks To Acquire Drone Maker Titan Aerospace
Unless you view Nest as the source of data (which many believe it is)
amaks··on Facebook In Talks To Acquire Drone Maker Titan Aerospace
Google's (official) mission "is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful" (https://www.google.com/about/company/). Microsoft's is "to create a family of devices and services for individuals and businesses that empower people around the globe at home, at work and on the go, for the activities they value most." (http://www.microsoft.com/investor/reports/ar13/shareholder-l...).

How's Facebook different having a mission statement?

amaks··on Facebook In Talks To Acquire Drone Maker Titan Aerospace
"A machine learning researcher, a crypto-currency expert, and an Erlang programmer walk into a bar. Facebook buys the bar for $27 billion."
amaks··on Facebook In Talks To Acquire Drone Maker Titan Aerospace
It actually becomes obvious after realizing that all Facebook does is copying Google.

amaks··on Announcing the new Roslyn-powered .NET Framework Reference Source
Not in Phoenix, with Phoenix - Phoenix Compiler and Shared Source Common Language Infrastructure:

http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/collaboration/focus/cs/p...

This was supposed to be what clang/llvm has become.

amaks··on Announcing the new Roslyn-powered .NET Framework Reference Source
git repository would be better.
amaks··on Announcing the new Roslyn-powered .NET Framework Reference Source
Roslyn was announced several months after Mono has created their compiler as a service implementation. Having said that, clang/llvm was out there for some time already. So yes, the idea predates Mono for quite some time:-)
amaks··on Announcing the new Roslyn-powered .NET Framework Reference Source
It's hard to disagree with what you've said, especially after Phoenix fiasco. Also, it's quite a shame that opening bugs for open source software requires following through on Connect.
amaks··on Google's robots.txt
Bing is allowed. But it's obvious why.
amaks··on This Man's $600K Facebook Disaster Is a Warning For All Small Businesses
I'm pretty sure they do, but they are also torn by the apparent dilemma between generating more revenue through fake clicks and maintaining an appearance of the trusted ad platform. Hard to be them;-)

amaks··on Show HN: Google Music for Mac
What an awesome app! Few things I missed: 1. Chromecast support. 2. Navigation back/forward?
amaks··on How to Get a Job at Google
Of course I meant software engineers (SWE). There is no job title 'Programmer' at Google.
amaks··on How to Get a Job at Google
Here is a much better and quite popular (in engineering circles) post by Steve Yegge:

http://steve-yegge.blogspot.com/2008/03/get-that-job-at-goog...

This of course applies only to engineers.

amaks··on How to Get a Job at Google
Another obligatory NSA joke.
amaks··on Ford seen ditching Microsoft for Blackberry in future cars
Not crazy at all. We all had a fair share of problems with Microsoft software during all these years.
amaks··on WhatsApp is down
They must be upgrading their servers to show ads and forward messages to facebook servers.
amaks··on Leaving Google
Besides, Seattle weather and landscape are a lot like Vancouver (and lot less expensive).
amaks··on Should I Learn Python or Ruby?
Neither. Learn Go.
amaks··on Google Cloud SQL now available with an SLA, 500 GB databases, and encryption
Pricing is important, but SQL Azure to the best of my knowledge is limited to 150G and doesn't have data encryption. Encryption is very important for customers especially in multi-tenant environments such as SQL Azure.
amaks··on What the Heck is Happening to Windows?
I think Windows 9 (or whatever it's going to be called) will be a complete pull back into the classic desktop. By the time it ships there will be Modern UI only OS hybrid built with Office for the Modern UI finally caught up. They can all have the same underlying base OS (whatever it's going to be called) with different shells on top. But, I'm not sure how programming model is going to look like, unless they allow classic desktop Windows to run apps built for Modern UI in windowed mode (which seems to be the direction they are heading towards).
