Then don't use them. They are always optional, and in fact usually require opt-in via editor settings.
amake··on Wonders of Street View
Neat.

This one[0], "Pink Moss", is not moss. 芝桜 is Phlox subulata[1], which has common names including the word "moss", but it is not moss.

Yes, the very one linked from the article itself.
amake··on Tabs and Makefile (2015)
I don't think I've ever been bitten by confusion over tabs vs other whitespace in a Makefile—Emacs out of the box is a great Makefile IDE. But I can understand the frustration if you only have access to lesser tools.

I should add that learning make well has been a great boon for my career. It's an incredibly powerful and elegant tool, assuming your project can inhabit the subset of projects that will never, ever have paths containing spaces.

amake··on Voice assistants are not doing it for big tech
I do "Hey Siri set a timer for Foo for 5 minutes" I get a timer named Foo, and I can then set concurrent timers named Bar, Baz, etc. without replacement.
amake··on Ask HN: What piece of code/codebase blew your mind when you saw it?
I'm partial to this snippet from SICP (4.2.3 Streams as Lazy Lists):

    (define (cons x y) (lambda (m) (m x y)))
    (define (car z) (z (lambda (p q) p)))
    (define (cdr z) (z (lambda (p q) q)))
This implements cons-style linked lists in terms of only functions. In other words lists need not be the fundamental construct of a Lisp/Scheme—you can use functions instead.
amake··on Eglot has landed on master: Emacs now has a built-in LSP client

amake··on $ rm Important.txt (uh oh)
`system-move-file-to-trash` is predefined and all of this just works as expected if you use the Emacs GUI on Mac.

amake··on AutoRegex
The closest thing I know of to this is https://github.com/devongovett/regexgen (or my Ruby port https://github.com/amake/regexgen-ruby).

    % bundle exec bin/regexgen '14:51 [info] 51 some message' '15:22 [error] 24 error!'
    (?-mix:1(?:4:51\ \[info\]\ 51\ some\ message|5:22\ \[error\]\ 24\ error!))
With enough inputs it should end up with something somewhat reasonable for the leading part, but it will never be smart enough to understand that the error message is "arbitrary" and should be matched with e.g. `(.+)`.

The master branch (Emacs 29) has this in `pixel-scroll-precision-mode` and it seems to perform better than the emacs-mac implementation.

amake··on Show HN: A plain-text file format for todos and check lists
(Author of Orgro here)

Orgro displays the file as "rich" text, so it is not a "hard-coded" UI; it's much closer to viewing the file as you would in Emacs.

That said, it is definitely lacking compared to Emacs: it's a viewer only and mostly doesn't interpret the file contents; you can't execute code blocks, etc.

You can get even more Emacs bindings by providing an appropriate ~/Library/KeyBindings/DefaultKeyBinding.dict; example:

Please stop it with the diatribes about ligatures.

If you don't like them, don't use them. It's that simple.

Other people do like them, and will continue to use and enjoy them.

False. Binaries, built from source, are used by default.

amake··on Magit, the magical Git interface (2017)
It does not. As I said, pressing s does not stage less than a line for me, even if my region is a subset of the line.
amake··on Magit, the magical Git interface (2017)
When I press s, the entire line is staged even if my region is a subset of that line.
amake··on Magit, the magical Git interface (2017)
> Magit has great support for staging parts of lines

This is news to me.

> select the section you want to stage and press 's'.

It stages line-wise for me. How do I get it to stage less than an entire line?

amake··on Japan's government plans to encourage 4-day workweek, but experts split
> Basically all employees (yes, including engineers) need to clock in and out, the concept of a "salaried worker" doesn't really exist

裁量労働制 certainly meets the spirit of "salaried worker" if not the letter ("need" to clock in for at least 1 minute to be counted as working for the day).
