amaccuish··on IPv6 just turned 30 and still hasn't taken over the world
But Mobile IP could do it https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc6275
amaccuish··on Unifi Travel Router
They're the last large one that does not charge.
amaccuish··on Unifi Travel Router
I think it's the other way around? Most UK networks seem to charge charge now (the big ones anyway, EE, Vodafone etc.).

At least in Germany, none of our networks do.

amaccuish··on Show HN: WalletWallet – create Apple passes from anything
As an aside, I find it really sad that, having a de-Googled Anroid phone, it's actually easier for me to download the Apple Wallet .pkpass files

Anything to do with Google Wallet passes just forwards me to a Google login page.

amaccuish··on Imgur geo-blocked the UK, so I geo-unblocked my network
Wow thanks for this, was using the above linked addon myself until I read your comment.
amaccuish··on The EU made Apple adopt new Wi-Fi standards, and now Android can support AirDrop
Next up please do streaming. Chromecast seems so locked down so take AirPlay and make it a standard.

Then instead of just opening up NFC, make Google and Apple Wallet support plugins, so users can have one interface with all their cards but not tied to one payment system.

amaccuish··on Thunderbird adds native Microsoft Exchange email support
As you imply though, it remains for on-premise. They're working on msgraph as well luckily.
amaccuish··on Cloudflare Global Network experiencing issues
Could it not be argued that ISPs should be forced to block users with vulnerable devices?

They have all the data on what CPE a user has, can send a letter and email with a deadline, and cut them off after it expires and the router has not been updated/is still exposed to the wide internet.

amaccuish··on Germany to ban Huawei from future 6G network
I get why you do so, but the European Union is always shortened to EU, not UE.

It would be as if I wrote a sentence, "The EWG was created by the treaty of Rome in 1957".

What is EWG? Oh yes its the German abbreviation for the EEC. But we're writing in English?

amaccuish··on Kratos - Cloud native Auth0 open-source alternative (self-hosted)
Thought so too, though I also recall seeing WorkOS urls when configuring SCIM.
amaccuish··on Vodafone Germany is changing the open internet, one peering connection at a time
Can't complain so far, reddit loads in the evenings again.
amaccuish··on Apple's "notarisation" – blocking software freedom of developers and users
Last time I checked it's still US/Canada only. Luckily I only needed code-signing for an internal app, so we just used our own PKI and pushed the certs over MDM.
amaccuish··on Vodafone Germany is changing the open internet, one peering connection at a time
Can confirm, recently moved to o2, it was insufferable.

For anyone wondering: netzbremse.de/

amaccuish··on Vodafone Germany is changing the open internet, one peering connection at a time
That's not relevant. Over a Deutsche Telekom phone line you can choose an ISP. The ISP sometimes has a layer two connection to you and therefore has their own infrastructure or they have a layer 3 connection in which case you suffer from the Telekom policies.

Layer 2 = their infrastructure connects you to the internet

Layer 3 = theyre literally just a reseller, DTAG is providing your internet connection, the ISP just billing etc.

amaccuish··on SQLite concurrency and why you should care about it
Their whole recent rewrite of the DB code (to Entity Framework) is to allow the user choice of DB in future.
amaccuish··on Tell HN: Azure outage
Seeing users having issues with the "Modern Outlook", specifically empty accounts. Switching back to the "Legacy Outlook" which functions largely without the help of the cloud fixes the issue. How ironic.
amaccuish··on How the brain's activity, energy use and blood flow change as people fall asleep
Ahh then yes that's a super valid point. I've seen shops sell 10mg per tablet. 0.5mg already does the trick for me.
amaccuish··on How the brain's activity, energy use and blood flow change as people fall asleep
The linked article doesn't mention tolerance at all? I don't believe there is any evidence out there to suggest that melatonin tolerance is a thing.
amaccuish··on How the brain's activity, energy use and blood flow change as people fall asleep
I don't believe there is any evidence that you develop a tolerance. As a side note, Melatonin changed my life.
amaccuish··on Avoid 2:00 and 3:00 am cron jobs (2013)
I believe it was an anecdote and not a recommendation.
amaccuish··on NFS at 40 – Remembering the Sun Microsystems Network File System
Have a look at https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/vfs_fruit....
amaccuish··on Liquibase continues to advertise itself as "open source" despite license switch
What's up with the comments here?

Either just reading the "base" part and plugging some unrelated service, or claiming source available is the same as open source

amaccuish··on RedoxFS is the default filesystem of Redox OS, inspired by ZFS
And said file systems are in C; I believe the whole point of RedoxOS is rust everywhere.

If you're going to have to write it from scratch (since rust), might as well make your own.

amaccuish··on Britain to introduce compulsory digital ID for workers
Reductio ad absurdum.
amaccuish··on Systemd can be a cause of restrictions on daemons

amaccuish··on Making Your Own Merchant Service Provider

amaccuish··on Making Your Own Merchant Service Provider

Luckily my German bank (Volksbank) has its own NFC app on Android. Much maligned years ago when it was announced (why can't they just let me use Google Pay??), I at least have come to the conclusion that it has granted me a freedom that Google does not.

> In most other countries, the worst you can do is deposit money.

So in the EU, anyone can indeed pull money with your account number (and with RTP that may change someday). But we can also revoke any such direct debit within a certain period of time.

I had to do it once, over my banking app, money was back the moment after I clicked.
